Friends Advent Calendar - Day 22

Posted by ,

Only three more days to go in the calendar, and yesterday's market stall with cupcakes was a fine addition. I would expect these last days to finish things off in style.

Well, hmmm. While clearly taking pictures is one of the activities in a Christmas markets, this is rather underwhelming. A camera on a stand, and a remote flash? I don't think it would take that many bricks to make some kind of backdrop for the picture. As it is, this reminds me of the build from Day 13.

While I understand the need for putting in builds like this in the calendar, I would much prefer to see this earlier in the calendar.

"We can agree that this is based on an early '80's Kodak-camera, right? Who do we know that fetishises this kind of tech?

From the bleak and distant hellscape of planet Titan to the warm and cozy city of Heartlake, there is no location and no occasion that Peter J. Quill cannot, will not ruin."

Pretty, pretty... bad. Damn, you, Peter Quill!

This is the point of every 90s and 00s christmas movie where christmas is ruined. Don't worry, the heroes will restore Christmas soon!

-no, not you Star Lord!

Hyberbole btw. This would have looked nicer if it was a bit more substantial and was more colorful. But ah well.

Geez, 3 days to go. This was such a downside slide in quality that it has its own gravitational pull.

So this is the way the calendar ends.

Not with a bang, but a whimper.

As a photographer, I'm wondering what kind of light this is supposed to represent. The transparent plate is fine for something like an LED bank, but the stand doesn't look like any light stand I've ever seen.

I think a better alternative would have been to use the stand for the light (instead of the camera) and attach it with e.g. a bar holder with handle.

@CCC:
But it's upside-down. It's possible to lessen the impact of the text inside the lens tile if you put a black Apollo stud in the middle. The hole through the stud helps capture some of the light.

@binaryeye:
Looks like a type of stage light, but of a type that would have to ramp up to full brightness and would therefore be useless as a flash. Of course, in a studio setting, you could set up constant-on lighting and see exactly what the camera will observe, rather than relying on a momentary flash.

Just when I thought things couldn't get worse with these Advent Calendars. What a boring "gift".
