Those long legs are messing me up. Curious what else they will do with them now that we have them. Maybe a new basketball line? :P

By in United States,

I feel as if I've seen this before, maybe it was in a dream.

By in United States,

...That looks like $30 of terrain (admittedly very nice) with a $40 creature like what you'd find in Ninjago. Apparently I'm a full $80 off what Lego think this is worth though.

Woody legs are horrifying. Looks like they're all walking with casts on.

By in United States,

I'm pumped for these Avatar sets. I love the new colors and creatures! The return of longer minifigure limbs is long overdue and I'm glad to see them here, but the faces on these figures just don't look right. Maybe it's because they have ears and noses, but their faces just look so weirdly flat and un-LEGO like. Maybe fully molded heads would have worked better here, or less complex printing.

They first appeared in 2010.

When I heard this was going to be a theme, I thought Minidolls was the way to go. Yes. Yes it was. Minifigures just look odd.

Set looks fantastic though. Love the build & is exactly what I was hoping for.

They've been around since at least 2010. They were used for Woody in some Toy Story sets. I don't think they've been used much since then though, but I could be wrong.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

The tree looks great.
But that's pretty much it as far as I'm concerned. And I'm sorry but the minifigures looks horrible. The long legs and arms STILL look like something out of a knock-off brand.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

The combination of ears, noses and longer legs on the minifigures really makes them appear like another brand or even just knock-off Lego. They're a bit odd to me but I do like the different plant colours.

Gravatar
By in United States,

$150? Absolutely no shot.

Gravatar

150 what now?

I’ve always felt TLC missed an opportunity to use the longer legs and arms on a Groot minifigure. They would have been perfect. So much so that one of the knock-off brands did it for the first GotG movie.

By in United States,

This set looked stunning over all of the angles shown during the live stream. The tree is simply gorgeous! Too bad about that price tag... yikes...

Gravatar

Those figs don't look like LEGO to me... perhaps because of the ears and noses?

I feel like this is going to be LEGO from now, from an AFOL perspective. Beautiful sets with a much too high price tag.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I need a bunch of those long arm and leg pieces in different colors so I can give ALL of my mini figs more realistic proportions!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The downside of this current LEGO Renaissance is that mispriced, jumbled sets like this are much easier to skip.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

OH, WOW! WHAT A REVEAL! INCREDIBLE TO SEE SOMETHING I HAVE ABSOLUTLEY NEVER SEEN BEFORE!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cool set, but the wrong Avatar.

Gravatar
By in France,

Unless Lego releases a nice looking and detailled sort of dropship, I will be steering well clear of this line. Those legs are just... unsettling.

And that price...

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Amazing set, I cannot wait to mix it with my other themes.

These are the kind of legs I see used on Groot or (only in my imagination) a Slenderman figure!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Fantastic looking set, which I’m very excited to get!!!

….at AT LEAST a 30% discount.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Love the look of the builds but will have to wait and see in person reviews before deciding as it costs on $20AUD less then this years modular building and has a lot less parts, though it looks large - does price add up for comparative sets? Will have to see

Gravatar
By in Finland,

They need to start using long legs with Goofy ASAP

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks absolutely amazing. Tough on the pocketbook because I was hoping for like a $40 set with just the dragon (which is the thing I really want) but this is incredible.

Gravatar
By in United States,

OH BOY I can't wait to bricklink the parts I want out of this thing, because it's entirely too expensive, and like usual Minifigs ruin everything about a Lego set by being most of the price tag.

I wouldn't call this a Renaissance. The Renaissance started in the late 2000s. This is the second period of decline in quality, the first one from the late 90s to early 2000s. The difference is while Lego was making poor business choices in both periods, they went almost bankrupt in 2003 because they refused to cut corners despite failing again and again. The design of most sets declined, but the quality of bricks and production value remained constant. There were many colors and molds in production. For better or worse, they were treating their business like a charity, as has been illustrated by the accounts of them selling many sets with new technology at a loss.

Now, the current decline is for the opposite reason: greed. Cutting corners and raising prices, and other stereotypical aggressive "evil corporation" behavior. On top of weird choices and attempts to go beyond the brick like in the 90s. During both decline periods there were/are also excellent sets, but these were/are aimed at AFOLs while the smaller sets aimed at kids were/are much worse quality. Unfortunately Lego seems unlikely to have another Renaissance anytime soon unless they lose multi-billions.

By in United Kingdom,

Coming to a bargain store near you soon.

Trolls for 2022?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m sad—that’s pricier than I thought it was gonna be. The figs are cool and the tree is gorgeous.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The movie will bomb and this set will need big clearance prices to get anyone's attention.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'll take the dragon, but the tree looks very fragile and all those alien skeleton bones underneath are a bit creepy so I'll pass.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I still miss Elves....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I see you... in the clearance bin.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Gah, I'm not as concerned about the price as much as the reason this wasn't multiple different sets. LEGO is putting out so many giant awesome-looking sets already, why not make this more accessible by breaking it up?

A Lego Samson/Scorpion helicopter would be amazing, even in Technic. But given what happened with 42113 V-22 Osprey, I won't hold my breath.

As beautiful as that Tree of Souls is, this is a hard pass. Looks like this is the year to catch up on older sets I missed when they first came out and sets from my childhood. Then come fall, watch as Lego prices me out of my favorite hobby.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Can’t wait to see this set and possibly get. I absolutely love the Avatar film and can’t wait for next film

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Gonna need to mine some Unobtanium to afford this. Looks awesome though.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

And to quote Dr Augustine about that price…

“You see? You see? I mean, they're just pis*ing on us without even giving us the courtesy of calling it rain.”

those legs aren't new. they've been used in the Toy Story 3 sets for Woody

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wonder if they’re the same 2010 molds or new ones

Gravatar
By in Germany,

It seems that Lego won't give us the piece required to directly "connect" Jake and Neytiri. What a miss! :-D

Gravatar
By in United States,

Gonna paraphrase my older comment-

I thought those legs were forever gone, and it's a good sign they're back, given that there are characters who could benefit from longer legs and arms. (Jack Skellington and Madame Maxime now stand as huge missed opportunities).

The Samson has already been confirmed as one of the four sets. I was really hoping they would have shown us at least one of the other sets since this one was leaked within the last two weeks.

Ah Yes the awkward Woody Legs. Can we get a build your own minifig set with different lengths of legs. That'd be hilarious

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Their legs and arms don’t really bother me as much as the face prints with noses and multi-part eyes. I guess Lego found it too hard to capture the look of Na'vi face within the confines of the modern minifig face design standard.

Don't worry! Lego will increase the price a month later due to the current economic climate!"

Oh okay, that’s a relief!!! ;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

very cool - but those minifigs are horrible, so easy pass. if they went the minidoll route i might have shelled out for this. now it makes the theme a skip (wallet sighs in relief)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I doubt anyone will read this, but here are my two cents.

-Good builds, but bad price! Makes me wonder how well the set is going to sell given kids likely don’t care much about Avatar.

-I can get what they were going for with the minifigures, but it makes me wonder if perhaps there was a reason they ditched the long limbs. I much preferred the look of the ones in the Ideas pitch with the darker blue and normal heads.

We’ll have to agree to disagree. Is a drop in brick quality a current concern? Absolutely. Same goes for escalating prices.

But those concerns, imho, don’t end this renaissance. When LEGO started modular buildings and CMF and captured the licenses for LotR, Marvel and DC, the golden age of LEGO (for me) began and only continues to get better. I’ve been collecting LEGO for 41 years and certainly remember the ups and downs. But LEGO has captured the zeitgeist during this pandemic, expanding its footprint with adults and non-LEGO fans all over the world all while continuing to cater to its core audience of kids. Friends was such a great addition followed by Disney and Architecture and IDEAS and LEGO Flowers and the BLDP and LEGO Art and the continuing excellence of Harry Potter and…

We certainly need to put pressure on LEGO to address the current step back in quality as well as the confusing multi-tiered increases in pricing. But as for the sets, the themes, the designs, the licenses, I could not be more happy.

If i'm going to buy this set, it would just be for the amazing scenery with various rare colour pieces.
Minifigure faces feels slightly weird in LEGO form. Ooh, but the scenery. Nice ;)
