It's mostly used as a robot head in Friends. But it's sometimes used for greebling in Star Wars and other themes.

Functionally, it has some similarity to part 86996…which Bricklink has classified as a Brick, Modified.
Great idea for a piece but they wasted the potential by not having rod accepting eyes

And to those worried about the age of Johnny 5, it’s still kicking around for the younger generations, just not as much. He’s not obsolete!
Zobo will be missed inthe upcoming Friends reboot.
They make such nice exhaust pipes (for non-fossil fuel combustion)!
I didn't realize this piece had seen so many non-Zobo applications.
@Brickalili: There was an RPotD Yesterday, but it didn't have an image, so it was taken down and not replaced. It was the half-ball used in ornaments like 850949.
