City and Friends images added to LEGO.com
Posted by Huw,
LEGO has added pictures of the new City and Friends sets to LEGO.com today, which just about completes the June lineup.
Both of the popular themes will be available in the UK, Europe and the antipodes from June 1st, while those of you in North America will have to wait a little longer until August for the City sets to be released.
This query shows most of the sets that are due for release in the next few months, and of course you can view all the forthcoming sets revealed so far on the coming soon page at LEGO.com. (I do wish that page would show the date of release!)
Take a look at a couple of the most anticipated sets, 60380 City Centre and 41748 Heartlake City Community Centre after the break, and let us know which sets you're looking forward to the most in the comments.

August? Well that's a bummer.
I thought for a hot second that the City Center set WAS a Friends set!
That's a good thing.

The crosswalk?
love the occasional vocabulary lessons on this site!
I hate that they delay the city sets in NA every year now. So frustrating.

What do you dislike about it?
60380 almost feels... sci-fi. Or utopian. It's on the brink between reality and the future, and I think that's kinda cool!
Is that a new doggo in the City Centre?
Ooh I love how City Centre allows for a bit of customisation for the road and buildings.

"Oh no, I have perceived colours, this is somehow a problem"
Just replace them with 2x4 tiles if they bother you. Good lord. It's not even a rainbow.
Everyone knows the most anticipated set is 41757 - Botanical Gardens.
One other annoying thing about the Coming Soon listing on the Lego site is that it doesn't show the sets that are listed as Pre-Order able.
The dog in city centre set is the same one as in 60291 from a couple of years ago @sipuss

The doge made his debut in 2021 in the family city house.
For the city centre I'm thinking... replace the road with track and run a train thru. Looks like there's enough clearance to the connection walk thru tunnel.
The community centre looks like a nice set. I'm not so sure about the city centre though. It just seems a weird set for a play set. It is not modular quality for adults but also not a typical play set for kids, but some weird hybrid that doesn't quite work for me.
Wow, these CAD prices sky rocketed for this summer batch... I don't remember a non-train City set going for $260 before tax.

Maybe they have Mario Kart PTSD.
60380 is called "Downtown" at Lego.com (UK site).
I think 60377 dive boat and 60363 Ice Cream Shop are the ones I'm most looking forward too, funnily. Priced so I'm almost certain to get them. A lot of other nice sets but it could get very spendy very quickly.
I work on the fourth floor of my company's office building - I wish we had a slide between floors like this Friends building. ;-)

I recommend logging off to avoid colorful toys.
Anyway, these are excellent-looking sets! LEGO has really been stepping up their game this year—although it's unfortunate that doing so, in turn, also results in higher prices.
41737 Beach Adventure Park has way more moving parts than I thought, nice.
I've just realised that 60380 is modular. Nice.
I really don't like the City Centre. I'm a 42 year old AFOL, so I recognize and acknowledge that I'm not the demographic that this set is aimed at, and I also acknowledge that the play-ability of this set is likely quite high.
For me it's just too juvenile in appearance with just too many colours, even as a child I wouldn't have liked this appearance, but then I was a weird kid.
The price for a non-licensed City set is also eye watering.
I didn't see the "rainbow" crosswalk in the original photos, but I am glad to see its inclusion in the set as many cities and even small towns in real life do have a rainbow crosswalk.
One of the best things about recent City sets has been the move to increase diversity and inclusion, so a big thumbs up for that.
Excluding trains with motors etc., I wonder is this the first City set to cost $200? Although for $140 I prefer the Friends set as the outside seems more modular and the inside more playable.
The modularity of City Center seems like a great playability upgrade for those kids that prefer to play scenarios rather than just build with bricks. It's much better thought out than previous attempts in City line.

The sets I most anticipate are in the Dreamzzz-line, but yeah - the Botanical Gardens knock all of City out of the park. That set is going to be the tipping point for a lot of people, I feel."
Yeah - if the MOC I'm working on doesn't kill my Lego budget for the rest of the year, Botanical Gardens will be my first friends set (apart from the advent calendar I bought for my girls to use to enhance my winter village).
It's interesting that the City sets seem to be converging with the friends set with their new emphasis on bright colors.

60271 : Main Square was $200 in US and honestly , I vastly prefer this new set , and overall focus on seperating Buildings and Vehicles.
There's a lot of messy hair in that city center (centre, pardon me). And it's clear why! The only guy with a hairbrush appears to strike horror upon others.

Maybe NOT is an acronym? Nice Orange Tiles?

@Bobflip said: "What do you dislike about it?"
Personally I dislike it 'cause it reminds of the typical fake and pointless symbolism acts that cities do to appear as "diverse" and "inclusive". Like how my town gets covered in rainbow flags around this time every year, but has *NO* gay clubs or similar meeting places.
Also, a one-way crosswalk? I feel that says something subtle about how the whole "PC" ideology is supposedly about diversity while it actually seeks conformity.
It's a bit of the same with the random patches of bike paths, it reminds me of how they in Oslo built short stubs of bike path here and there (basically wherever they cold shoehorn it in) just so they could brag about having built X km of paths. It was only the total length that mattered, it was less important if they made up a connected (ie. usable) system or if they were a downright hazard, by for instance ending without warning and sending cyclists straight into heavy oncoming traffic.
And as others have said, the architecture is mostly cheap, neo-modernist garbage, the set would've been much better with more sections like the vet/barbershop - it's probably too much to hope for a similar "Old Downtown" set later.
While I guess "gentrified normietown" IS a significant step up from "dystopian hellhole", I still think City has some way to go before becoming a genuinely nice place.
First we had modular sets in Ninjago, then Marvel, and now we have modular sets in both city and friends? They look very cool and all, but the age that city and friends is aimed at can't afford any of this? Who knows... maybe in a few years we'll get a modular of the coruscant jedi temple or something!
Speaking of official images, does anyone have anymore news about the 5th Sonic the Hedgehog set of the death egg robot? It was teased in the anouncement trailer but we've not got any new information as far as I can tell...

Yep, that's the first Friends set I've looked at and said, "Well, I gotta have that."
A little idea is sparking in my mind for the Best. School. Ever. with some sort of mashup of 41731 (Heartlake International School), 41748 (Heartlake City Community Centre), 41744 (Sports Centre), and a throw back to 41425 (Olivia's Flower Garden) and/or 41307 (Olivia's Creative Lab) to STEM it up a bit more. Whatchya think? What sets would you use to make an awesome school/college setting?
Aaaaaargh! Why do they keep making me want to buy Friends sets?!! That water park is so good. Ugh. There's just too many good sets.

"Blood will flow when you hit start, for all is fair in love and Kart."
But if it's not the Kart-PTSD - which I could understand - then maybe just replace the tiles with grey ones. And the bricks with grey ones. And the people with grey ones. Or gray ones. Everything's awesome, my dude.
Well, maybe not bigotry, but surely we're above such things."
Let's HOPE so!! The further scary thing is the 12 people who liked the inane comment. Are they really so threatened by color and diversity?!
These two sets look fantastic. The City Centre looks as though it could have been lifted straight out of Cyberpunk 2077... in an alternate universe where everything was peaceful! And it feels like the Friends set could be easily integrated with the City one in any display.
I'm not one who builds playsets (I'm more of a vehicles kind of guy) but I really like them both.
Don't like these at all. Someone else commented about the weird mix between modern and futuristic, I hate it.
It's a real shame because the I think it was called City Centre set from a couple years back with the pizzeria and carwash was good. You had a nice older building (which are VERY rare in City), and then a more modern carwash and some nice vehicles.
What kind of city even is this? Singapore had buildings a teeny tiny bit like these (and that's a stretch), but definitely not with all the stupid colours.
I also don't like the rainbow/coloured pedestrian crossing. You can argue about colour, or politics, but my main concern is that it's not easy to change. Those triangle pieces are quite difficult to get in any colour, let alone grey. Also, what is wrong with a normal black and white pedestrian crossing???
I am happy to see the cap being used, and the trenchcoat print is nice, along with the shirt and tie. Would be nice to see more suits but this is okay.
And at the end of the day, regardless of one's thoughts on the architecture (I think it looks horrid), look at the price. How exactly is a child supposed to afford this, or are parents going to justify this purchase? For this amount of money you could buy a child a police and fire station, and some aeroplanes, and a whole bunch of other sets. Indeed it would be better value just buying a regular modular building.
Is that a Heroica boardgame I spot at the Community Centre?! <3
I definitely take the crosswalk’s (not actually a rainbow) geometric color pattern as like a visual signifier of “Hey, you’re in an exciting trendy part of the city! We’ve put planning into tying all this development together into a cool place to come out to, and we’re arting up mundane things like crosswalks to squeeze in even more fun”
Which yes could be psychological tricky to get the citizens to come out here and spend, and maybe it was thrown together shoddily and will fall apart in a couple years
But why would you decide that’s what you’re looking at?
Can like… public projects that are new and flashy not get people out and give them a jolt of excitement?
The little lego Kids who go there will like share that crosswalk art as “only 2023 kids know” And they’ll all feel the nostalgia
It’s like it can be stimulating to throw in novel visual interest into a community area. And it might need refreshing as the decades go on but narratively they can and in reality as a building kit so can the owner
I dunno. I don’t get the grumpy haters of having a visually popping place represented here. It’s kind of a turn I was hoping city was taking back when I saw 60291
And like the lego city space program is ahead of real world projects
Why not have a kids toy that inspires about the near future? Represent what’s on the cusp, and you can inspire kids into urban planning and engineering and things where they make the new and shiny that keeps our “we’re doing exciting things, us people” feelings filled up
Bloody hell. If we’re at a point where a city adding a splash of colour – and in this case, in a toy set aimed at children – is somehow seen as a political signifier, we are in trouble.
I’ve seen loads of crossings along these lines. Their function is decorative. And this is… Lego. Is there no reason why the triangular pieces can’t be replaced by grey rectangular tiles, or am I missing something?
As for the sets, I don’t like the price but that’s how things are now. I do like the designs. They are different from what’s been before and provide scope for children to be creative. That’s a win in my book.
Like them both but do not plan to buy as it would not fit my modular city.
I find the road parts in the city set interesting. Plenty of ideas around the new road system. I will surely look at the instructions when they are available.
On the subject of bike lanes, is it that shallow in Europe or is it just a Lego concept? The bike path I know here are about half or maybe a third of the road width.

if you are smart, you take four 2x2 triangles out, and replace them with one 2x4 tile - so easy to get.
as a bonus, you get 10 grey and 10 other colours of hard-to-get triangles to do whatever you like - maybe sell it to some challenged person who would like to have an all-grey-but-yet-triangulated crossing, or one in full glory of colours?
Thanks for posting! It’s cool to see the interiors of these sets.
I just checked the coming soon page, and it says that 60377 is $39.99 in the US. For 182 pieces, $29.99 (my assumed price) seemed a bit high, but it looks like I’ll be turning to Bricklink for the new turtle.

This 2023 City system reminds me the most of what LEGO also called Modular during 2017-2018 Creator 3-in-1 line, as it also had 8x8 and 8x16 sized "modules" to remove/re-arrange/stack.

Definitely plan to pick up a couple of these to make a larger Botanical Garden.
I dislike the crosswalk because now everyone will be tempted to play "Twister" in the middle of the road, and cause untold traffic catastrophes!

Exactly like that article! Thanks heaps!
41748 is such a gorgeous stack of bricks. It's the perfect cross between modular and Friends. That mural; it would be amazing to see something similar show up on the side of a modular, I wouldn't mind if it was a sticker. Like something "postcard style"
