Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 3
Posted by CapnRex101,With a Republic Gunship and Clone Commander appearing over the first two days, this LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar has started with a notable Republic inclination.
Let's see whether that continues on day three...
In fact, our attention shifts to the Separatist alliance and one of the most underrated starfighters, a Droid Tri-fighter! This agile vehicle's unusual shape is recreated using a Technic rotor and a trio of 1x2 curved slopes, with trans-red 1x1 round plates representing its three engines. I love the mixed use of dark blue and sand blue elements, reflecting the wider Separatist navy, while the tiny laser cannon at the centre looks perfect.
Ideally, the curved slopes would close around this laser cannon to form three enclosed rings, but the scale demands some compromises. The red Technic axle between the engines looks slightly awkward too, although I like how it shows through the trans-black 1x1 cone that forms the craft's droid brain.
Overall - While fairly fragile, this rendition of the often-overlooked Droid Tri-fighter looks excellent.

It feels appropriate that day three gifts us with a Tri-Fighter.
I don't like the sound of "fairly fragile".

Part-shedder. Those tri-fighters always were. Although, I have yet to build the latest iteration 75044.
It looks really good. I wonder though, should the sand blue curved winglet not actually be on the top top keep it a bit more symmetrical? It looks odd with just one being a different color now.
For the first mini version this we’ve had, that’s not half bad
@Binnekamp:
I assumed so when I built mine this morning (to be fair, it’s sometimes difficult to peer down the length of the outer box and decipher what’s printed on the back of the little doors). It appears five times in the official box art and product photos in the Brickset set database, always with sand-blue in the top position.
Thank you Brickset for enlightening me as to what this is!
"Continued, this Clone War, has."

I think it works best with the asymmetrical colours, as Separatist vehicles are usually decorated with asymmetrical stripes and symbols. This image provides a good view: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Droid_tri-fighter?file=DroidTrifighter-TCWs3BR2.png
I had no idea what this was. Pretended it was a half-built death star for a while.
