I want some for Boksing Day!

By in United States,

Only ever available in one set: 3677 - Red Cargo Train from 2011

Only 7 for sale on Bricklink currently, from ~$35 to ~$115 (US). It's a VERY expensive part, considering it has but one use!

Could this be the most obscure part of the day yet?

Someone threw it into our LUG's giveaway bin, and I regret not taking it. I was new to the group and didn't want to seem greedy.

I could have use it a few times. It's surprising how often the desire for a differently coloured battery box comes up.

By in United States,

I purchased a bulk lot with most of 3677 in it, and it was missing this box. That $30 stung a little.

While 3677 might not be the crown jewel in my collection, it is certainly up there due to this special element required to make the locomotive engine compartment 4-studs wide.

Sounds like an Ikea product.

By in United States,

I guess someone didn’t understand that “AAA” isn’t a word that needs just the first letter to be capitalized?

@Murdoch17:
Go look up the Monorail motor cover sometime. If you’re building a train that’s only 4-wide where the battery box is located, color can become very important. If you’re trying to part together that set, it’s necessary. Between the two, demand drives the price up.

anybody remember Rokenbok? that's what this reminded me of, for some reason.

I had the same thought; I realise it’s a battery box but it sounds like a nonsense Swedish bookshelf

It's Danish ;) Well, and probably also Swedish, though I think you'd normally spell box as in 'box' (at least in Swedish; not a native speaker for neither). But it literally means what it sounds like. Proper word, no nonsense.

Yeah but the point me and the Librarian are making is that, for all it being actually Danish, it -sounds- like an IKEA product and IKEA is Swedish

By in Netherlands,

To be honest, at first I thought this might be Mario's underside or something. The RPOTD has had so many 2020 or later parts that it being from a train set in 2011 didn't cross my mind until I actually read the part's name.

Well, Danish and Swedish are both Scandinavian languages. They're similar in a lot of respects. In turn they're related to other Germanic languages like German, Dutch and English. Hence why the roots of words are similar. Not to mention the closer linguistic ties the speakers might have due to trade and proximity.

My best friends aunt had a massive collection of Rokenbok, that stuff was crazy! I never found it quite as fun as Lego, but it was cool anyways. And come to think of it, Ive NEVER seen it anywhere else, for sale or advertised in any way. Pretty uncommon I suppose.

According to Wikipedia, the company changed their name and stopped selling it in 2015. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kid_Spark_Education
