I forgot sound bricks even existed. Would be interesting to know why they haven't been used in recent years (or at least, as far as I know).

Let's just say I removed the light and sound piece from my kids Duplo very shortly after they got it.
I hope that these wouldn't be as bad, especially as they are aimed at an older demographic. They could still be annoying though.

Got this, but I don't think I've ever put new batteries in it to see if it works.... From the time when there were several really excellent Creator houses.

By in Australia,

I got one of these in a recent purchase of the Hillside Home creator set, for the equivalent of US$9 !
Was shocked to find out it still worked, beautifully!

Who let the door/dog out?

Mine still works on the original battery.

I'm really surprised this was never used in another set. I also didn't know the same kind of sound brick was made with other sounds. https://brickset.com/parts?query=fx%20sound%20brick
It looks like these were only used from 2006-2011.

(I do have at least 1 of the 1980s version with the 9V power connection underneath.)

So, is the sound effect a doorbell ringing, then a dog barking?

Great. Now I've got that song stuck in my head...

On a guess, high cost to produce for a comparatively low payoff. Most kids are capable of making these noises themselves, but each of these sound bricks is only capable of producing one sound bite, while kids can make other sounds when desired. Other than endlessly repeated sounds (police/fire/ambulance sirens, sci-fi weapons, etc.), I see this being something that would work best in situations that aren’t very age appropriate, like a parent playing with a kid who’s far enough below the recommended age that they’ll actually be impressed when mom or dad manages to conjure forth realistic sounds as if by magic. Duplo, therefore, seems a better fit for this type of thing, as popular as they may be with a select group of AFOLs.

Lego produced 6 of these bricks (that specific format) 4 in dark grey and 2 transparent. Each one has been used in one set only.

And the nominees are: (in no specific order)
1) UFO 7065
2) Door/Dog 5771
3) Motorcycle 4893
4) Carousel 10196
5) Dino Roar 4958
6) Alarm Sound 8634.

I have the "alarm sound" brick from 2008 Agents set 8634 Turbocar Chase. I found it at an antique mall four or five years ago in a gallon Ziploc of random parts. It still worked, so I bought the bag. It sounds awesome: a very reverberating, echoing "BWAAA! BWAAA! BWAAA! BWAAA! BWAAA!" I've never used it in a build; I just like to trigger it every now and then.

They have a sound brick in 60246, but not this specific one.

@HOBBES:
So apparently I own the UFO sound brick. I bought that set to form the frame for a better UFO in early 2012 (Brickworld Chicago had “End of the World” as its theme, and my LUG staged a last-minute alien invasion when our LUGBulk order with all my 200ish Alien Conquest Clingers arrived in early May).

@AustinPowers:
It’s a boxer. You can tell by its boxy shape.

@MrKoshka:
They could do one with a person’s voice saying, “Pew, pew!”

Brought two sets of 5771 Hillside house, mainly to make a larger architects style build with all the white bricks but the doorbell was an added unexpected bonus.
