No prizes for guessing what the element's function is here.
I ordered one of these once. It was a big shock when it arrived.
Needed some of these back when we saw those price increases earlier this year.
I've heard the jokes about previous shock absorbers and overpriced sets. This is a BIG shock absorber though, I have a feeling we're going to need it if TLG ever follows though on their metaverse investment.
I need one of these when I go to the horror movies.
So, is it a big absorber for shocks, or an absorber for big shocks?
I feel like Howard Wolowitz would make an entirely inappropriate joke about this element.
A very confusing part, database-wise.
As far as I know, there are both multiple spring strengths and color combinations available, typically each with a different entry in both Bricklink's and Lego's databases.
The first version of the plastic moulds involved (2909/2910) appeared in 1991's 8838 in all black (aside the metal spring).
I really don't have a clue, when each different version after this was released, nor am I sure if any were intentionally available simultaneously at any given time. The mould at least does not seem to have changed I guess...
It also has confusingly many entries in the old LDD...
Big or small, they absorb it all...
Just came to my mind: Washing machines are sock absorbers!
For a second I thought it said 'Bio Shock Absorber'...but that'd be something coooompletely different :)

We've had quite a few shock absorbers as RPOTD this year - and we definitely needed them...
Never knew what BSA stands for. Well, it didn't work too well for Tinus unfortunately...
(Regular inside joke)

A device or system that absorbs games, never to release them? Why friend, we have Lego Ideas for that.
I get a big shock if these are ever included in a set.
