When I decided to get into pneumatics a few years ago, I got a used 8040 from the forum here for something like $20. Yes, a set 22 years older than me. Was a really fun build (not to mention challenging with 1984 instructions), and I'm still messing with various stuff just using that kit. Planning on getting some newer bits with a tank.

What we have today has resulted in a lot more variety, and cylinders that are in plenty of sizes to afford much more versatility.

Still, I recommend 8040 as a 25 year old AFOL if you're wanting to get into pneumatics cheaply.

@Reinier: Presumably, @cody6268 hasn't had his birthday yet, so is still twenty-five. There's still more than half a year to go.

But he stated that 8040 is 22 years older than he is. But that set was introduced in 1984. Which makes him 15 or 16 and not 25 or 26.

It really doesn't matter of course :)

@Reinier:
Ah, but it could, if Brickset TOS required a higher minimum age to start an account. I can’t actually find any TOS, though, so…
