Okay so this is the part where someone tells me what the miniscule difference is between this piece and all the other pieces that I thought were identical but really weren't, and then I collapse into existential crisis and cry myself to sleep.

It has silver ink. Most of the others are colors, whereas this one is hit with some process to become shiny. (sorry about the existential crisis I just caused, BTW!)

Wow. This piece hasn't even been around for a year yet.

Silver speed bumps on the yellow brick road?

@Murdoch17:
More specifically, like chrome parts, this required a different mold to account for the slight increase in size when the paint was added. Transparent parts also required different molds due to the difference in shrink factor as the newly formed parts cool off.

I understand that the mold is different: it has to be slightly smaller to account for the silver ink coating (so once the coating is applied the size and clutch are all perfect). I’m no expert though, I have just read that in a few different places.

Good job on the explanations all: take a bow!

Flipped over, this makes a good bow for a SNOT ship, or as a pair you can make a bow for your 90th anniversary-styled Toa.

That more or less ties up what it can do in a bow.

The new plastic they're using for trans partes no longer requires a different mold so we can expect trans versions of existing parts to appear much more often.
