Three new Technic sets announced!
Posted by CapnRex101,
The summer Technic range is usually released in August, but it seems two sets will arrive earlier this year, as 42157 John Deere 948L II Skidder and 42158 NASA Mars Perseverance Rover have been revealed by JB Spielwaren!
Both sets contain well over 1000 pieces and I am impressed with 42158 NASA Mars Perseverance Rover in particular, coming twenty years after 7471 Mars Exploration Rover.
Update: 42162 Bugatti Bolide Agile Blue has now been revealed on LEGO.com too. Following the alternative colour pilot program a couple of years ago, this is another version of 42151 Bugatti Bolide and features dark azure panels, rather than yellow.
View these sets after the break...
42157 John Deere 948L II Skidder
- 1492 pieces
- £169.99, $199.99, €189.99
42158 NASA Mars Perseverance Rover
- 1132 pieces
- €94.99
42162 Bugatti Bolide Agile Blue
- 905 pieces
- £44.99, $49.99, €49.99
Doubtless more Technic sets will be released in August, but these are expected on the 1st of June.
Which of these sets interests you the most? Let us know in the comments.

I guess Perseverance isnt *actually* anything different from Technic's usual fair, being yet another licensed vehicle, but it still feels like a step towards a refreshing change of pace for a theme sorely in need of some refreshing
I realy like the mars rover:)
I realy want to know what the funtions are.
I'm not much of a technic guy, but that rover set is a beauty.
The rover looks great!
Too bad it can't be remote controlled (at least that's what it looks like) but you get an AR experience. Another case of a "play feature" which requires you to have a phone and some app that won't work properly anymore in some years time.
The structure of the legs makes it difficult to integrate motor functions and would bump up the price, but I really hope someone will find a way to make it RC compatible!
On one hand love NASA based sets and was hoping they would do perseverance, on the other I generally dislike technic sets but I think I'll still get this.
Finally a friend for one of my all time favourites: 7471!
I still cannot understand why that set seemingly sold so poorly as I remember buying both of my copies (Spirit and Opportunity, obviously) for at least 50% off...
And with this, they've pretty much finished remaking the 2002 Discovery sets (yes I know it's a different rover but it's the spiritual (hah) successor. )

Exactly this. I promised myself I wouldn't splurge on any more sets for a while, but that's yet another lie I'll have to live with."
I'm distinctly NOT a technic guy. Yet, I wholeheartedly agree. That rover might get me to cross over to the Dark Side!
Deere John, that 948L-II is a beast!
Bit out of scale with 42136 though.
That John Deer is insanely priced. Are the pneumatic valves made from pure silver?
the John Deere seems a little expensive...
Perseverance is looking great!
And it's an obvious choice in hindsight, but it's so nice that they included Ingenuity too.
Love the rover. Might put it on the list, but Technic was never my thing to begin with.

Well, mahoosive claws don't come cheap.
Didn’t spot the pneumatics initially on the John Deere, but my first impression said there’s a 60 euro set. Even knowing the more expensive parts are there now, I’m baffled.
The Rover is glorious! Day 1 purchase for me!
Finally Technic line makes something other than a car. I know it's still a vehicle, but, dare I say it, this one is out of this world. Can't wait to see it's mechanics in action!
Why not show USD?
FINALLY something intresting from technic.
Now give me technic animals.
I need perseverance

You already have perseverance. You just need to keep going!
not sure how well known it is.... but NASA had a program where you could sign up and have your name put on a micro chip that was installed on the rove before launch. both of my kids have their names on this so now I have to buy it..... LOL
42158 will make a nice big brother to set 21104. Looks like this rover has the 4-wheel steering function on the authentic rover. Looking forward to this set!
A new pneumatics set is always good!
Finally, a follow-up to 7471
Ugh licensed sets, though I kinda wanna give that rover a pass. That Harvester seriously could've just been unlicensed and it would've probably sold better due to a smaller price tag.
I wonder what Mark Rober's thoughts are on the Perseverance Rover...
Best LEGO Reveal day YET! Mars rover is the first technic set to catch my eye in a while
No rover on Polish site. But there is blue version of Bugatti Bolide

It's a skidder, not a harvester!
Love that they made the rover wheels!
Perseverance is neat, and seems priced pretty well for the size!
The skidder is a cool set, but I agree with some of the other folks here that it seems way too expensive, even with pneumatics. I'll have to wait for more pictures (maybe the official press release) to make up my mind on that.

"Am I seeing gold stickers on a black brick on that drone, instead of gold printing or simply a gold-colored brick?? This is ridiculous"
If so, that would be accurate to the insulation system...
Neat, not my area but neat.
Look at that rover! Day 1 purchase <3
Honestly why are the pneumatics so so expensive??
I never got any of the previous Mars rover sets, although all three are on my wanted list, and I do have a Hot Wheels Mars rover (cant remember which one), so I'm definitely planning to get 42158. As for the other, I actually had to look up what a "skidder" was in this context. The set looks cool, and I do love pneumatics (even if I only have two sets with the function), but it's a bit expensive, so I'll probably give it a pass.

IDK if the license has much to do with it--the previous Deere set was over 400 pieces for $35.
@rgeiger:
I wanted to buy that rover, but I was knee-deep in Bionicle sets with a dash of Star Wars in those days, and earning a lot less than I am now. I also wanted the Cuusoo rover, but it was sold out before I even knew it had launched.
@LegoDad_itsforme_:
Probably not well-known. I have the Biff/Sandy minifigs, I know of the LoMartians that went to space, but this I’d not heard. Maybe if it had some sort of LEGO tie-in…
@TheOtherMike:
I think I have at least two different version from Hot Wheels. One I know for sure I got was a Pathfinder/Sojourner 3-pack. It had the entry shield capsule, which you could open and there was a tiny fold-up Pathfinder lander (I think it was small enough to fit on a 4x4 plate). It had a larger Pathfinder that you could unfold to reveal a tiny Sojourner (maybe twice the size of a minifig roller skate). And it had a Sojourner that was about the size of a standard Hot Wheels car, so it basically represented all the basic steps of the mission after it reached Martian orbit. I got one pack to open, and one to keep sealed. I _think_ I’ve bought at least one other Hot Wheels Mars rover, but I have no idea which rover it’s based on, or what format it was produced in.
Oh, I did get 7469, and the matching Apollo mission set. Those were affordable enough that I couldn’t pass them up.
Mars rover is amazing, very rarely to technic sets catch my eye, but this one has done it.
So the Mars Rover is a must-buy for me, no question, and if I had room and the cash I'd be pretty tempted by the John Deere. I own the smaller scale John Deere tractor, and this looks like it's roughly in scale with the Class Xerion, so it'd fit in my collection.
@PurpleDave :
If you get a chance to obtain 7471 , do it. It is an awesome set if you are interested in space exploration. It's also a very decent set function-wise if you like Technic. I bought three of the sets back then when I was a student. I sold one MISB, which I now regret. It also needs some work to update the rocker bogie suspension. I thought I had some pictures of the mods in my Brickshelf gallery, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Anyways, if you have the chance, buy it. The same goes for 21104 .
Is anyone else confused that Lego completely just copied and pasted the Bugatti bolide from the start of this year but just in blue instead of yellow? The worst part is that it has the exact same render and stickers.
@Knightmares:
Were you unaware of when they turned 10271 into 77942, or 31058 into both 77940 and 77941?
