Heyyyyyy waitaminute…big bro!
Pump it up until you can feel it.
Pump it up when you don't really need it.
Very fitting after the reveal of set 42144. Now we have them in dark blueish grey - yay!
The mechanism to open/close the claw seems to be inordinately complex for no good reason - and I love it!
@HOBBES:
Eh, back in the LUGNET days, there was a guy who made multi-legged walking machines with synchronized pneumatics. I think every leg used eight pneumatic cylinders to keep the timing for the entire thing in tune.

I remember that - extremely impressive. Lego also made a really advanced pneumatic walker back then (4 legs)- unfortunately I have never seen plans and/or details of that model - the sole picture available was not enough to infer much about how it was made but I remember they had devised a very creative way for a joint allowing half circular movement (front and back) as well as up and down. I remember badly wanting to see those plans - I bought every single Mindstorm set for that - never seen it.
There was a guy specializing on pneumatics and had a very good page/site back then.
I can only think of Gary Istok for now , but Gary was/is into Lego history (I know him most for his fascination with Lego windows).
As far as Lego pneumatic goes, this is probably the most complex I have seen:

This is not bad either:

Well, there you go. You’ve already found Kevin Clague’s Brickshelf account. Unfortunately, he seems to have let his personal website expire, but you might have some luck trying to contact him directly:
https://news.lugnet.com/technic/?n=16963
This has the e-mail address he was using as of 2015, as well as someone else’s suggestion on how you might be able to track down the lost website. 20 years ago, Kevin was the only person I knew of who was seriously developing pneumatic systems that rivaled what you could do with electric motors.
Yet another part I’ve never seen because I don’t have an interest in Technic sets.
I remember I got this in the first set that had them: the Mercedes Arocs Truck 42043
