Many LEGO set designers use our BrickLists feature to maintain a list of the sets they've worked on and often provide interesting insights about their involvement.

Once a week we publish an entry from one of their lists on the home page to increase awareness of this information and to encourage more designers to create them.

Antica Bracanov wrote this about their work on 41427 Emma's Fashion Shop:

Set #30

I love exploring architecture, shapes and layouts and it is my starting point when designing buildings. For this model I really wanted to do a corner building with a shop downstairs and a small, cozy, personal space upstairs. Roundness is one of the icons in the Friends universe but I like to mix it with classic shapes to get a more dynamic structure. I really like the shape of the building and those lovely stickers on the window that our graphics team made.
For this set we wanted to offer realistic dress-up play, which is why there are 2 textile skirts and 2 additional torsos that can be swapped around.

If you're a LEGO designer and you'd like to create a list of sets you've worked on but don't know where to start, get in touch!

Thanks to @essel for suggesting this feature.

The articles will be published on Monday mornings at 10am going forward, and the quote marks scaled down a bit!

I actually really like this, thanks Huw!

This is a great feature.

I was just looking through the sets designed by Bjarke Lykke Madsen and the accompanying notes. Some nice insights... Oh to be a LEGO designer - what a job!

Oh-hoo, the 'Home Alone'-set and that delightful Moving Truck as well. I will admit that this isn't quite the Friends-stuff I've come to like, but that's still an impressive CV. I regret that the Fussball-table didn't resonate as much with the audience as you might have liked, but I surely do respect the effort.

@Huw has certainly been busy with the suggestions box.

Nice feature, always interesting to get the designer's perspective; I always enjoy reading the interview articles.

Maybe this will prompt more designers to join in.

Cool. Nice insight.

By in Germany,

Guess what, it's my town's clothing boutique and on display for the last two years continously =) I just gave it LBG coloured pavement outside (the lavender looks like the decided to carpet the outside, too).

By in Slovenia,

Nice feature! Is there a way to look up all the designers and their models, not just this one? Like Designed by category?

Great idea! I love hearing from the designers of the sets. Thank you for incorporating this.

Hoping for more of these! It'd be great to read some insights from a Technic designer.

Designers' names are shown on set listings and the link at the end of this article shows all designers' BrickLists.

By in United Kingdom,

Some really excellent sets... and also some minidolls!
Will be an interesting series.

I didn't actually realise that BrickLists had additional notes for individual items until I viewed in 'List' mode. I normally view in 'Gallery' mode, but I'll delve deeper in future!

Fantastic idea and feature!

Is it possible to include the release year of the set being described in these articles? Especially for some of the long running themes like Friends, I at least find their ages interesting.

It comes up when you get the hover image from the highlighted set number in the article.

This an excellent idea. I love reading the designers' insights and it's great they will be more prominent. Thanks!

By in Panama,

Are there specific designers for each CMF? These are considered sets also, right?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is my first ever Friends set and it's pretty fantastic, leading me to buy way too many mini-doll sets afterwards.

Great idea and love these BrickLists. Glad to see it growing. Provides nice insight into the designers, Lego, and and the sets themselves. Hopefully it will continue to grow and more designers will jump on board and continue to add more info to their own lists. Great to have this in one spot to reference.

Helping us some way or another to get closer to Lego designers and their own personal creative processes is an excellent, excellent idea. Thank you.

By in Belgium,

Glad to see my suggestion was well-received, not only by @Huw, but other Bricksetters too!

I always find it fascinating to read designers' bricklists, as they provide incredible insight in the creation process, and help understand that some design choices are not the designers' ultimate responsibility, but lies with other partners. Hopefully this can help decrease the negative feedback that some designers get when sets are revealed.

(Nothing beats creators' own words, which is why I hate academic so-called interpretations/analyses of literary works which add 'meaning' to otherwise random words.)

By in Australia,

I found the Fashion Boutique to be one of Friends' best ever sets.

Could've used a roof on that second floor, though.

Here's hoping it inspires designers to fill out their existing Bricklists too, as many's the time I've been reading such a list (Including Antica's own!), only to see that some the sets just say something along the lines of, "Will fill this out more later."

It's on my to do list, I'll try to add the missing ones soon. :) I'm glad people take time to read through our descriptions though!

And how can you see the notes the designers have placed on their sets? I can't seem to view them, even if I open this specific set from Antica's own list. ^_^'

Click on the designer's name, that will take to their Bricklist.

You need to be in 'List' view in the BrickList. The notes aren't visible in 'Gallery' or 'Table' view.

Oh, and @_Galadriel_: I wasn't trying to call you out earlier, you've designed too many cool sets for me to do that! I do understand that you don't have as much time as you'd like (who does?), and I especially understand the sparse notes on the magazine gift sets, which are some of the simplest sets Lego's ever made. I don't think I've seen *any* designer go into any real detail on those.
