I've got a spaceship MOC that uses the opaque version as engine access hatches. I spent quite some time trying to figure out a hinge solution I liked before realizing, "Duh, just have it pivot open on the studs!"

I just used these for water storage tanks under my Moonbase swimming pool...and quickly learned how unstable these things are as support structure, especially when topped with 8x8 radar dishes. I had to build supports in their cores so the dishes could rest on something besides these panels.

It’s worth noting that all subsequent cylindrical panels of this type have been half-round, and generally with more horizontal surface at top and bottom, and a much higher ratio of studs to both diameter and height.

Appreciate their use as shop windows.

love these but also hate em a little because of how much money i just spent on them lol. had to buy 168 of them for a building project and the cheapest i could find them on bricklink was 50 cents each (which isn't TERRIBLE given lego prices but... 80 dollars for one part of a project is kind of wacky)

Is there any other piece which looks more invisible than this one?

Got 'a few' of these in 'Red Brown'...working on a 'tree'...it's starting to resemble something like a baby-redwood:)

That’s pretty neat. Now you just gotta wait 200 years, and then you can have a full-grown redwood! (I kid, i kid...)

Whoops, my bad; my part's actually is 6301356 which along w/6276850 is producing a pretty cool base for a 5x5 tree trunk...

" @tris :
Just be glad you didn’t need them all in black!

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?P=30562&colorID=11

Presently, there are only 46 total available, all Used. Cheapest is $24.90, and highest is $181.01. And just to add insult to injury, you’d need to place 39 orders to clean them out."

Well, since the black ones only appeared in 10018-1 "Darth Maul" (four of them) and "6776-1" Alpha Team's "Ogel Control Center" (1) it's understandable that they are costly. But 181 $ for one LEGO piece is ludicrous!

Brickset was down for over half a day, spanning the time new RPotD/RSotD get posted, so looks like this gets an extra day.

And down again, missing the designated post time by less than half an hour, so three days of the same part.

My first introduction to this part (or rather, the solid-colour version) was in 7106 Droid Escape, where four of them make up basically the entire main body of the escape pod from A New Hope. As stated above, they aren't very stable, and I quickly found that the pod would fall apart under just a little bit of play if I wasn't careful.

Fortunately, I really only got the set for the Threepio minifigure, and on discount at that, so the flimsy construction didn't make the set completely worthless for me. Plus, there was something satisfying about the pod breaking apart upon crash-landing it, even if that didn't happen in the movie!
