Friends Advent Calendar - Day 2

We started the calendar off with our first minidoll, and the last look at Olivia, one of the five original characters in Friends. Let's take a look behind the second door to see what build comes next.
This is a fitting accessory for Olivia - a small scale rocket! It's definitely a nod to her STEM interests, and I'm a little sad that we don't have a dedicated STEM Friend in the new cast (STEM will be distributed among all of them). There's a wrench there for Olivia to continue to work on the rocket. Perhaps it's a prototype for her work at the Academy?
I see we're continuing the fine Friends tradition of incorporate purple in an advent build, though there is a festive touch with the use of some red and green pieces.

I find it interesting that the rocket is exactly like the one in 41713, except for the color of the nose. They should have made it in festive colors.
A wrench? ... really? Wouldn't a fire extinguisher be more appropriate LEGO?

That's one way to represent Olivia's interest.
And I must say I'm a bit sad STEM sets won't be focussed around one character anymore as that would mean they might become more infrequent. We need Friends robots!
I think it could be a good thing that STEM is not all going to be just one character any more. Understanding science and maths is important for everyone, not just scientists. And STEM covers a wide range of things, so asking one character to be interested in biology, maths, rocket science and robotics (for example) is a lot. If it's divided up then each character can have their own thing they're interested in.

The issue they may run into is that not every young girl wants to got into a STEM career. The split focuses of the original group covered a wide range of interests, so most fans could find at least one of the main cast that they could associate with. If the entire group is going to focus on one subject, that will leave a lot of fans without one character to concentrate on, and they may lose interest in the theme as a whole.
Ah. And this is how Olivia is going to leave us.

I'd like to see her coming back in a few years, telling us how we know nothing about the universe ("If you only had seen what I have seen...")!

They said some of the original characters will appear as parents of the new batch (I think Mia was identified as the mother of the girl who’s missing part of her arm). The others are supposed to make cameo appearances.
