Why? Because we have LOTS OF TEETH!
Wait...that's not how that song goes...
I got two 99010s and a 12172…
SO hard to separate from it’s counterpart.
Can I get two of these...and a microphone...RIP: Jeff Beck :(
I never understood how to use this...
The closest many of us will ever get to a Z28.

A lot like a turntable piece just for technic. It can be turned using a gear due to the teeth while the lower part is still

That’s ironic given the 90s-early 2000s F-Bodies were built in Canada.
And I grew up in a town full of Z28s and 5.0s. The people’s transportation.
A Z28 Top, not to be confused with a ZZ Top

ZZ Top drive a custom 1933 Ford coupe with a Corvette engine, not a Z28.

You have put far too much thought and effort into replying to my very basic pun
Has anyone ever figured out how to separate the two halves of a Technic turntable? I've always given up, and view them as inseparable, which presumably breaks the Lego code.
First encountered this part in 42004, a whole decade ago! Time does fly.
Useful for geared rotation at the end of a lifting beam in logging truck 9397 , when the larger geared turntable is too big. Most interesting use is in each of the 4 tracks of extreme adventure truck 42069 .
Together with the larger geared turntable I don't know why bricklink etc sell the top and bottom separately as this makes them pretty useless and just doubles the price, especially as unlikely to lose one half when you need a flat screwdriver in one of the slits to separate.
How the turntables have turned.
@Brickalili:
Nah, anyone who knows ZZ Top knows exactly what car I referred to. And most of us would probably rather own the coupe.
@BooTheMightyHamster:
There have been a few “permanent” connections over the years. The original Bionicle Toa head and eyeblock is one example, though it is possible to pop them apart with enough leverage. The newer Technic cars have used a wheel hub that seems like a permanent connection. There have also been very permanent separations, as old Technic sets often included one length of flex tube with diagrams showing you where to cut it to build the set (I have yet to see a fix for how to undo those cuts).
@ambr:
Sometimes tops or bottoms come in multiple colors, and selling them separately allows buyers to mix and match. Also, if you assemble them, per Bricklink TOS, you can’t sell them as New anymore.

Sometimes, though, it's very useful to have only this half. Great for homemade torsen limited-slip differentials, for example.

I may have good news for you . . . Jeff Beck [RIP] != Beck David Hansen
