Not to be confused with Colenel Cardan Ball!

What type of connection would these typically be used for?

With the matching cup, anywhere that you want to transmit rotation of a shaft through a small angle (e.g. a propshaft on a car)

Finally, Lego gives us Lt Cardan Ball - one of the lesser known Star Wars characters!

“Your name plate says you’re Lt Cardan Ball? Lieutenant Cardan Bal!”

“That’s right, I’m Lieutenant Lt Cardan Ball.”

A much stronger alternative to the universal joint 61903, where most of my original collection have split at the connector. The ball and socket allows more 360 movement, avoiding the stresses when used to transmit power to wheels which have suspension while going over rough ground.

Awful joint, mine snapped in the big Technic lambo during construction

Would be interesting to see examples of some of these parts in use. Whether in sets or MOCs as NPU.

The obvious alternate use would be as artillery shells.

Who is Lt Cardan, and why did he not invite me to his Ball? I love a good gala.

That stain's been festering since the set was released!

Looks like the 'beginnings' of a laser weapon ala "Goldfinger":
Clutch: "Do expect me to talk?"
Lord Business: "No Mister Powers; I expect you be 'parted out'!"...:D
