Expecto Plutonium!

By in Brazil,

I'm not a fan of HP but I will definitely get 76414. It is very beautiful.

On other hand, that Dobby set is so blocky that looks like a set from the 2001 wave.

By in United States,

The Porg, Yoda, Grogu, Baby Groot, and now Dobby. I'm going to have a whole closet full of these cursed brick built buddies that will make even the Ed and Lorraine Warren jealous.

By in Hungary,

Does the deer/stag build has a moving function or it's just a stationary build?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Expecto Patronum needsa an otter option. Ah, well.

I wish the Advent Calendar constituted "summer wave" if only because they tend to show up by late August anyway, and as usual, there's been leaks by now.

Lastly, I hope that somebody does a breakdown of that Instagram photo of the combined Hogwarts that can be completed with 76415 , because the photos I've found are blurry enough that I can't quite make out what modular parts go where. (See https://en.hothbricks.com/lego-harry-potter-the-other-version-of-hogwarts/)

By in Brazil,

I want 76415 but that ppp is worse than Star Wars.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Ridgeheart ok, straight to jail for putting that idea in the world.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What did Harry Potter do to get sets this high quality, I want like half of them but I’ll also wait until they’re on Bricklink or eBay or something, preferably at a lower than market value price.

The 2001 wave? Not enough arches, too filled in and too much SNOT for that. And going by his first 2002 appearance he would have been entirely in tan. And the eyes and mouth weren't printed either.

Come to think of it, let's be glad he doesn't actually look like a set from the 2001 wave. That figure is nightmarish enough in minifig scale, so an upscaled version would be unimaginably terrifying.
This set could have been much worse...

Is this LEGO's very first brick-built indentured servant? Or do droids in STAR WARS count?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

A lot of good looking sets there. Really like tha playable Quidditch one... but Dobby... no, thats just a clunky ugly set.

While they "appear" to be static that black supporting post makes me wonder. Given the Tallneck and the reliance on joints and fixed standing position you would think this would be the same case if stationary. A closer look at hoof/ground connection (or lack of) makes me wonder if the limbs can actually swing back and forth. But then you would think they would advertise such a feature.
Guess we will have to wait a bit more

I didn't realize Harry could summon a robot stag. That's cool!

Not really interested in Dobby or Diagon Alley but will definitely get the others.
Might even read/watch Harry Potter one day!

Ernie McMillan had a boar Patronus, but in the case of the set that is supposed to be a wolf, which is Lupin’s

Are those trans-clear wand adapter pieces hexagonal? Such a strange piece with a uniquely sized connection point for the System (I assume, as wands taper to be pretty thin)

That picture is about the same as the one I linked. I get which sets go in there; the arrangement is just a little confusing. Maybe it'll make more sense once I have the final addition. (Doesn't help that three sets have been excluded--Encounter with Fluffy, and the bonus Griffindor Bedroom and the Grand Staircase. I may just have to stick them on the side.)

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Hogwarts Express looks nice. Not big on the grey roofs on the passenger coaches though. I do like how we get two this time.

I may be wrong, but I believe the adapters are moulded onto the wand so it's a singular piece

Possibly, Anakin was a minifigure (as an example). However, I don't think he was made to seem quite as "cute" as this figure of Dobby, which makes this brick-built set even creepier.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@BricksAhoy:
I couldn’t tell from the earlier images, but better resolution on the box image helps. Voldemort’s looks very distinctly hexagonal, and Harry’s sorta looks the same. It appears the business end is a recessed stud, and all I can tell about the other side is a tapered wand can be plugged into it.

As neat as the wands have been, they have two major flaws. One is that the handle gets chewed up really easily (this is partly to blame on the sharp edges on minifig fingers not being designed to work well with softer plastics like PE, sometimes resulting in the fingertips cutting into the surface of a soft bar instead of allowing it to pop into the palm). The other is that practically nothing would attach to the wand tip. I mean, you can wad up a rubber band, and there are probably a few pieces they’ve produced that will accidentally connect, but it’s not designed to have a standard connection.

The tip has a modest enough taper that it should be possible to get a compression fit on it, as long as there’s a ridge or solid wall to block it from going in too far (old 1x1 cones could pop Technic beams open if pushed in too forcefully).

@Unangazord:
I see only four instances of minifigs with wand effects (Harry vs Voldemort, and both Harry and Lupin casting Patronus charms). I can identify 11 minifigs that are holding plain wands. We can’t see the most important bit (the tip of a wand that has a wand effect base), but I can’t see any obvious differences. One thing I do see, however, is that Lupin appears to be using Harry’s wand to cast his Patronus, since the dormant wand he’s holding in the lower right corner of the box back is a lighter color than the one he’s using in the image of the wolf Patronus. The clear part is also absent from the inset that shows all the wand effect shapes. I really hope you’re wrong, because they’ve produced the wand in eight colors, and I only see two with wand effects attached.

Good to know. Presumably, it would have to be a sturdier connection.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@StyleCounselor:
The flower stems look like they're the same diameter as hatpins, like they use for feathers that are inserted into hats. The wand tip is definitely not that narrow. if there has been any part released so far that will connect securely to the tip of a wand, it's purely coincidental prior to this new element.

Also, good to know. Based on your professed past history of trying to MOC with these, I assume you are the authority.

Like @PurpleDave said, it's too thick to make a connection at all, so sturdiness isn't the issue..

Gravatar

That patronus set is the best space robot animal since that giraffe from Super Robot Dinosaur Hunter.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@StyleCounselor:
I've not really tried to do much with the wands, but there is one problem I ran into with them. I built Hagrid's motorcycle, and at one point I used to display it with Harry and Voldemort dueling each other in midair. To depict the magical energy, I took the original dragon flames in orange and green, linked them together in a spiral, and used cones in the same colors to attach them to the ends of 3L bars for wands. When the new wands came out, I switched to those because they looked so much better, but I was never able to find anything that could actually attach to the tip. I've seen both the old and new sprue used in several MOCs, with or without the wands attached, and I've seen the loose wands used as well, but I've never run across any instance where someone had figured out a way to attach them to anything except by the handle. So for as long as I've had Harry holding a proper wand, I've been unable to display Voldemort with them.

Gravatar
By in United States,

There doesn't seem to be any references on the box of the Hogwarts Express that I can see so far that informs us it can be motorized. Which is a huge missed opportunity, a Hogwarts Express that can be motorized has been a huge demand for a long time. I mean sure, you can mod it yourself, no doubt someone will create the instructions. But it would be nice if this was the default because those instructions usually involve buying alot more extra parts.

This is a *freed* Dobby since he's holding the sock, so, no, not a set representing servitude.

Any chance there'll be another HP GWP this summer? I've been holding out on getting some of the newer sets just in case. A Gryffindor common room to connect the staircase and dormitory sets would be nice.

Not comfortably, no. It'd really have a ton of friction in the corners, slowing it down.(If it didn't just derail, first.)

I wonder if it’s possible to mount that center wheel set so it can slide maybe half a stud to either side.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can't wait to get them all. Granted due to budget constraints I still haven't got the winter wave, so hopefully one day I can complete my collection.

And I actually really like the Dobby set. He looks significantly cuter than the real Dobby, so it has that going for it. It will go on my shelf with Grogu and Yoda and the Porg.

It is possible. I bought MRS-1 diesel loco instructions from Anthony Sava, and they used the wheels as you describe. I believe in the LEGO train world it was first designed by a guy called 'Swoofty' (that was the designer's online handle). It's a design over a decade old - Sava's pictures on Flickr are from 2011, and it seems relatively new then.

By in United Kingdom,

You can't see it here but 76416 has a similar amount of minifigure head and hair parts to the Hogwarts trunk from last year, including a lot of diverse and rare face prints.

I still feel like last years trunk set was a better deal with six full minifigures though - this Quidditch trunk set should have also come with Hooch and Lee Jordan the commentator instead of just the four Quidditch players

You joke, but now you're obligated to buy a copy and figure out how to add a cockpit to that stag, so Harry Potter can pilot it. And then buy a second copy and do the same thing for Lupin with the wolf.
