Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 7

Posted by ,

While the general standard of items from 76231 Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar seems reasonable thus far, there is significant scope for improvement, in my opinion.

Hopefully today presents that improvement...

While not necessarily as impressive as I was hoping, Rocket Raccoon is renowned for his love of heavy weaponry and this accessory looks great. The splashes of orange and reddish brown are appealing and I like how 1x2 grille tiles and ingots provide some texture, while the scope is suitably fixed on top.

The rifle fits neatly in Rocket's hand, with the reddish brown robot arm over his shoulder. Of course, the proportions between this minifigure and the accessory are ridiculous, but I think that works in its favour. The handle component forming a brace underneath is also helpful, keeping Rocket stable when holding his weapon upright.

Overall - This laser rifle is well-designed, although splitting Rocket's accessories over multiple days is disappointing.

Four days of Rocket so far. Not spectacular, but not disappointing. I'm reminded of the guns Marvel's Cable made popular, and presumably some distant influence on Rocket's giant weapons.

I did not recognize it immediately but as soon as I had the completed build in my hand, there was finally that realization. It looks good with Rocket and is a fun thing to have.

The handle component is a new piece, right?

7 days in to most of these, and honestly, I'm not regretting my decision to skip the advent calendars this year, like, at all. There's been a couple of highlights (between, y'know, all of them), but overall, a quarter of the way in has left me with an overwhelming sense of, meh.

FINALLY, A (nearly) PROPER DINOSAUR!
Now we're getting close! Finally a dinosaur in the alleged Jurassic World calender!

Sure, it only has one leg and one arm, but it has a movable neck and head. The tail looks a bit swollen though. Are they supposed to be that orange? Maybe they need that looked after.
Not a fan of the thing on its back and the grilles on its sides. Is this a robot dinosaur with a jetpack or something?

Great photo of it biting the dinosour humanoid hybrid rabbit thing in the neck! A shame we need to prop it up by having something hold the arm though.

That's what you get with one leg.
What is it with this calender and dinosaurs with injuries like swollen tails, holes in the stomach.
And the dismemberment... we've had two 'dinosaurs' and only two arms and three legs between them!

Wait!
Maybe this isn't a Jurassic World calender...

Is this...

Star Wars?

No, I meant, the grey piece that braces the whole thing. I've never seen one of those before.

It was introduced in gold in the Monkie Kid line for the ends of Monkey King's staff but they've popped up in multiple recolors here and there since then.

It was introduced in monkie kid at the start of the theme. Used for the staff. It's been making it's way into more sets recently.

The last four days would've been 2 good days. Boo! Cheap Lego bastards!

The calendars today are really bringing out the Grinch in me. SW HP, save us!

"[Lego], you disappoint me. Yoda holds you in such high esteem. Surely, you can do better!"

Okay, I definitely didn’t get this built right (also, shouldn’t there have been a spare cheese wedge?). I missed the bar plate and the robot arm, and was wondering if they were supposed to form a stand to hold it when Rocket’s digging through his trash for some eyeballs. To be fair, I overslept by 40 minutes, the scant instructions were at the far end of the box (I cut one seal and slide the tray out, so I can store everything in the original box), and Rocket’s blocking the view in the exterior box art.

@andygott:
Yeah, but Rocket and Deadpool look hilarious when they’re carrying guns that size. Cable, not so much.

@Binnekamp:
NatGeo.

Took me a couple of attempt to get it right too. The instructions made it look like the prop stand attached to the pistol grip to me so had to flip around that section of the gun a few times until I realise the stand wasn't meant to be the grip too.

I blame the caffine not kicking in yet though.

I had to locate, build, and repack three models before making breakfast, so I think I spent minutes tops on all three combined. And caffeine, too.

On the box we see rocket with the weapon cooking a turkey. Maybe next we'll get the flame piece and the turkey?

Flame tomorrow, turkey on Friday."

How do you know? You haven't gone and opened them all have you??? Just the flame piece tomorrow? I thought it would come with the turkey and table...

It just seemed the most logical way to draw this out. Actually, if they went with 1x1 round “pilot light” plate Thursday, the full flame Friday, and the turkey Saturday, they’d have managed to stretch out cooking one turkey into a week-long affair.

@Huw @CapnRex101 I love checking Brickset news, but those Advent Calendars are massive spam. Anyway for me to block those threads? It should be somehow sorted.
