Big Brick City Survey

Posted by ,

Do you have a LEGO city set up at home? If so, you might be interested in participating in a survey:

Richard, who's running it, writes "We want to know about your LEGO City - what it’s called, how big it is, and more - to see if we can find any cool trends around the world. If that wasn't motivation enough, we're offering one prize of $100 USD in LEGO sets or vouchers to one winner drawn at random. You can enter without providing your personal details, if you prefer!

"We will then publish a report of our findings online, which we can hopefully then use to compare data year after year.

"Questions include naming your city, its size, and most notable landmarks. The survey should take 5 to 15 minutes depending on how in-depth your answers are, and entries are open until Monday, 30th January 2023. Results will be published in early March."

Head on over to bigbrickcitysurvey.com to participate.

I have a city but I don't think it's big enough to enter this (It doesn't have any buildings yet)
Maybe some other time :(

Very interesting!

What I've learned so far is that I need to get around to naming my city... It's a multi-level, car-free, monorail-based place that exists only to be invaded by aliens - any ideas...?

Hmm, how about 'Breachburg'? It's a silly take on Bricksburg from TLM but Breach because it's getting 'breached' by aliens. Maybe a little too in-your-face but hey, my little setup is called 'Tiny Town' so I think I'm allowed to throw it out there :P

By in United States,

Speaking of BiG, the 1988 movie of that name has an amazing LEGO display in the FAO Schwarz sequence. That's a pretty cool window into the past.

Happyville or something along those lines :)

My city is called Reallyusefulboxville but it dreams of growing into a thriving metropolis one day.

Or the 5 skyscrapers that Buddy builds in "Elf." Though if Buddy is Will Ferrell, and Will Ferrell is The Man Upstairs in TLM, it would be a really sad turn of events if he lost his joy and excitement over the years and needed to be reminded of the value of play by his son.

I had a city setup. It was on three 40” X 80” tables.

But the kids were barely interested in it. So now it’s being converted into a moonbase.

Is it more a collection of vehicles?

Our family's "city" is spread out on eight Ikea tables in the basement and presently consists of a 60"x60" Ninjago City + Pirates area, a 60"x90" Town area (mostly filled with Modular Buildings), and a 60"x90" Castle area. The minifigure-scale Hogwarts modulars sit on a 10"x50" shelf. The "city's" name changes constantly.

My city is Legoredo, it’s a city in the American west that uses the old Fort Legoredo set as a museum and historical monument in the middle of its historic downtown

By in Australia,

I don't have a Lego city up. Instead, countless Star Wars MOCs on 10701 baseplates populate the room

More like a road with several people

I should probably get more city sets

By in Estonia,

You are asked the exact population of your city while other answers about sizes etc may be quite vague estimates.

By in United States,

As a kid, my city was named "Lego City".
I was SO creative! /sarcasm

Gravatar
By in Australia,

My City only consists of 10246 Detective's Office surrounded by Star Wars and Ninjago models and minifigures.

By in United States,

My city is called MichLUG Display, is entirely variable in size and content, randomly pops in and out of existence, sometimes appears in multiple places at the same time, and always features Batman.

Buuuut...(Ahem) [and you know 'the tune':)]
I haven't built a city
Haven't built a city
Not just yet
Built a city...

One day, some day...
and I can really see 'the base', a table-top insert for a pool table; with anchoring parts in the corner pockets...yes, it wouldn't be huuuuge; but that'd be the point: something smallish to allow easier accessibility than crawling under and over stuff...just a thought:)

Ha, yeah me too. I'm constantly thinking about additions but never noticed that I never named it. But I guess since my love for LEGO started with 6274 and the ship's mast is now part of my city's main square I'll go with Broadside Falls.

Population is also an interesting question. I own 608 minifigs according to Brickset. Gotta do a census over the holidays how many of them are in the city. ;-)

Love the name. And the survey has inspired me to add more of our minifigure collection to our actual "city," in order to boost those population numbers! Grow or die! (sarcasm)

Thank you for your suggestions!

I've since had a major crisis-of-conscience about the city: do I really want it to be based on conflict & violence...?

No. So now I'm thinking it could be the post-scarcity, socialist (lowercase 's') utopia of my dreams, which led to thoughts of the Culture from the novels by Iain M. Banks so maybe I'll name it in his honour...?

This is tricky. That which we call a rose might well still smell as sweet, but it seems a name remains important!
