So few 16m or 16l pieces available in the inventory. I like it when building something and a 16 spans a whole 14-wide gap. Or in this case, gains height in a build quickly. Marvellous.
But it's only use is not as a crane arm, but instead a decorative bit. I'm confused.

It's a new part number. Been used since 2007 in this style under number 59807, and since 1991 with a single hole at the low end as part number 2636. Bricklink has them correct, Brickset doesn't go back to the 1990's due to where they pull it from. (the official Lego cataloging system)
That doesn’t look like a tooth. Baleen, maybe.
The original variant of this part originated in the 1991 Nautica (6541) line as 2636 and was usually paired with 2637 and 2638 to make harbor cranes.
The newer version from 2007 (59807) has 2 pin holes at the end, whilst the original one had only one. There was another more subtle redesign in 2015 with design no. 28174.
But cranes don’t have arms they have wings! :D
The decorative bit refers to the last appearance attached to a floor support in 70620 NINJAGO City.
It was also cleverly used to support the blade in dozer 7685. Unsure what Lego are using now for crane arms?
