@brick_r:
4 (because it was 4, not 5) and 2 are by far my favorites of the Toy Story films (not to say that 1 and 3 aren’t also great movies), and Forky is easily one of my top five favorite TS characters. Lightyear is a solid film in its own right, and the only two things it really has going against it is it doesn’t feel like a typical Pixar film (rather, it feels like it was aimed squarely at those who grew up on the original Toy Story), and the whole nontroversy about Evans being cast as Buzz. For the record, he’s the fifth actor to voice English dialog for Buzz in a movie or TV series, because they had three different actors play some version of Buzz in some short clips (they aired during ad breaks on TV), Real-Buzz in Star Command, and Happy-Meal-Buzz in Small Fry. Allen voices Toy-Buzz, and if you think of this in terms of how things would play out in the real world, if Lightyear was canonically the first occurrence (as the opening text indicates), it makes sense that they would hire a big name to do the film, while hiring sound-alike actors to do the voice work for any spin-off animated series or talking toys. And the Happy Meal version needed to sound different. And Socks may have seemed stupid and pointless to many at the start, but when you find out why he’s in the film, he’s pretty cool.
