US retailer Target has provided us with the first official image of 76214 Black Panther: War on the Water in a news article.

The 545-piece set contains 5 minifigures and is likely to retail for $80. It'll be a Target exclusive in the USA.

Update: Images have now been obtained from LEGO.com

Thanks to bacon1986 for the news.

I think the most impressive thing here is the software.

Though the set could be ideal if someone is looking for an expensive way to wedge open a door.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Looks like a very low-budget Titanic set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Couple of things are missing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The upscaling makes the image sharper, but since it can't add new information it just makes the relatively low information content of the small initial photo more obvious. I don't think it helps. Ugly set anyway.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Wondering how soon LEGO will start threatening everyone to take the picture down only to ‘officially’ release it again 2 days later regretting the early release of the picture by bacon1986.

One of them is an obligatory Black Panther minifigure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those miniature X-wings look a bit funny.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

What a ridiculously lame set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I dunno, I don't think the image resolution improvement looks too bad. Kind of gives it a more abstract artsy look. And given that the set looks awfully bland as it, that's probably the most interest I'm going to have in it, heh.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This isn't encouraging me to see the movie let alone spend money on something that may have such a short lifespan. Seems to be becoming more difficult for new themes to gain fans, if buyers only interested in more of the same from the popular themes.

Gravatar
By in South Africa,

You just need to add a handle on to the top, and it will look like an iron. Will probably pick up the minifigs on BL, but I personally can't justify spending $80 on such a boring looking set

Gravatar
By in Germany,

It looks awful. I'm pretty sure it does not at all capture the actual feel of whatever is in the film even if you consider that such a stealth ship design would always look kind of bland and weird.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Silly they've omitted certain things like a couple of mini-figures to avoid spoilers, when its already pretty obvious whats going to happen, especially if you know how things went in the comics.

Not overly impressed with the set though. As other have pointed out it looks like some kind of cross between an iron and a handheld vac. Though my initial thought was that it looked like the stealth ship from the James Bond Tomorrow Never Dies movie with the side sponsons removed.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I suppose you could wear it on your other foot if you already have 10282 ...

Unusual as this looks, it's a very clean aesthetic. Be interesting to see what the "real" thing is.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Where's the rest of the ship?

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Those minifigs look like the ones that were generated by AI.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

It looks quite bad, especially that random big panel

Gravatar
By in United States,

So is it just Namor versus a ship and two drones? Seems like a one-sided war to me. Interesting epaulet on the figure standing at the stern of the ship.(Okoye?)

@Mr_Hankey: Considering this isn't a leak, but comes from Target's official website, I wouldn't worry.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Those mini dragon-flyers are pretty cool, more so from the photos of the box artwork I've seen leaked elsewhere. Also in those issues the boat had more black on the outer faces which made it look better

EDIT - just checked those images again and I'm wrong it's not all black, but they grey does appear to be more dark bley.

You jest, but I'd buy a purple/silver Dyson handheld if they made one (to go with my trainer). It will happen!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Obligatory fire extinguisher on the deck stands out lol

It's not iron, it's vibranium.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Fairly certain this has already been found on shelves, or at least there are 'actual box in hand' images out there. Check instagram.

Gravatar
By in Spain,

This kind of software has existed for a long time. They give the image a kind of painting style which is pleasant to the eye but does not actually have more resolution. The oldest ones were based on Lanczos (and other mathematical) kernels but now are called artificial intelligence. Like everything else today :-)

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Thought it was a picture of a bootleg version.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Does anyone have a reference image to how this is supposed to look in-universe? It kinda looks like a big tanker boat, but then the scale would be really exaggerated even for lego standards.

Target photoshopping the box art onto their monochrome blue background also doesnt make this look any good

Gravatar
By in United States,

This look awful and overpriced. I'll take all the black Zane headpieces though, I need the for da cloams

Try the Dyson V8!

@huw Gigapixel AI?

Gravatar
By in United States,

This set is so... boring.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like a contender for one of the worst sets ever. You could make an epicly lame Disney-sponsored battle scene with this featureless Wakanda Wedge vs the Last Jedi headless AT-ST.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sigh...

Gravatar
By in United States,

We definitely need to see the actual set, because as of right now this very uninteresting, and at that rumored price, one of the easiest Lego passes ever.

Couldn’t call it a vibranium, though, could you? That just sounds… wrong :~s

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The upscaling is very impressive the me, though the true test will be a comparison with the large scale official image when it comes out. Definitely worth doing, Huw.

Surely the prow of the ship will open up for some playset action... right? If not, I agree with the consensus, it's not a looker.

I actually like getting obligatory protagonist mini figures. Sure, it’s annoying if you get multiple sets, but it ensures you have the main character if you only get one! Plus the spares make me not feel so bad about taking them apart for customization.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This thing has been on shelves for so long and they still haven't announced it? Very strange. By the way it retails $89.99 USD.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That price, though. Looks like a lot of money for not very much.

"Did you see the new Black Panther movie?"

"No. Two months ago I saw an upscaled image of a leaked photo of a Lego set that was designed based on pre-production concept art, and assumed that the movie wouldn't be very good."

Gravatar
By in Germany,

The last black panther movie I saw was Disney's 1967 Jungle Book.
;-)

And clearly this isn't an iron or a handheld vac.
It's an axe where the wooden handle has fallen off.

And as for those flying spanners, give them cute eyes and you have the return of Mixels. 41550 anyone?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh it’s upscaled? Phew, it look like it was generated by AI for a sec! ??

Gravatar
By in United States,

The fire extinguisher trend lives on! Almost every Marvel wave since 2012 has had one, and it continues on 10 years later.

Its upscaled using an AI

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

Very weird and overpriced set. Looks unfinished. Before reading the text, I thought it would be an article about MOCs or prototype Lego sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

600 pieces for $90 USD? I see some larger wall type elements and plates, but nothing about that set indicates why it should cost so much. Maybe there are some elements hidden inside (but I can see that it doesn't open at the front, so not sure how they would be accessed). Maybe they should have gone with an actual boat piece to make it float?
All of those figures appear in much better sets. This one is going to be sitting on Target's shelves for a LONG time.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’ve never built a LEGO turd before, should be fun.

They don't. Namor's the only one not exclusive to this set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's so plain. Which would be fine I guess if it weren't for that price. Maybe if you're really looking for more orc swords?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can probably verify the price for you, as my local target has had these on shelf for at least a week, now.
And yes, it is just as boring looking in person.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

That has to be about the worst way to spend $80/$90 on Lego....

As for the upscale, it can't do wonders but the result is nevertheless pretty decent. Better than just a tiny picture.

Gravatar

Strong 3829 vibes.

$89.99 USD, what a time to be alive.

I had a dream where I was building that one, there was a class specifically just for building LEGO and I was taking it.
Look at the printing of this one, though, is this LEGO Black Panther or Lepin Black Ponther?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm looking at the actual product photos on the Australian LEGO Shop and uh... price aside, this has got to be one of the worst vehicle models that they've produced in recent years. It's fine that it's a simple shape but to also have no exterior detail, no interior other than a small empty cube representing a jail cell, and no play features besides stud shooters slapped to the upper deck - and for the scale to be so blatantly wrong that the side builds are polybag-scaled versions of a full-sized set from last year - is just ridiculous.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Im a sucker for water based sets. If it's boat related then that's my thing. That being said I must admit I really like this. Even though it's bland and boringly gray. But still a boat. I might think about getting this without minifigs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm sure this thing looks incredible in the film, but this might be tied with 75334 for blandest set of the year. The first few images I saw, I skipped over because I thought it was a MOC or bootleg.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

This is the ugliest set I have ever seen.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Unfortunately the trans-yellow parts are 1x1s. If there would be 1x4s in trans-yellow that would be an excellent redeeming feature - as it stand, I suppose all the comments above are fitting.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ooh, look, a Zumwalt found a nice entry-level fishing trawler to shack up with, and this is their love-child. Also, M'Baku. M'Bout time. He was hands down the best thing about the first film.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is worse than Darth vs Obi wan, that set could at least be used as a cool base for ships or the new galaxy explorer.

(edit i swear i didn't see the pics before this, but im impressed there's even less inside of it that i thought. )

Gravatar
By in Germany,

90$ for this has to be the worst Price Value since the last Grievious Starfighter

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Now that official pictures are out and it indeed offers nothing on the inside, I can safely say that the price on this is absolutely insulting. Does Disney tax vary THIS much between the licensed sets, are is LEGO this detached from reality already?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

The SW expanded universe nerd in me sees a potential Moldy Crow model in this...
