Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 12

Posted by ,

The last two creations from this Advent Calendar have been rather underwhelming, so I hope the minifigure expected to arrive on day twelve will prove more appealing.

Find out after the break...

Lord Voldemort returns in corporeal form at the climax of The Goblet of Fire, so this minifigure is a fitting inclusion. While similar to the example from 75965 The Rise of Voldemort, this version of the character is unique, as his black robe has been updated slightly and his face now displays a forked tongue!

An exclusive expression for Voldemort is welcome, as the villain has almost always been shown smiling or angry in the past. Additionally, I like the dark green accents on the robe, representing the tinge of green sometimes apparent in the onscreen costume. The white printing on the torso leaves something to be desired though, not matching the head at all.

Voldemort includes a white wand and stands on a dark brown 2x4 plate, like the other minifigures and their respective mini models from each movie.

Overall - This exclusive Voldemort minifigure benefits from an excellent new head, but the poor colour matching on the torso is disappointing.

Printing a light colour on a dark background is still an impossible challenge for the paint engineers of LEGO.

Alternate universe where Voldemort gives up his racist, fascist crusade and becomes frontman for KISS.

I do feel like he should have a lighter in one hand, and be making horns with the other.

You guys are so right on! I'm putting a wicked ax in his hand and the other is reaching for the sky.

Either that, or grab the vap tower from the SW AC, stick it in a pile of snow, and face it toward Voldy like a recreation of the scene from A Christmas Story. Maybe even grab the minifig from City AC and have one on each side! ;)

"Hey Voldemort, why so bent out of shape?"

(I will never not find that Robot Chicken sketch funny.)

And here I was about to commend LEGO for doing a decent job of printing white on black for once. I guess we all have our differences.

I really, seriously ask myself why LEGO has such bad print quality.
So many alternatives have far superior print quality. How can this be? Is LEGO really not able to do better, or are they cheaping out on purpose?
I have just built sets from three different manufacturers, all with prints instead of stickers, and all their prints were leagues above LEGO. Needless to say their sets were way cheaper. Apart from Cobi, those by now are (almost) as expensive as LEGO.

I absolutely thought that was a white shirt of some sort. Now I can't unsee it. You ruined my joy with your "reality". *weeps softly*

I don't know that I've ever seen an alternate face on a figure that doesn't have a hair or head piece to cover it up.

@the_SWEDISH:
Ironically, this guy _was_ the first alternate face.
