I know we were allowed to preorder it over here, did they have preorders for that set in the UK/Europe?

Not too bad, a few minutes to wait to get into the Lego site, but order placed for the Galaxy Explorer.... Guess a lot of us will be doing it all again on the 3rd!

By in United Kingdom,

I’ll be going to a LEGO store. Should be there when they open, so expecting to get my hands on a Galaxy Explorer later today!

They didn’t have pre-orders for us over in the UK unfortunately, luckily I have just secured myself one though

By in United Kingdom,

The online queue was to be expected but it didn’t last too long - at least not to the point that it became tiresome. Galaxy Explorer was in stock when I came out so that went in the basket.

An extra thing worth pointing out as confirmed is that the Forestman’s Hideout is back out as a GWP for orders above £150. I ordered the Galaxy Explorer and Inquisitor Transport Scythe and had it added to my basket (this time explicitly, not as a ghost GWP like before!).

I would have liked to order the Castle at the same time as the Galaxy Explorer but I don’t expect the latter would be in stock anymore after 2 full days on sale (it might be out of stock very soon, hard to tell).

It's not up in North America, could you consider retitling the article for the applicable region please?

By in Germany,

Got an Explorer, some minor sets and the Hideout. Had to queue a minute or two. First time in ages, that everything seemed to go quite smooth during ordering from the shop on such a day.

What’s happening on the 3rd?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Will get the Galaxy Explorer and the Camaro at some point. But for now it just had to be the Atari. And yes, I have got a real one. And yes, it was much cheaper. But hey, ho... it's not Lego!

I’ve seen comments saying that Galaxy explorer isn’t store exclusive does that apply to the USA?

I'm pretty sure a lot of people would like to get it (I certainly would and same for the Nintendo NES) but I suppose that since money is a finite resources for most people they have to decide which sets to buy - And I guess that to vent the fact that they cannot realistically buy it at the proposed price, they just diss the set trying to convince themselves that it is a bad set thus justifying not getting it.

If you want something but cannot get it - it is easier to find negative aspects of it - then it is easier to convince yourself that you don't need it.

Got the AT-TE here in Australia, but no Forestman Hideout GWP. slightly disappointing but it was worth it after seeing it sold out minutes later.

The Atari 520ST was such a great machine when it came out. I thought it was very powerful compared to what was available.

Yes, with the MIDI interface setting it apart from all the rest (not that I ever used it, having zero musical ability!)

Will the AT-TE be available in North America? It’s marked as “coming soon” without a date, whereas other SW sets have “Coming August 1st”.

I’m happy we could order the Galaxy Explorer in advance here. I got an email from LEGO today telling me my copied was being shipped (so was my copy of the Scythe Ship, or whatever that one is called in English,)

NO Forestman Hideout GWP here in Australia!

The AT-TE has been delayed in North America due to shipping issues, unfortunately. Shouldn't be much longer from what I've heard.

By in United States,

I haven't bought LEGO in a while (was inbetween jobs). When did this waiting room thing start? I'm not against it, although it didn't seem to do anything as a couple minutes after sitting on that screen, I opened a new tab and got in immediately.

Side note, that Batman Tumbler price increase...woof.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Was able to get 31132 Viking Ship, 75333 Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Interceptor, 40521 Mini Disney The Haunted Mansion, and the 40654 and 40568 postcards. Not bad. Queue for five minutes. The real deal comes on the 3rd.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m still waiting on my “pre-ordered” Galaxy Explorer to get here.

Still pumped, though.

Gravatar

Looks like they upped the price of 71770 by 5 more dollars since it was revealed. That's unfortunate.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well a few stressful minutes later (not sure if its my laptop but i was waiting 30 secs before each step became active, a not responding message, and ive ordered Galaxy Explorer and 3 Brickheadz. I'm no expert and it is early but all of the sets I was pondering whether to buy yesterday are the same price today..... Maybe they will go up well Lego.com admin wake up abut 09:30?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

While I plan on getting 10497, perhaps even several copies too, I don't get the panic/haste some here seem to display. It's not a LEGO store exclusive, so in the not too distant future it will be readily available at the likes of Amazon et al with a sizeable discount. I know it's not a bad deal even at RRP, but especially if one is planning to buy several, why the rush?
Incidentally, there is no queue on Shop at Home here, and the Galaxy Explorer is still available.

I think the price increases in UK/EU aren't until 1 September.

I don't get why you aren't in a panic/haste!!!! :-P

Gravatar
By in United States,

And the increases are in and many more sets were affected than B&N had shown. Additionally, Amazon has now updated most previous discounts against the new RRP. I had been on the fence about Haunted and Diagon for quite a while. I guess this settles it. :o(

Anyone notice any changes with PAB?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I wasn't sure what the availability was going to be for 10497, so I decided to buy it off lego.com first thing. I wanted the GWP as well, so thought of some other smaller sets I wanted to get over the €150 mark and then waited for the sets to become available... In Lego time August doesn't start until the first Lego.com employee wakes up apparently, so I gave up at 00:30.

I did order 75337 with a discount on a different site (had to satisfy my buying urge) and when I logged into lego.com this morning, I decided I didn't need the GWP and reluctantly ordered just the Galaxy Explorer (because I couldn't find it elsewhere). I really like Lego, but they do piss me off sometimes.

76218 Sanctum Santorum is £190 in Argos so £25 cheaper than RRP plus there was an £8 voucher emailed out a few weeks back which still works so £182! ?? Oh and the two Speed Champion cars are £18 each too

The £190 is the "old" price, £215 is the new rrp with the price increase already included in it. Clearly nobody at Argos has realised yet

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

No Forestman GWP at Birmingham, they were not sure if there was any coming for the Castle, was the busiest launch day I have seen, ATTE, Justifier and GE were selling fast quite a few sanctums and Ataris going as well, queue for tills were at the door after I had picked my sets and I was 9th in.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Very, very irritating that 10305 isn't available at the same time. That extra two-day time lag is just annoying. Why not make the VIP window for the castle open today? Bah.

I would very much like to snag 40567 but I really don't want to have to mess about with *two* separate orders for 10305 and 10497, especially as I'll also be burning pretty much all of my accumulated VIP points to make this (slightly) more affordable!!

Has everyone seen the new prices? In Canada, it seems most sets over $150 have increased. Razor Crest: $159.99 now $179.99, Falcon: $899.99 now $1,049.99, Daily Bugle: $399.99 now $449.99, Ninjago City: $399.99 now $449.99, Mos Eisley: $449.99 now $499.99, etc. Good job Lego. Increase the price on older sets.

My question is, with the Galaxy Explorer, do you need three sets to make the alternative builds? They limit you to 2 sets per household, so kind of defeats the purpose if so.

I believe you can’t build the two smaller ships from the contents of one Galaxy Explorer box, so you would need three GEs to build all three vessels.

So this is my question too, the instructions for the other two ships are now on the Lego website for 10497 and I have seen it inferred that you could build them both from the bricks for the main set but not seen that confirmed

Due to the re-usage of some bricks it would require 3 sets, but how I look at it, it might be more cost effective to buy 2 sets and bricklink the missing parts to build the smallest ship.

By in United Kingdom,

Thanks for 10497 feedback, have gone ahead and ordered two to get the Forest Hideout, still available in the UK (and will now work out how I will explain the size of the box from Lego when it arrives :-) to my wife) I agree with Mr_Hankey and am going to start with two and see what's missing after you build the larger of the two alternate builds. I am sure some very clever Bricklinkers or Bricksetters will also look to calculate what's missing to readily fill in the gaps - or I may wait to find a third one on sale and get the extra bonus of 2 more red Classic spacemen! My first day one, full price purchase since Barracuda Bay - the pull of nostalgia is very strong on my bank account!

Maybe they thought it won't sell as well in Germany as if it had the set number 10928...
After all, set number 497 doesn't ring a bell for most people over here who had Classic Space sets back then, as it was set 928 (incidentally called "Raumkreuzer und Funkzentrale" in our 1979 catalog) here, so the throwback clue is lost on them.

Nevertheless, it's an awesome set.

I purchased my new Technic helicopter a few minutes after midnight and got a Forest Hideout GWP. The website traffic was enormous, I waited in line for a few minutes. I think the GWP was gone within a few hours, based on several commenters on Reddit.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It is definitely NOT possible to build both alternative ships with one 10497 set.

It's certainly possible to get the necessary parts from Bricklink for less than the price of a second 10497 set (or I should say a third 10497, since I presume you'll want to use the first set to build the Galaxy Explorer itself!).

The main question for those thinking of Bricklinking the parts, though, is how accurate to the models do you want to be? The 10497 set includes several new print pieces that are going to be unavailable on Bricklink for a little while, or very expensive - or unavailable and THEN very expensive when they do become available. And both alt. models use all or most of these pieces: the new 1x6 LL928 bricks; the new 2x4 space-logo blue tile; and all the new 2x2 white printed tiles with the various screens, readouts, and so on.

If you don't care about those details, it shouldn't be too difficult to build the mid-size alt. ship and Bricklink parts for the small alt. ship.

Oh, and BTW, I preordered here in the U.S., but if you didn't, or you're not in the U.S., you didn't miss anything - my nearest Lego Store had a decent stock today, and meanwhile Lego uses the garbage Fedex Ground delivery service, and as a result almost nobody is getting their preorders until later this week. Lego.com also still has plenty.

I think demand for this set is strong, but I am starting to think that it's also an object lesson in why Lego has not revived a stand-alone space theme in recent years: Star Wars, Marvel, and some other licensed themes are more popular.

Good news if you're a Classic Space fan, though: this set will be easy to get for a little while.

P.S. For some reason in Australia the limit per household for 10497 is 5, compared to 3 in the UK and 2 in the US. Go figure. Of course the price in Australia is 180AUD when it should be about 145.

They are flooded on the second hand market, although I understand the frustration of not being able to nab a "free" one direct from Lego after a qualifying purchase. June was really the time to pluck these hideouts from Lego. Speaking of Castle.... After much thinking, I don't believe there will be much incentive to buy the Lion Knight's castle this month; no GWP and no double VIP. A $400 plus Lego purchase needs to be maximized and justified to the fullest! "

Are we really not going to get a replacement GWP for August? I was planning to pickup the new train sets but won't even consider it without a GWP.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is the Forestman GWP gone? I ordered 10305 and the GWP doesn't show up on my order. I did get the GWP in June with the Blacksmith so if you can only get one that may be why. My younger brother really wanted one and I was considering giving him the extra. I'm in the US if that makes a difference.
