Happy Star Wars Day, Brickset and AFOLs. :)
There's no way I'm paying MSRP for the dioramas and there are no other Star Wars sets (in stock) that I want. Guess I'm missing out on the promos this year.

Same here. The dioramas are already discounted on the German Amazon. Much as I would like an Aunt Beru dio, there is zero incentive to buy the sets I want, for full price, from Lego.
It’s May 25th already?
The ‘exclusive limited edition’ print runs of the Landspeeder are still currently looking like a mess on UK Shop @ Home, but at least there’s a notice in the VIP Rewards area now saying that they’re ‘coming soon’. They had the nerve to put another mention of the posters into today’s email newsletter again when they’re still not available, which I giggled slightly at when I saw it!
30495 AT-AT GWP went out of stock last evening [UK] (or at least stopped showing up in baskets)
Debating whether its worth 160 dollars for the Lars Family Homestead. Not sure I'll get it.
Already made my purchases the other day but throwing a UCS Landspeeder in the basket this morning only gives a Beskar keychain.
Looks like Aunt Beru and the AT-ST are gone
Aunt Beru gone…. Well that sucks
Would you like some salt with your May the 4th?
Why thank you!

There's nothing for me here now.
So a lot of the promos are already 'sold' out in various markets? LEGO proves again that it frickin' LOVES artificial scarcity, and thus scalpers.
@sjr60: wasn't Thatcher day on the 8th of April? Ding dong...
Already got a Landspeeder and all 3 GWPs on the way but just went to place a second order for the 3 new helmets because they are on double VIP points but the only GWP now showing is the Beskar keyring, terrible planning by Lego to run out of stock on May 4th, not sure I'll bother now because can get the helmets discounted elsewhere anyway...
Happy Star Wars Day to everyone!
Yikes! Just tried to add the Landspeeder in a cart on Lego... The only GWP still available in the U.S. is beskar. :(
Placed my order first thing when I woke up on May 1st. But as usual shipment is nowhere in sight. Also ordered at Fun.be today and that set is already on its way.
Hasn`t this offer been live since the 1st? Is it reasonable to expect these promotions to last many days? This is nothing new not just for Lego but other products.... You have to get in early if you really want something. May be I am missing something? ;-)
This is why I went physically to the LEGO store when I saw that the promos started before May 4th. It was cool. The staff were dressed up, including a guy whose wife made him a Gonk outfit.

I'd guess about 50/50!

Yes it has been up since the first, but a few people might have missed it.
And for the really popular stuff to last more than a day is really something. That's the reason these things exist. That's why they're limited. To dive extra business.
It seems some fans have the homestead for sale already on eBay. That’s nice.
What about the promos in stores? The promos there are separate from Lego.com's, right?
Buying from Slovenia from Lego the Lars Family Homestead is still available...
Once again lego fails to have enough supply to meet demand. No surprise :/
I'm surprised the GWPs lasted this long. I expected the Kitchen to sell out within a couple of days. There is no reason for anyone not to be a VIP as it is free so I fail to see why anyone who wanted the GWPs missed out.
Why not join the VIP program if you want the promos? They have been on sale for three days already. It's free, even if the program is not the best - with the Rewards being mostly non-Lego tat, only one code per order, ... etc - you can still get early access.
Can't see the complaints about lack of supply for the demand in this case.
for me..... promo stock lasting more than 24 hours plus they increased limits on newest UCS set from 2 to 5 sets during the event.... all speaks to perhaps lower than usual demand or they had more than usual to start with or a combination of both.
Is STAR WARS DAY anything like FESTIVUS? Because I'm expecting to see a lot of airing of grievances in this thread...
@Shropshire:
Ordering the purpletroopers is enough to qualify for the AT-ST and free shipping in the US, so it wouldn’t shock me if people placed single-set orders to qualify for as many of the polybags as they could manage.
@bananaworld:
The promo’s been running three days without reports of shortages. If anyone waited until the final day and expected to snag everything, they’re not going to get a lot of sympathy. Especially not if they’ve ever complained about the rising threshold for GWPs, since that’s largely why they lasted as long as they did.
@jsutton:
Well, I mean, you could walk in and get a copy in-store three days ago, and again two days ago, and again one day ago…
@ItisNoe:
The promos in-store are the same as the promos online, except for two things. Store inventory is unique to each store, as online inventory is unique to each region, so promos will run out at different times across all sites. And stores (at least in the US) have a Friends flower & butterfly polybag with $40 purchase of any theme as a Mother’s Day promo, which stacks with the May 4th GWPs.
Which ones are double VIP again? I can't find the list
The complaints about running out of promo items are head-scratching... the deals have been live since Sunday and every VIP member who was interested in the promos, should have been aware of them. My local brand store had a line of 50 people when they opened on Sunday.
Sucks to be on the US west coast. It’s currently 7:10am and stock is gone already?!
@legoguy:
Only the beskar keychain required VIP membership. The two sets were available to anyone who spent enough.
@WemWem:
Every day is like Festivus. Maybe we need a rule that you can’t air a grievance without posting proof that you’ve first completed a feat if strength.
@WesterBricks:
About 200 when I got there a few minutes before the store opened, and about 200 still in line when I left a couple hours later.
@jaredhinton:
Yup, sucks to be able to place your May 4th order at 9pm on April 30th, when the east coast has to wait until midnight.
I am still missing: Republic Figther Tank, Death Trooper Hallway, Mandalorian Naboo N-1 and Fett Throne.
Now on US Lego.com only the Beskar keychain is available. May the 4th is over!
I'm still sad the 2x VIP points are so limited. I finally decided to purchase the ISD but I was hoping to wait for a double VIP points event to make it worthwhile. Does anyone know how frequent those are?
Lars Homestead lasted for just about as long as the Lars family themselves.

Better still, stagger them and let them stack, then people can gamble whether the low threshold ones are still available when the big ones kick in."
Don't give them any ideas. It's already bad enough that they severely limited the sets qualifying for 2x VIP points.
To me, it seems like these GWP for this special Star Wars day are...well, lame. Compared to years past items that were worth it.
I guess I'll be the odd one out here as I think it's really bad form for LEGO to celebrate May 4th multiple days early and then to run out of stock and freebies before the actual May 4th.

The fact that they were starting it on the first was not a secret...

Burn.... (literally)
Well at least the stock running out instantly removes all temptation to place an order...

Don't give them any ideas! Last thing any of us needs to do is make multiple purchases over multiple days !
@winbrant:
That’s one thing I always hated about Bricktober. TRU would make the first week easy to qualify for, and at least one of the other weeks you’d have to jump through flaming hoops while blindfolded.

Not to us LEGO zealots but I doubt regular folks were aware. And with all the hub drub about the date today, I reckon a fair number of normal people looked into LEGO purchasing today.
May the Fourth be with you all, always!
I'm happy with my new Defence of Hoth and Brickheadz Ahsoka...

I know, not even a special polybag dedicated to May 4th.
I think they shouldn't just give out exclusive things to people who can spend a lot of money.
Take me for an example, I'm a high school student who currently does not have a source of income other than pocket money and some chore money.
With all that, I could possibly qualify for the lowest threshold for this year, but I wouldn't be getting anything really exclusive that I couldn't get elsewhere.
I think LEGO really should try harder to cater to younger audience with less money to spend

Those are Dark Troopers you mean, Death Troopers are actual conscripted soldiers from Rogue One and stuff
@yellowcastle:
Looking back at their email notifications, it is a bit problematic. On Saturday, they sent out a message letting people know VIPs could buy the Landspeeder on the 1st, with general release set for the 4th. Buried deep in the email is a mention of the May 4th promo period running May 1-4. I don’t know if this was sent out to everyone, or just VIPs.
Sunday and Monday got nothing. Tuesday got one hyping the May 4th promo, asking if you were ready for the big day _tomorrow_. Small text notes that GWPs are available May 1-8 (this is the first I’ve heard that it runs past the 4th). And then this afternoon they sent out an “It’s today!” notice as the dust was settling. AFOLs who frequent AFOL sites, or who remember from years past that the dates change from year to year, knew in advance because they sought out the info or read an article by someone else who did. Joe Public was misled by poorly timed emails that pushed the actual day as the day to do your shopping.
Anyone in the US who missed out on the 30495 AT-ST polybag can order a couple from Walmart for $4.97 each.

Or ordering two purpletroopers for a polybag and a Beskar keychain. Or four purpletroopers and a keychain (or any other SW item) for a polybag and Beskar keychain and an Aunt Beru diorama. Maybe someone wants several polybags but it seems silly to me to make individual purchases for those instead of a combined purchase for the rarer, higher value items.

Even if I didn't make regular visits to Brickset, the LEGO website started promoting May the 4th on April 21 and I've received four emails from LEGO about the Star Wars offerings new for May. References to the Homestead and the polybag are no longer on the LEGO website, so "normal people [looking] into LEGO purchasing today" will only see the double VIP offer and the VIP Beskar keychain offer so they won't be aware there were other offers prior to today.
LEGO started doing May the 4th promotions before May 4 a few years ago as the early days coincided with a weekend.

@FuddRuckus:
Supposedly there’s an enforced limit on some GWPs. I was not able to get official confirmation, but the Customer Service agent I spoke with yesterday agreed that the keychain and kitchen set are likely limited to one per household, with any attempt to earn extra copies either having just the GWP revoked, or in cases where people have been found to be abusing the GWP system, the entire order could be revoked. Lesser GWPs don’t have strict limits, and the fact that you could buy the AT-ST by the armload suggests it might be one you can earn in bulk. So, one UCS Landspeeder is all it takes to earn the triple GWP, and after that you don’t need to go over $39.99 if you want extra polybags. Since the tank is an obvious army-builder set, buying one copy at a time until you’ve maxed out your limit would be an efficient way to do this. It doesn’t matter now, though, since the keychain’s all that’s left, and the tank is out of stock for a while.
Regarding your list of dates, 2018 should either be 4-7 or Friday through Sunday. You’ve got a range of three dates vs four days. They do get really messy, don’t they? I believe a few years they even tied in Revenge of the Sixth, but apparently not this year.

"Normal people" who waited until today to go to LEGO.com to find out about GWPs, etc. have only themselves to blame if they missed out.
Agree to disagree. :o)

Thinking of just buying it aftermarket for like $50 or $60 hopefully.

Now I think of it. Lego may not have canceled my ENTIRE order in Jan because of ordering multiple GWPs. They just canceled the GWP. I think that is potentially even more disingenuous, however. If a person places an order- primarily motivated by GWP- then cancelling only the GWP from the order is like ripping out the rug. It's classic 'bait and switch' (and could give rise to liability in states like mine with strict consumer protection laws). I believe that I was the one whom then canceled the remainder of the order. From a liability standpoint, Lego would be better off canceling the entire order rather than just the GWP.
What happened during this May 4th had nothing to do with the earlier issue. I had made many subsequent purchases for GWPs and double points between Jan and now. The order cancellation for May 4th was "unexplained." Ostensibly, the Lego email stated the reason was account privacy and identity validation. However, the Lego call rep said that wasn't the case.
My complaints about the pandemic degradation of Lego online Customer Service does not merely rest of those 2 occurrences, BTW. There's the Bricklink Designer Program fiasco (still haven't received any of 7 orders, including one mystery delivery that never arrived) among several other problems of different aspects with Lego CS.
@StyleCounselor:
Consumer protection laws are easily overcome with a simple disclaimer. “Limit 1 per household” is all it takes. As for how to handle it at that point, as long as you can still cancel, or return the order, that’s a safer option, as cancelation may result in someone missing out on a set they actually do want. Imagine the furor if someone had an order for 3x Nebulon B or Bespin Duel cancelled because they revoked a GWP.
Regarding Bricklink Designer, my only purchases were cancelled because the set got cancelled, so I don’t know if the sets are shipping direct from TLG, or if Bricklink is involved in the process after collecting orders.

No. That's simply not true. You seem very assured of things which you certainly have no expertise. I can tell you from first-hand experience as a trial attorney who's practiced nationwide for a long, long time in this area (among many others). That's not enough to get a dismissal or summary judgment. The facts of my case would get to a jury. Boilerplate language buried in website terms won't save you. It's a real bad idea to take an order and then change the order to keep the payment the same but lower the benefit. It's also common sense.
Of course, no one is likely to sue over a GWP. Then again, Lego does have the reputation of hiring stupid attorneys (see the facts behind Lego's misappropriation of the leather jacket torso in the Queer Eye set). You never know. ;)
Lego handles all aspects of the BL-DP orders... including refunds... unfortunately. :(
Email received from Lego, 5 May 03:59 -
"Star Wars Day is here!"
Bit late to the party chaps!
my first order got cancelled due me ordering 2 brickheadz Ahsoka sets. re-placed the order (sets changed to still hit the $160 threshold, but only one Ahsoka) and it went through okay.
then placed a second order a few days later, tossed another Ahsoka in (so ordered one 5/1, then another 5/4). second order cancelled for "exceeding quantity limits." re-placed without the Ahsoka, no problems.
only reason i did a second order is to get another keychain. keep one, use one. odd that a brickheadz has such strict limits
