It’d be funny if the temple of doom set was only delayed and we all lost sleep over nothing
(We can only hope)
Temple Escape is another amazing diorama set, and should look really good next to the three SW dioramas and the T-Rex breakout set from last year. I'll definitely be picking up that temple!
That canopy on 77012 for mini Razor Crest like 75312 !!
Well, it certainly is a statement.
Might get 77012 if I find it with a decent discount, otherwise I'm not that interested. Gotta be more selective nowadays.
About time, lol.
I love that the Star Wars reference has stayed in the Lost Tomb!!
Escape from the Lost Tomb looks like fun to knock over the statue and escape with the treasure if you don't mind a few snakes all at a reasonable price. For display I would add a ceiling so Indy can climb down?
Fantastic statement regarding ToD. Why did they even bother?

I see Bionicle and Fright Knights references in the sets as well.
Was interested until I saw the stickers...
The Temple of the Golden Idol is really nice BUT...150€ and they couldn't even be bothered to print AT LEAST the display plaques?
LEGO should just update their motto to:
"only the best is good enough"*
(*terms and conditions apply)
Temple of the Golden Idol looks very computer render-y...
Still looks like a decent set though, I like the quotes.
I do wonder if the Temple of Doom was cancelled out of Hindu religious sensitivities.
If I’m not wrong, the Indian government refused Lucasfilm filming permits unless a script overhaul was undertaken to remove derogatory elements especially with regards to deity presentation. Lucasfilm then promptly moved production to Sri Lanka so I doubt any changes were made.
That is the most nondescript answer they could have given, "consolidating the launch". It's obviously not true either, considering that the set had already started to go into production when they canceled it.
On a better note, I think all three sets are quite good. Especially 77015 which might be my favorite of the dioramas they've done so far. It might have a lot of stickers, but everything just melds so well together.
Interesting design choice making the temple a sideways diorama. Could a straight diorama maybe replicated some scenes, like the boulder one, better? Eh, cool set regardless.
I think there might be truth to the rumour of no Dial of Destiny sets later in the year, surely LEGO would’ve also mentioned it to the press? Very strange decision if true
I like the two escape sets and the car is great, but the plane is awful in my opinion. I'm also quite surprised at the LEGO stance on war seems to have changed, given that there is a major bunch of bad guys from a certain period in history that is in this film!
Literally made a Nazi vehicle but thought the temple of doom would be too far
Well it sure was nice of Lego to provide no meaningful information about the cancellation of the Temple of Doom set so that people can continue to use it's cancellation as confirmation of whatever preconceived notions they already had about the Lego company and it's values.
so they cancel the temple of doom but keep the nazi in?

I mean it was fine in 2008, so that shouldn’t be a huge surprise.
I bet they canned the temple of doom set to make a big 18+ one
The Ark Chamber is surprising reasonably priced at €40 for a set with 600 pieces. Will get it on a discount, maybe even an additional one to part out.
Their set desprictions / advertisements are a bit laughable if you take into account that a) Indy is fighting Nazis and they can't mention it and b) none of these movies are what I would consider kid-friendly.

They had all entered production.
I still can't believe that 77013 Escape from the Lost Tomb is so "cheap".
It has 600 pieces compared to the 387 in 77012 Fighter Plane Chase, and 4 minifigs compared to 3, and it's still only $5 more.
That said, they all look great, can't wait.
Want the car, idol, and the Indy without the tie. Might have to go to bricklink.
That rolling boulder mechanism is pretty awesome!
Indiana Jones and Marion Ravenwood with dual-moulded parts. Very nice!
I'm not complaining, but the lost tomb is only $5 more than the plane chase? I might pick up the cheaper two. Obviously the quantity of stickers is a downside, but it's unreasonable to expect them to print most of the stickers in the tomb. I wish the canopy in the plane chase was printed though. I guess they went with keto-orange in the tomb because they wouldn't have to do recolors? Maybe the gold didn't pop enough. I wish the ark at least was all gold. The minifigs look really good! I like the new hat element, and Marion looks accurate.
The past is ruffling some present day feathers. The wonderful world of cancel culture...
The diorama 77015 is very nice. I wonder what the 4 dials/knobs in the front do?
(1- Release the rock, 2- Rotate the top axle to simulate crossing the gap, 3- ???, 4- ?(might be to shine a light on the statue)?)
From the first pictures, I truly believed the little 'squiggles' at the bottom were brick built.
From IMDB: "The Messerschmitt fighter planes that chase after Indy and Henry after they escape on the biplane from the Zeppelin are in fact Swiss-built Pilatus P-2 trainer planes, which were manufactured shortly after the end of World War II."
So, you can relax: they're not actually aircraft used by the German Luftwaffe.
I am going to say that despite 14+ years of improvements in building techniques, the Ark of the Covenant somehow looks worse than its 2008 predecessor.
Sallah at last! Also nice to finally get a Hovito, although… just *a* Hovito?
I like Indy’s new hair / hat combo.
As I’d expected a while, sets based on the existing movies are mostly conceptual remakes of the sets from the 2008-‘09 line, rather than previously untreated subject material. I still hope it brings a few totally new ones eventually, though, like a Lao Che Air Freight Ford Trimotor or a Republic of Hatay tank. Interesting that the Last Crusade fighter chase moved to later in the sequence, though, to replace the Jones’s appropriated biplane with their subsequently appropriated roadster, and actually produced a smaller, less expensive set in the process (the new design for the remaining plane undoubtedly helping in this goal). A welcome surprise, given how both the Raiders location-based sets are grander and more expensive than the previous versions. Not that I’m complaining about the lovely designs, just the fact I need to be able to pay for them. I don’t foresee myself being able to get duplicates of practically the entire line this time around like I did with the original Indy line.
So…77014 has definitely been cancelled? Is there official information beyond what’s in the press release excerpt shown here? That wording is exceedingly vague, and doesn’t even indicate that there was ever a Temple of Doom set in the works to begin with, let alone what its exact fate is. Could it be getting delayed or redesigned, or is it definitely out? It’d certainly be understandable - as dearly as I love this franchise, it’s undeniably full of problematic elements, and probably nowhere more so than throughout that entire particular adventure - but it’d be good to at least have some more concrete info.
Generally great designs here, although the reliance on stickers is seriously disappointing, if not exactly surprising. I’ll still get them (and thus be part of the problem :p ), but I really wish they’d print more. The Well of Souls could also use more snakes. The original Raiders “Lost Tomb”, 7621, had ten, and it was just a $19.99 set rather than a $39.99 one (albeit $19.99 in 2008 dollars, of course, but still). I do like the new (?) colors of the classic rattlesnake element, though (even if rattlesnakes are seemingly just about the only ophidian variety not seen in the scene in the film). But I’d been hoping for a return of the cobra from 71008-4 , Minifigures Series 13 Snake Charmer. I’m glad I got a few of that figure, then several more of the cobra when it showed up in the BAM kiosks. Those will definitely be going into my MOCed Well of Souls along with elements from both the official sets. The new designs for the statues look good.
All in all, a promising start to the revival. Before this, LEGO Indiana Jones totaled 16 boxed retail sets across two years / four waves of releases, covering scenes from four films. These give us very little in the way of new scenes, but do at least give us a couple more official characters (one of them *sorely* missed from the previous run), as well as greater builds for some of the previous subject matter, and we all know that whether anything else from the previous movies is coming, we should be getting stuff from the new movie eventually. So… cool! Cool cool cool.
If I have one singular hope for the line beyond what we now know or can be sure of, it’s that they also give us something from the body of Indy lore beyond the theatrical features, most crucially from the TV series. But I realize that’s an extremely long shot, and I shouldn’t hold my breath waiting for TLG to give us any Young Indy stuff. But then, MOCing is part of what LEGO is all about…
I think maybe Temple of Doom got canned because they just didn’t think it would sell well.
Anyone else think it’s odd we only have two sets compared to the dozen or so back when Crystal Skull came out? There also aren’t really sets for the new film.
While I appreciate having access to the “real” Lucasfilm Indiana Jones, it does come with significant disadvantages. One, you’re tied to the scripts and can only represent events of the films. Two, there are events or details that have to be glossed over or avoided altogether.
I think I prefer Johnny Thunder-esque products, as they avoided both problems. He’s not Indy, sure, but is now a legend in his own right. And probably wouldn’t have existed without LEGO trying to work around the licensing issue in the first place.

Hopefully they make some after the fact. LEGO sets based on movies are usually better after the movie has come out anyway, as most sets that coincide with a movie release end up being based off limited concept art so designs or content is slightly inaccurate or just laughably wrong (looking at you 76008 Iron Man 3: Mandarin Showdown)
Though I'm sure somewhere in the infinite multiverse there is a Mandarin that had a flame-throwing tank.

Lego's stance is to not make military vehicles in CURRENT SERVICE. It does not apply for historic models or for vehicles in a movie context like here.

*three sets, should have been four
The new sets, if they aren’t canned, are coming in July, closer to the film’s release.
I missed this theme the first time and will probably get all of these. I would also like to see Jock's plane, maybe that will be a future set or even a GWP.
Could they be saving Temple of Doom for the 40th anniversary next year? I’m clinging to hope here. It did come out in 1984. They did wait for this year for the 30th anniversary of Jurassic Park…
Well that’s an incredibly disappointing answer about the Temple of Doom set. I was really looking forward to it. :-(
That said, the three existing sets look fantastic! Can’t wait to get my hands on all of them.
I’m not saying much new, but I’m very upset about the Temple of Doom. LEGO’s current lineup covers 2/5 movies, with no rumors to indicate there will be sets for Dial of Destiny upon release in the next 3 months.
The set was obviously pretty far long in the production process as we have leaks of the completed box art. 77014 The Temple of Doom is mentioned in the set descriptions of the sets LEGO revealed today, on their own website.
I don’t think the statement rules anything out. I’d go as far as to say it deliberately dances around 77014 and Dial of Destiny. The notion that they’ve “consolidated the launch” leaves open the possibility of more sets in the future, but it could also be referring to an isolated wave. The statement is too vague to be anything of substance.
77014 should be on shelves this summer. So should Dial of Destiny products. There’s no logic to the idea that LEGO would’ve brought this theme back from a 14-year hiatus to make three remakes of old sets covering two movies.
I feel like they might just redesign the temple of doom entirely and release it in the future… I am loving the new Indiana Jones revival! The small sets are so well priced and it feels like lots of love was put into the sets
I'm seeing tons of common parts throughout, with few recolors. Have a few of the original waves so I'll pass.
The prices are actually reasonable!
I see a King Kahuka mask on the diorama set, love me a Lego Pirates reference!
Also really bummed about the temple of doom cancelation, feels so dumb...
Clearly Indy handing Short Round an idol last night influenced this reveal.
Shocked at the reasonable prices here. Definitely don’t believe their reason for not releasing the Temple of Doom set though...what’s a more iconic scene/moment than that?!
I didn’t know mummy’s had abs? Lol
I'm wondering why Lego even bothered to make a statement about the Temple of Doom set at all. Furthermore the wording in the statement is vague, is it cancelled for good or delayed..?
I think Lego likely cancelled it to avoid any potential backlash but are using this statement make it sound like they didn't have have the resources to focus on the set. That said; they'll cancel the Temple of Doom but have no problem with the German fighter plane set..
I personally don't think any of the sets should be cancelled at all; it's all based off of movies, but it's just weird their stance is just flip flopping here.
Not sold yet on 77015
It has the potential to be a "must buy", but something about the design feels very cluttered and messy. Being $200 CAD also seems a bit high for the value it presents.
I think as a classic movie diorama 76956 did a MUCH better job, and for $70 less (To be fair, with 333 pieces less, which makes it 0.21cent per extra piece).
77013 looks fun, and with the 20% off from amazon later on, a great buy that can be added to the adventure Egypt theme.
The plane is meh.
They look good overall. If money was no object I'd be interested. But now I have to decide if I should relive my youth through Indy LEGO, or eating...
Excited for the idol temple as I always wanted the old one. The plane set is cool as well. It was weird to rewatch the Last Crusade at the weekend and realise (due to that set) that Indy wears a tie for a significant chunk of that movie. Weird choice cos he's not a tie type of dude.
I personally don't like the new Well of Souls set. I appreciate the improved accuracy of the jackals, but I had the old version and thought that was a perfectly nice little set (before I sold it). This one seems unnecessarily large.

R2 and 3PO glyphs are actually in the movie, nice to see Lego own IP added to the set too. :)
Lego still referencing the ToD set online in the descriptions of the other sets:
'More movie action – Look out for the Fighter Plane Chase (77012), Escape from the Lost Tomb (77013) and The Temple of Doom (77014) LEGO® Indiana Jones™ sets'
Why did I think these were going to be more expensive then they actually are? Well, a pleasant surprise for me I guess!
Man, those renders look bad.

I see King Kahuka's mask and classic minifigure head in the golden idol temple in the idol-room's stickers.
This is why official sites just can't keep up... We've been able to see pictures of these for over a month, first leaked, then in-store, then in-hand and built, and NOW brickset is able to even tell us they exist. What's the point of a news site if there's news it isn't allowed to report until some arbitrary street date?
@xboxtravis7992:
What Fright Knights reference did you see? The Well of Souls set has a Bionicle Kaukau mask and an Exo-Force drone head on the right, “these two droids” on the left pillar, and what kinda looks like a Crystal Skull above where the Ark sits. Additionally, the Golden Idol set appears to have King Kahuka’s mask in the upper left of the Golden Idol chamber. I’m not seeing anything else out of the ordinary.
@SuicideSkwad:
Disney probably contracted for any and all Dial of Destiny news to be released through a single media enterprise, which shall not be Brickset. TLG’s hands are tied in these cases, which happen very frequently these days.
@HOBBES:
WAG: 1. Gear mechanism for the boulder trap (which is not free-rolling like the previous version), 2. Door trap, 3. Pit trap, 4. Activate spotlight on the idol.
@ResIpsaLoquitur:
Germany used them as trainer aircraft, but not in combat. They also used the landing gear on the Messerschmitt plane this is supposed to represent.
I love this https://brickset.com/sets/tag-Diorama tag so much these days.
I wish 77012 had some seagulls and an umbrella.
After comparing these new figures to the original 2008-2009 figures, I've gotta say I'm really impressed by how good the originals were for their time. In some ways a few of the original figures seem to be better than the new ones, mainly Henry Jones Sr. I am very excited for these new sets though, both the figures and the set designs live up to my expectations!
I love the fig for Jones Senior, one can immediately tell its Sean Connery I might get this set for this fig! Are those fenders new pieces btw? And that 77013 is a must buy, I love all the Egyptian decorations! If money was no issue I would buy all three, very nice sets!
Very nice timing, considering the reunion of Indiana (Harrison Ford) and Short Round (Ke Huy Quan) at last night's Academy Awards, even is none of these sets is from Temple of Doom.

What’s the point of wasting time with blurry photos when official sites have boatloads of crystal-clear images a week later? If you get all the info you need from a screenshot of a screenshot of a screenshot, go for it, but let’s not act like that’s the prime way to experience news like this

The temple run from the opening of Raiders. Not even a contest.
77012 387 pieces, €35
77013 600 pieces, €40
There's something wrong there. I wouldn't be surprised if that 40 is a typo and that set will end up costing a lot more.
Would have been nice to get a brolly and some seagulls in the plane chase set ;-)
@Judgeguy:
On the contrary, when he’s teaching his class, it’s not just a tie, but a full 3-piece suit, even with a bow tie on occasion.
Going to take this rare opportunity to say I'm relieved and happy the smaller sets are quite reasonably priced! I've been waiting for another Indy wave, and I can't wait to pick these up! Bummed about the Temple of Doom, but that means more potential money can go towards possibly picking up 77015.

That's how they did the original set, to follow the path Indy took in the movie. Like a cutaway to see all the action and play features.
The smaller sets are cheaper than I expected, so that’s nice. But what on earth is that response behind the Temple of Doom’s cancellation? That is the worst PR response I’ve seen in a while.

I believe there's a Sankara Stone hieroglyph too on the right side.
That's some sub-par cg rendering! What's up with that? I hope these images are still not finalized because these seriously remind me of those horrid renderings on today's instructions. With these it's hard to visualize what your set will actually look like in real life!
As for the sets... the 2008 range was far more economical in depicting these scenes. But the Ark tomb set seems surprisingly affordable at 40 euro. I thought that would be another 60-70 euro price.
As a proud owner of the original version I'll just stick to that though. Snake dumping feature and all!
And I spy a Kaukau Kanohi (Bionicle mask) glyph and an Exo Force robot head glyph. Great to know the graphic designers remember what other themes there were in 2008 too. But it's a bit odd to see them on a movie scene like this. That's the thing with licensed themes, there's this strangely stiffling sensation that accuracy can bring.
I like that the tomb has play features. But the lack of those on the temple escape is disappointing. It's literally THE gauntlet of traps. The 2008 version had it right in packing as much functionality as possible. I know it's 18+, but it's the one scene from Indiana Jones that would make for an Adventurers style playset with functional traps.
I owned almost all of the original Indiana Jones LEGO sets but sold them a long time ago because unlike the other themes I collect, the Indiana Jones sets don't make sense when built together. A temple in South America built next to a temple in Africa? I love the movies but don't have space to store a theme that isn't very satisfying to build all at once.
So I am VERY excited for 77015. I love the diorama approach because I would be happy to build multiple 'display' pieces based around different scenes. I hope they make more!
@legoDad42:
A few key parts of that scene are filmed from the right side of the corridor as they enter, creating the illusion that the corridor leads from the entrance on the left, to the idol chamber on the right. The fact that western cultures usually read L-R further enforces this.
I'm not seeing the Sankara Stone you mentioned. If you're referring to one of the two things that looks like a Tic-Tac with duck feet, I'm pretty sure those are supposed to be cartouches. They did plan to include the stones in a set, so I'm not sure a reference would have been seen as necessary, anyways.
@Binnekamp:
Why would you think the Golden Idol temple wouldn't have built-in play features? The back of the box isn't pictured, which is where they'd put the insets that show them off, but there's clearly a mechanism to simulate the boulder rolling down the rails, and there appear to be four dials located along the front edge of the base.
Allright... I'll admit it...
When I clicked on the pic for Temple of the Golden Idol to have a closer look, in my mind the music was playing. Such a nostalgia hit.
Mission accomplished, Lego.
It appears Indy’s musette bag isn’t in Fighter Plane Chase. Presumably it was omitted to facilitate seating the minifigure in the vehicle, apparently the same reason the 2008-‘09 run left it out of 7198 and 20004. I wonder, though, whether it might be present in the set even though absent from most of the official images, as happened with 7196 the first time around - nearly every official image of the set including all but one of the pictures on the box omitted it, but it was still in the set.
Forgot to add to my original comment. Disappointed with the Luftwaffe pilot and Belloq minifigs. The latter wore short sleeves and boots in the movie, yet both details are missing. Considering Temple of the Golden Idol is an 18+ set, surely giving Belloq more detail is not too much to ask.

"What a time to be alive!"… for a film-franchise loving AFOL: this year, new sets based on Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are on shelves… I'm keeping my fingers crossed for another Back to the Future set!
It's a shame, though, that the Temple of Doom set has (probably) been cancelled. It's my least favourite Indy movie, but I would have liked to have some figures based on it…
Am I going crazy or is the new Harrison Ford/Indy face print kind of uncanny valley
@Huw:
The Temple of Doom cancellation article has had comments shut down, with the prospect of reopening them "in the morning" for around 24 hours at this point. Did you forget to reopen comments, or choose to leave them closed and forget to edit that part out?
I don't really understand the whole discussion about how the second indy film is racist or at least culturally offensive. The bad guys in the movie are based on a real-life cult that has been murdering innocent people for a long time in India. They are the bad guys in the movie, so it is natural that they are portrayed as bloodthirsty and evil beings. I also don't really understand the complaints about dinner in the palace - it's a hint that not everything in the palace is okay. This is not a mockery of Indian civilization and society - we see much less than 1% of India's population in the film, the film is an adventure narrative centered on one particular village and one palace that is controlled by evil forces. It is not a documentary about India and the social composition of its entire population.
Regarding Indy and the stealing of artifacts - the article (Why has 77014 The Temple of Doom been cancelled?) picks only part of the story and does not provide the whole picture - typical of today's busy times. After all, Indy Jones is not stealing ancient artifacts for himself, but he wants to preserve them forever for future generations by handing them over to a museum, because he knows that right behind him are dozens of "Belloqs" who want to sell the artifacts to private collectors or worse, dictatorial warmongers leaders.
I also have no idea why a nazi pilot would bother. That set is based on third party IP, based on movie, and in that movie the Nazis are enemies and bad guys (again). It's not like LEGO is offering a SS man nazi figure and have fun. It's not a set called "make your own Auschwitz" or anything like that. The Nazi pilot is trying to destroy our heroes - Indy and his father.

Yep. They had that in the original set too. No short sleeves or black boots for Belloq.
I agree, on the display set, should've made Rene more accurate. At least the short sleeves on the arms.
Wait. Is this the first minifig of Sean Connery? Most important part if so.
@davidredjoy:
No, he appeared in the original Indiana Jones theme.
Damn shame, The Temple of Doom set was the one I was looking forward too the most.
Probably gonna pick up Escape from the Lost Tomb and leave it at that.

"I think maybe Temple of Doom got canned because they just didn’t think it would sell well. "
Anything’s possible, but I think that particular possibility is less likely than most of the others.

"Anyone else think it’s odd we only have two sets compared to the dozen or so back when Crystal Skull came out? There also aren’t really sets for the new film. "
As others have noted, there are actually three sets here. There were sixteen boxed, retail sets for the 2008-2009 run, but they were released in four waves across those two years, not all at once in one huge deluge of LEGO Indiana Jones. The 2008 launch wave consisted of just four sets - the smallest being a vehicular chase from Last Crusade, and the others all being from Raiders, including both the trap-laden opening Chachapoyan temple and the snake-laden Well of Souls, so really this revival wave is actually remarkably similar to the original theme launch wave from January 2008. That was was followed a few months later by a larger, “new movie release” wave consisting entirely of sets from Crystal Skull, then the newest movie in the franchise (not dissimilarly to how they originally launched Indy’s older sibling franchise Star Wars back in 1999, or Toy Story in 2010, or the interrelated Middle-Earth themes back in 2012).
They may not have specifically said what they’re doing for Dial of Destiny, but I really don’t think they’d revive a long-dormant major licensed theme just a few months ahead of its franchise’s newest movie release and *not* do sets based on the new movie. I have to assume DoD sets are coming, just a little later.

Of course, this isn’t truly a minifigure of Sean Connery, but of Professor Henry Walton Jones, Sr. :p The character previously appeared in two sets from the original line, 7620 Indiana Jones Motorcycle Chase (like this set, the smallest set from the launch wave), and 7198 Fighter Plane Attack (like this set, a set depicting their pursuit by German fighters, albeit here from the latter part of the chase when they’d been forced to the ground).
All three of the previous Last Crusade sets portrayed vehicular chases from the film, two of them with Indy and his father hounded by by a German military vehicle; this set keeps that tradition alive, which is nice enough, but I really hope that if the line extends into another year as it did the last time around, they branch out a bit more, such as a big Grail temple.
Did anyone else notice Gali's mak in the Lost Tomb?
