Random minifig of the day: sh333
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random minifigure is sh333 Magpie, a Super Heroes figure that came in one set, 70903 The Riddler Riddle Racer, released during 2017.
Our members collectively own a total of 8,566 of them. If you'd like to buy one you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $5.00.

While they look super awesome, I have no idea who this person is.
I assume they're just one of the Z-rated villains that are so prevalent in this theme.
Gorgeous figure. The LEGO BATMAN MOVIE line gave us some of the best minifigs EVER.
From the thumbnail image I knew I had this fig, took me a minute to remember from where
I’m often impressed at how they can print on a trapezoid to give the illusion of a waist. It’s not always successful, but this one is.
I own this. I'm half certain I bought the whole set just to get my hands on that torso to use for Mara Jade. I saw someone else do it, and I thought it was perfect.

It really did, i have the entire theme, its all fantastic.
Still mad they didnt finish the Superfriends tho. And no Batman Beyond... Coulda left out another Killer Moth.
Magpie is an odd duck in that she’s a Batman villain whose first appearance depicted her being defeated by Batman…in a Superman title. She died, got brought back as a Black Lantern, got rebooted (twice), got sent to Belle Reve, joined the Suicide Squad, and died again. An alternate version of her was a member of an alternate version of the Suicide Squad, in the prequel comics for the Injustice 2 game…and she died again.
@Randomness:
If a villain has only appeared in TLBM, Z-list is a safe bet. Although, Captain Boomerang was in that (he did get a non-TLBM minifig, too), but he’s a Flash villain. Anyways, I started reading comics just a few years after her debut issue, but I don’t think I ever heard of her until the Beware The Batman series.
Her gimmick is that she steals bird-themed jewelry (stepping on Penguin’s toes, there, which is probably what got her killed the first time), and replacing them with forgeries that have been booby-trapped in some manner. So, this encompasses the fact that magpies are the smartest of all birds, and have a reputation for being unduly attracted to shiny objects, but the trapped forgeries suggests a parallel to bird species that lay eggs in other birds’ nests, which magpies don’t do.
Slimmest waist ever in a minifigure?
Wow, I really regret not getting that set when I had the chance. I don’t think this fig was that well represented on the box art. I certainly was surprised to see where she came from.
@PurpleDave: Ah yes...IIRC, her 'first' appearance was in the Post-Crisis "Man of Steel" mini-series, rebooting Superman. In the issue, Supes in a 'Year One' type situation; tracks down Bats and tries to stop his vigilante-style justice. Through...persuasion (yeah, lets go with that:)) Bats prevents Supes from arresting him; and his him 'shadow' him (there's a switch:)) as Bruce works a case...involving Magpie. Too bad they didn't keep her glasses.:D
As for Boomerbutt (ah, that neeeever gets old), yes he's a 'Flash villain'...unless they (DC) needs him elsewhere. I mean, on CW; he initially was introed as an Arrow villain...'til Barry intervened...:)
Are all these random mini figs being pulled from the last ten years? These seem not very random

@Huw said that only minifigures from 2010 on would be eligible, since they are the most likely to have good quality images.
Shame her armor piece didn't see more use. Oh well, at least I also got it in gold, from 71011-6 !
@GSR_MataNui : Same here. I thought she looked familiar, then saw she'd been in 70903 , and thought, "Oh, I have that, so that's why she looks familiar!"
@ElephantKnight : I am very sad that Mara Jade has been removed from continuity, as she was maybe the EU character I wanted most as a minifig. (Except maybe Thrawn, but he got to stay canonical, so I got him as soon as 75170 rolled around!)

I'm completely unfamiliar with the character, so have no idea what she looked like with glasses on but I'll definitely agree with that, as I love a woman with specs appeal.
I really like this minifig. It shows her armor piece originally as a Chima part, which seems appropriate for her. It really adds to her slim stature. Fun TLBM set. Her face and hair piece remind of the baddie in "The Spy Who Dumped Me" when her character was portraying a model.
@TheOtherMike:...Well...ya' kinda' ask for it:

I forgot about her original haircut too...:D Still, can't always start on the best foot....also, it was 'the 80's':)
Lastly: I also own 'The Riddler's Racer'...actually, I have most of the vehicles from TLBM...still have to build "The Ultimate Batmobile", and put it on its back-bumper...long story.:)
That's a very cool looking minifig! She never popped from the catalog tho, I don't remember her at all from 2017 lego sets.

That incredibly elaborate mantle being used four times is a bit better than yesterdays incredibly elaborate helmet being used once, but does make me want to suit up a minifig in both just for the luxury of it all XD
@brick_r:
Ever see what Squirrel Girl looked like the first time she showed up? Batman had wrist-length gloves instead of gauntlets, and a cape that looked impossible, iceman looked like he’d been dipped in shorn wool, and Deadpool was kinda boring.

Iceman mostly looked like a diet-version of the Thing, who was equally lumpy at the time. Doctor Doom in his first appearance, wore a Lego Forestman-tunic before switching to his cool cape. The Hulk was grey, until they decided that green was just easier to print. And what about Groot, lovable Groot? Here, don't say I never got you anything:

I don't think we can blame Deadpool for his origins, he was "designed" by one of the worst hacks in comic history, like Cable before him. Fortunately, both Deadpool and Cable were rescued by more talented writers, otherwise they too might have ended up in the mass-grave of Wolverine-knockoffs along with 'Bloodfang', 'Wyldblood', 'Fangfang', 'Bloodshot', 'Deathdeath' or whatever Rob Liefeld's Magic Wheel of Plagiarism would have cobbled together that day.

If I remember rightly, I think that hairdo turned out to be a wig (I’m sure I’ve seen a scene of Batman pulling it off her); entirely possible it’s so over the top to distract you and keep her identity a bit more secret, same as the obnoxiously large glasses
Never noticed this fig before (there were SO MANY in TLBM), but she's a great assemblage of parts. I'm getting some Willa the Witch vibes from that dress part, the torso has been lauded already, and I love getting more hair in white. The armour piece and head are not too specific to find other uses either--a very well-rounded fig.
This is a great fig--it has great parts. And one of the reasons why I bought the set that she's in. That set also has a whopping 4 villains in it. The Riddler's car is so awesome! I love the construction of that car; it's a very clever build.

Well pointed.
$30 bucks for FIVE minifigs… modern licensed themes could take a lesson…!
The idea of 2017 not being "modern" just aged me into dust.
Magpie's hair in her first appearance was indeed a wig.
She was introduced in Man Of Steel 3 and was also in Batman 401, both November 1986 cover dates.
Captain Boomerang, as noted a Flash villain, was the villain in Batman 322 (310 was when the Ghost from Hawkman first fought Batman, both 310 and 322 were by Len Wein).
@brick_r:
Arrow borrowed in so many villains that, at times, it felt like they made a Batman series and just subbed out the main character. But Green Arrow has a fairly weak Rogues Gallery, and Batman has the strongest.
@unslipped:
To be fair, they had a metric crapton of characters to put in TLBM, thanks to a combination of all the Arkham villains, and all the crazy Batsuits, and there were only so many sets they could fit into the theme. At some point, they probably had to sit down with a list of unassigned minifigs and figure out what sets could accommodate them.
@kdu2814:
Oddly, both debuted in Flash titles. Boomerang was from the Barry Allen run of The Flash, and Gentleman Ghost came from Flash Comics (Jay Garrick)…but so did Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and Black Canary. It sounds like his first story did pit him against the Hawks.

They made a Minifigure of me? (Minus the Minecraft head)

Sigh. Those were the days. down here your average liscenced 45-50$ set would only come with about two minifigs. Looking back at the lego batman movie (my personal favourite of the Lego cinematic universe), they had some of the best lego sets with the best minifigs for some reasonable prices!
