As random parts of the day go... not much buzz here. Not the most fertile ground for puns.
And not the most useful piece ever! Granted, I am far, far from mechanically gifted, so even this part's standard uses in Technic machines are beyond my skills, but it's certainly not a popular greeble or an interesting one-use. It's just... "steering gear, 9 module."

'Tie Bar' might have had a bit more pun potential!
So the M in part titles stands for module, not meter.

@Formendacil:
I hear you, man. I’m drawing a complete blank on this one.
stupid question, but does anyone know how to use these things?

As someone who dabbles with technic a fair bit, i’ve used them mostly as a kind of linkage in places I need more movement range than a beam can do, such as connected to a steering system or currently in acrane build for flashing lights (connected to motor and 2x1 beam with other end connected pf switch).
Not found much else use though.

I've used it in the tipping function on a compact dumper.
This part might steer us in the right direction...to infinity and beyond!

I just used them yesterday for a crawler. Using 2 in front suspension for steering (Amazing, I know) and using 4 in the rear to stabilize the rear suspension.
They are also very useful for suspension linkages, since they were developed for 1:8 scale F1 cars where they act as pushrods for suspension.
My most innovative use of them was for a windshield bars in a 1:10 scale car, since they can be attached at any angle and provide lots of structural support.
Reminds me of the great 8458 Silver Champion, which used several of them for steering and suspenstion (although with a different part id, 32293).
I would love to see, Steering Gear, {8, 7, 6, 5, 4} Module.

Never used them in Moc´s myself

It's short but it shows perfectly the greater movement range that PolarMammoth mentions.
I would think something one of these (although shorter...in most cases) would be ideal for say: a steam locomotive's drive-train; esp. with Lego's wheels of that nature having pin-sockets already in them...just a thought...
