Trade 100 VIP points for a discount on selected sets
Posted by Huw,
VIP weekend has started early in the VIP Rewards Centre where you can trade 100 points for a online discount of up to €100/$100/£85 on one of eight sets:
- 10306 Atari 2600
- 76405 Hogwarts Express - Collectors' Edition
- 10303 Loop Coaster
- 42143 Ferrari Daytona SP3
- 10304 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 1969
- 76215 Black Panther
- 10290 Pickup Truck
- 42127 The Batman - Batmobile
The discounts are available until Sunday and must be redeemed by Monday 28th, so will stack with the VIP weekend and BF/CM gifts with purchase.
Coinciding with this, brand stores are offering 5x VIP points on the same batch of sets, which I believe works out at about 25% off, which in most cases is a better deal, particularly as you don't need to spend points to get it.

Seriously considering the Hogwarts Express discount, but like, I really want the Eiffel Tower along with the several GWPs...help me choose lol
Nothing off 76210 Lackluster?
Too soon?
It won't be long...
The sets available in the US overlap with those pictured but are not all the same.

100 pts = 100% off!

Which ones differ? I can never view the US VIP rewards centre for some reason.
Just goes to show that these sets ARE ridiculously overpriced.
If LEGO can give you a 100€ discount on the UCS Hogwarts Express in exchange for 100 points instead of 15000, that means that set is at least 100€ overpriced.
I wonder why Lego feel the need to make a sale so unnecessarily complicated
I’m considering 10303. With £70 off then double points I reckons that brings the price down to £247.50. Plus I’d get 3 x GWPs. I’d sell the Lego House tribute, further bringing down the price. Works out well!
Three years ago this would have really excited me.
Not this year.
I have generally found myself to be a pretty mainstream AFOL, and a pretty good barometer of the state of the adult LEGO community. If how I feel about most of the current LEGO releases of interesting and large sets is any indicator, then TLC is in for disappointment with their current offerings at the current price levels.

I don't see the pickup truck.... and perhaps not worth mentioning...
$5 off City Water Police set (60355)
$5 off City Mars Spacecraft set (60354)
Wow, discounts of more than 20% on the Lego website or in Lego stores have been extremely rare in the past 2-3 years. (Notable exceptions are the Adidas sneaker and The Fab 5 Loft).
I’m starting to get the feeling they have completely flooded the market in the past year and sales for these sets are less than anticipated. Anecdotal evidence: I used to be able to keep track in my head of all sets being released but I find myself seeing sets in store that I completely forgot existed (fi the Mario Cube, Starry Knight, Jazz Quartet).
Hoping these discounts are pure generosity, but somehow I doubt that :)
(I’m not a marketing/sales expert, don’t misinterpret my gut feeling as anything more than that)

42143 Ferrari Daytona SP3 and 10290 Pickup Truck replaced with 60354 City Mars Spacecraft and 60355 City Water Police in US. The rest is the same.
US being different stinks. I would have gotten the 10290 pickup with a discount. But not in US.
How do you see how much off the price is offered for each of the sets without redeeming the points first?

Agree--similarly, I used to be able to more or less keep up with all the sets I want. I don't really have all that much on my wishlist. But this last couple years I've been forced to make choices. Too many great sets, but my wallet hasn't expanded to match. Not only that, but I've given up trying to get a decent discount out of Lego themselves. So this is refreshing. Even though I feel like I'm being nickel-and-dimed a bit. Sure 100 pts isn't a lot, but really? You're making us -buy- coupons?
Wait, so there's VIP weekend and Black Friday weekend? Do they have different promos?
If I'm planning on getting the Hogwarts Express, which weekend should I be buying on?
And because of the wonderful rewards policy, you won’t be able to redeem for the ride for 2400 points with 100 point discount.

Buying coupons with fake money points you have to spend money to get. Like lego VIP rewards are normally. This is just a better coupon for sets that aren't meeting sales numbers. Why you would complain about this is beyond me.
How many people are not buying any of these big, expensive, amazing sets because they're waiting for the next announcement, wondering if it might be something even more appealing? Too much of a good thing... There's also the chance that they'll buy some other expensive collectible instead of LEGO.
Is it confirmed if these are usable in store or not yet? The wording on each reward makes it seem like these vouchers are online only while 5x VIP is in store only.

I tried to make it as soft a complaint as possible. Why sell coupons, why not just discount the price? And why you would pick out the one criticism and ignore my praise for the dearth of great sets and the refreshingly good discounts is beyond me.
I hadn't really been planning to get 10306, but now I might, to display next to 71734.
@Huw: You can't see the US reward centre because it's spelled "center" on this side of the pond. :)

The word dearth means "a lack of" ; I think what you meant to say here is plethora.

I always thought of the pickup as being culturally iconic in rural America. So yes, I think it is unfortunate that not only is the US dollar strong but they don't give rural americans a chance to buy this at a discount. So they are smart enough to target their discount to regions where a particular Lego set is the least popular (over supply). Well done Lego. Well done.
I got the voucher for the Hogwarts Express. Not sure if I am really going to use it, but might.
After all, I would get all three GWPs plus double VIP points. I could sell the MISB train set later for RRP, make 100 Euro profit, and keep the GWPs and double VIP points completely for free. Sounds like not too bad a deal.
I don't know if I would have gone in on it, but the Pick-up Truck was not available for the offer here in the US. That's the only one that seemed appealing to me because of the dark red parts pack it is if the discount was good enough, but I guess I'll never know now.

I would have liked a discount on the Boutique Hotel. It's the least they could do after upping the price by $30.00. :-(

Even better... It's not that they're overpriced - they under sell. I'm glad to see people are voting with their wallets.
As I understand it the online discounted sets will also benefit from double VIP points this weekend, whereas the in store offer is just 5x VIP points, so very similar in terms of total discount but online has the benefit of it being a (mostly) cash discount.
I'll take $100 off 42127 thank you very much.
Lego again offering discounts on unpopular sets (like they previously did with Optimus Prime and Lion Knight's Castle).
Not seeing this at all in the Canada store. Very, very tempting. I would much prefer a cash discount over more point, even if the return is better.
Wonder what happens if the set is OOS? Hope they refund the points. Also assuming that using this code would preclude getting another (i.e. physical) reward with that online order.

If you need to 'buy' the coupon for the discount it ensures you pay real cash for the item at checkout. You can get no more money off by redeeming VIP points for a further discount because you can only enter one code at checkout.
Atari set shows $45 off for the 100 points on the US page
100 VIP points requires having spent $15.38 and is worth 77 cents toward a VIP voucher.
People who had spent most of their points complained about the Ulysses 1800 being points, the vintage camera being 2000 points, and the coins being 1150 points. This is an incredibly low threshold for a coupon of up to $100. Requiring a spend of 100 points -- and there have been a pair of "earn 50 point" surveys fairly recently -- limits this to people with active accounts rather than letting scalpers create a bunch of new accounts and stocking up.
5x VIP on Hogwarts Express is $125 toward a future purchase. In store only, $500 initial spend, $375 eventual net.
$100 off Hogwarts Express is $400, and you get either $20 in VIP points toward a future purchase OR $40 toward a future purchase during 2x VIP points this weekend. Online only, initial spend of $400 (and 100 VIP points), $360.77 eventual net.
Will these discounts be available in Hungary?
Kudos to them for trying different things, it seems like a decent variety of things for VIP’s coming up.

Same. I cannot see any discounts in the Canadian Lego store. I guess this is to be expected here - we never get any good discount in Canada and the weak ones we get are on a very poor selection of smallish sets. Also have not heard anything about 5x VIP points in stores. I would have considered the Loop or the Ferrari with either of those deals.
My head hurts. I need a spreadsheet.
Man, I was gonna get the UCS republic gunship because of the 2x points and the GWPs but $80 off the loop coaster is really tempting. Do you still get the same amount of VIP points if you use a discount?
Tough call on either sale. If these sets aren't really selling that good, they may eventually go all the way to 40% off at the end of their run. This has happened to some big sets in the past like the Bucket Wheel Excavator. If it wasn't for the GWP weekend, I may not bite.

I can't find these discounts on my VIP-page at all.
Are they just offered to a limited number of countries or regions?
Edit: Apparently yes. I tried a different region and noticed that there's an extra tab appearing called "VIP Weekend discount offers" that doesn't exist when I access the page from my country, but I can't redeem any vouchers as I'm not in that region. That sucks!

Yes, same here. I don't see this at all in the Swedish store (I'm in Germany right now, so Brickset may tell you something different ;). Guess it's restricted to GBP, USD, and EUR :(
EDIT: Ah, whatever. Probably would have bought the Camaro, but I guess I'll skip VIP weekend now.
Will go for the 76405 Hogwarts Express at weekend what with £85 off 3xGWP plus double points seems a good offer if they still have stock.
On another point here in the uk we have had some good offers from John Lewis purchased 75192 Millennium Falcon for £551.24 plus others these offers now seem to have finished though.
Perhaps Brickset should add John Lewis to show their discounts which they seem to have more often
As to what countries offer open to having just complete one Lego says open to the following
countries This reward is limited for the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Finland, France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Portugal, Estonia, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland, Czech Republic, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, US

Brickset only show affiliated links otherwise Smyths would be up there - Bowser is £172 there at the moment for example.

I think the Boutique Hotel is selling fairly well anyway. The other sets are overpriced, so a coupon will help sell. It will work for me, because I'm considering to get the Camaro.
Need another 110 euros worth of sets to get the GWPs then. There's still time to think. Hope there will be regular good offers.
Was thinking about getting a Camaro and then the pick-up truck, but the conditions state that only ONE promotion code may be entered for each order.
Please note if you are planning on buying more than one promotion.
I prefer the online discount. 5X VIP is fine, but you still need to pay the full amount and buy more Lego to be able to use the points. Also when you use alll those VIP points you do not get VIP points on the amount paid with VIP points. And finally, when using the discount voucher online you still get double VIP points on the remaining amount. Which results in a higher % than the 5X VIP. Anyway, all still expensive
I’m getting really fed up with Lego and its promotions. VIP point redemption is so annoying now. Not having the monthly promotional calendar is also infuriating
Something is wrong when you need 80 EUR discount + double VIP and 3 GWPs for a set's price to feel about right... No wonder these overpriced sets don't sell.

Nice! Our local store is out of stock, unfortunately, or else I would jump on that.
The fact that £85 off is considered the same as $100 stinks for the UK as well, I won't be picking any of the sets up for this. @Huw, do regular sales and VIP points still go forward on Black Friday or is this literally it?

That's possibly LEGO's attempt at settling our inflation with an -ahem- aspirational exchange rate.

My thoughts, not worth much ha, but I'd get the discounted Hogwarts and get the Eiffel later on...I'm banking on it being for sale for quite a while.
the 5xVIP points is tempting, but for me it involves a trip to London, which is best by train, or a trip to Milton Keynes, which is three hours by car. There's also the issue that as much as it counts to a future discount, you still have to spend money initially to get it.
£100 pounds off the HP train is good, as I've seen someone has motorized it. But its still a big out lay when I've just brought the HP castle with an alternative build in mind a fortnight ago, having seen it discounted at smyths. Then I saw it for even cheaper at John Lewis, annoyingly...
Its a shame that you can only get the Eiffel apartment with the Eiffel.
What to do.....

It thinks I'm Chinese. Not sure how that happened.
This is top offer. So the initial price of loop coaster is 400 Euro. Buying it online on Saturday I will get 80 euro discount in voucher then 32 euro in double VIP points and then roughly 88 euro in GWP'w ( grabbing 3 of them) that means basically I can bring price for all the way down to 200 euro. That's 50% of discount incredible as it is !
VIP discount vouchers vs 5x in-store seem to be pretty close in net value. Although the balance would tip slightly if you live in a US state with sales tax but have a tax-free Lego Store in driving distance. (Delaware or the new one in New Hampshire).
Has this offer gone? I can't find it anywhere?
Just found it. What happens if the set isn't in stock though? Presumably they;ll refund the vip points. Not that 100 vip points is very much.
@DiabloWasTaken said:

No, you only get points for the money that you spend. Still worth it though, only have to 100 points to get discounts that would normally require thousands of points instead.
I may be wrong, but I think the fact that you can only enter one promo code per order means that if you use one of these discount codes, then you wouldn't be able to redeem another VIP gift (say the Dragon Adventure Ride) in the same order
@TCSBGDADY:
One physical reward per order. Discounts aren’t physical rewards, so you can stack as many as you can use.
@Igloo:
And points are completely separate from rewards codes. There are two places you can enter codes. You enter physical reward codes from your shopping cart overview page, and discount codes when you’re processing payment info. And the only things you can’t do with rebates is buy more than you have available points for, or spend more than the purchase price of your set.
@FuddRuckus:
If you can complete surveys to rack up 100 points, you can repeat one discount per account. Then it’s just a question if they notice you using multiple accounts with one shipping address.
@DiabloWasTaken:
Rebates don’t earn more points. Only money spent does. Conventional wisdom is to steer clear of using VIP rebates during point multipliers, but these special rebates are worth a lot more than the extra points you’d earn, and they apparently have a time limit that prevents holding them over.
@Steve_L18 said:

Yes, you're right, because these special one off discounts are treated as promos rather than the standard discounts which you can use as many as you like at once.
Even at 25% off, I could not justify a 1-hour-each-way trip to Sheffield for one set in the list.
£85 off RRP of £390 for Ferrari Daytona 42143 is not as much as the discount available elsewhere. I got one for £262 (almost 33% off) and others may have found a better deal. Generally UK consumers can find 20% off on small to medium Technic sets and 33% off on large ones, which just shows the exorbitant RRP compared to what customers are prepared to pay.
It might be that those of us for whom "every set is a parts pack" just see parts and have a price-per-piece limit on what we are prepared to pay. If it's too much, we will avoid that set and buy others instead. I am no respecter of brand names other than LEGO itself, so adding cost for a franchise deal has limits.
Added to that, I don't rush to buy a set of the retailer's choosing; I buy from my wanted list when I like the opportunity. I also don't care about GWPs as they are a small sweetener compared to a decent discount on the price of the set I wanted to buy. On my less-frequent visits to a LEGO shop I may appreciate them but not as part of the deal on what I wanted. Nevertheless the RRP of most sets is raised to pay for them.
I realise that TLG would like all our purchases to go through all the sales, marketing and packaging departments but for me it's just bricks, in the types I want, at the best price. To me all the blather and "wow factor" is a waste, though I appreciate the educational value of building good sets. What is annoying is when a set is designed with too much wow factor and not enough sound engineering, the Hogwarts Express 76405 being a prime example. No flangeless driving wheels for practical MOC trains using curves and points. The set is just a dolls' house on wheels with very little appeal as a parts pack. A go-nowhere train might as well have square wheels :D Give us 100 of the large driving wheels and we'd have enough spares to turn a few down on a lathe.

Which ones differ? I can never view the US VIP rewards centre for some reason."
There's no discount on the 10290 Pickup Truck here in the USA.
I don’t see any of these discounts at all (DK), where do you find them?

"Wow, discounts of more than 20% on the Lego website or in Lego stores have been extremely rare in the past 2-3 years. (Notable exceptions are the Adidas sneaker and The Fab 5 Loft).
I’m starting to get the feeling they have completely flooded the market in the past year and sales for these sets are less than anticipated. "
"
My hunch is that’s their way to limit to 1 per VIP as well as force more purchases as you are limited to one coupon per purchase. Plus it’s an easy way to get those not on VIP to sign-up - an email address is very valuable on the mailing list.
