In Aragorn’s voice, “This is a good plate”.

Now you got me imagining him trying to choke one of these down while Eowyn looks on.

Looking at the part entry, I hadn't realized I had so many of these. This is partially because I'd forgotten how long it had been around.

In spite of the fact that I own both of the earliest LOTR instances of this part, I also had forgotten how "old" this part is.

Inflation hits the 4x4 plate.

Also, yikes! This part is a decade old! Was 2012 REALLY ten years ago? Heck, 2002 doesn't feel like twenty years ago. (I must be getting old!)

The plates go marching 3x3 hurrah! hurrah!

No, LEGO is supposed to have even numbers!

Oh it’s 3 squared. Ok.

But wait, that’s 9 — ahhhhh!

I think I’m up too late today.

By in South Africa,

Has anybody else wondered why this one doesn't have a tile equivalent?

Next we'll have 1x5 plates--it's madness and it has to stop!

In the UK, we call it shrinkflation - paying the same amount for a smaller item.

@raven_za:
Not every plate has a matching tile. Newer plates and larger plates are less likely to get one. In terms of rectangular plates, there are very few outside the 1x or 2x range.

@ra226:
You mean as RPotD? Because 1x5 plates already exist, thanks to Vidiyo.

@PeterT_AFOL:
I think that may be a universal term. since it gets regular use in the US, too. But it is a subset of regular inflation, just with more middle finger to the customers.

5x5 plate gets my vote.

This part still feels so cursed to me.

3x3 plate, with a Plate 1 x 3 with 2 Studs in the middle, and a pair of 1x3 tiles next to it. I use them as my own minifig bases. That makes it a square, very close to 1". I wish the standard minifig stands were 3x3 and not 3x4.

There is a 3x3 tile. But it is a circle. We don't have a 3x3 circle plate though. Maybe they could swap notes.

@Murdoch17: I know what you mean about the passage of time. I have to remind myself occasionally that the Nineties were thirty years ago.
