This part has been used for darn near everything, and I use them for everything. I used them for hydraulic rescue tools--even though I found a cutter from another brand's stuff, I still have a spreader I built using them on one of my trucks.
I wish LEGO would tool up a set of hydraulic rescue tools--even if it's for a safety unit in Speed Champions. I bought a MEGA set years ago for just its set of tools, which included a hydraulic cutter. Replicating modern electric battery-operated tools like Hurst E-Draulic and Holmatro Penthenon would elimate the need do have a power unit, while still being realistic.
I miss the ones without the hole in the side. But these are great robo hands.
I still sometimes think of this piece as the "Doc Ock claw," since that's where I first encountered them.

Me too.
I'm fairly certain the member-owned count is low. I am pretty sure I have 101,213 all on my own!
I always associated this with EXO Force Drones and BIONICLE Minifigs. It's a great robot hand and a very versatile part
I ordered 50 of these in white, to make a pair of cellular towers. I’m not sure I ordered enough.
@cody6268:
I’ve used them for slingshots, before they made actual slingshots. I made Birdarang from Teen Titans Go! with one clipped on a hot dog. I’ve got a few Batmen with grapple guns that use these clipped on a batarang.
@TheOtherMike:
The original version was created for the robot opponents from Exo-Force. I know the torsos and legs were retired, and the arms and claws have both been revised, which might mean all four molds were scrapped, and the revisions only happened because they had to cut new molds to put them back in production.
@mmmmccccc:
There are two versions. The first one had more of a flare to the widest part. This one has the corners shaved down.
Stick and holder? It’s a robot hand and you know it, Lego!
I really hate how this got changed to some awful soft plastic a few years back. They just have no clutch now. Unfortunately a lot of colours (most importantly, white) are only available in the new soft version, too.
Looks like flat silver on that image, a colour it's yet to be made in unfortunately. Please do Lego! I'd really like it in reddish brown too.
To some, it's "doc ock hand"
To me, it's "assassin droid neck"
@PurpleDave: As I said, I first encountered it with Doc Ock, since the only Exo-Force set I have was from towards the end of the line.

Looks like Brickset has three different versions of this part listed. This particular one appears to have only run from 2010 - 2012, hence the low ownership count; https://brickset.com/parts/design-41005 and https://brickset.com/parts/design-48729 are likely to be the versions with much higher numbers in that regard.
This version, in fact, seems to have been exclusively used for a handful of early collectable minifigures and then nothing else.
