Fun fact: the only updates to this figure than the one released way back in 1986 is the helmet and leg’s being medium stone grey instead of the original grey color and the torso logo is different

Did a double take when I saw the figure, then figured it was from 10305. I'd forgotten about that set, partially because I didn't get it. I'd forgotten about the little "Classic Minifigure" series, as I only got 5003082, and that series was almost ten years ago.

I wish we would get some genuinely old figures ever picked.

So do I, but as I understand it, RMfotD only selects figures released since 2010. I don’t know why.

The images of minifigs pre 2010 are incredibly varied in regards to quality. Huw decided it would be best to start at a 10 year maximum requirement from the beginning of RMotD.

Coconut half-'shells' not included...

Castle was my third-place/bronze-holder after Space and (then) Town...but fast-forward a few years, they kinda' 'blended' into a setting sort of like a superhero universe (even creating a few them too:)).

Emmet Brickowski: Uh...is this Cloud Cuckoo Land? I don't see any clouds, or cuckoos.
Vitruvius: No, no. This is Middle Zealand. A wondrous land full of knights, castles, muttons, torture weapons, poverty, leaches, illiteracy, and um...
Emmet Brickowski: DRAGONS!!!
Vitruvius: Yeah, that too.

It's kind of a shame - we miss so many good themes...

If you'll forgive the shameless self-promotion, I've got a User Suggestion about expanding the RMotD. Number 757. Only one supporter who isn't me, right now.

From yesterday:

@Murdoch17:
I beat all the Year 1 stuff (excluding collectibles that required Year 2 powers), but I really don’t remember that.

@Ridgeheart:
My older brother hadn’t even been conceived yet. I’m old enough to remember when Star Wars was Just Star Wars, but not old enough to have made it through my first viewing without falling asleep.

@Blondie_Wan:
I think one thing that helped kill Dimensions prematurely was the launch of the Switch, a home console that you could take with you as a handheld. You can’t play Dimensions while walking down the street, because there’s no place to set the portal base, and nowhere to store all the characters and accessories.

And I kinda stalled out during the first or second wave of Year 2, but I bought at least one of each pack (including a PS4 Starter I didn’t need just to get the most powerful character in the game).

Red Dwarf has not been licensed by WB. From what I read, they did have a preexisting license to use the Daleks from Doctor Who, if not the entire IP.

I realise he’s from a reissue but it’s great seeing such an iconic minifig in this, hard to get more classic than a crusader knight. Did Lego do this kind of initiative for any other theme, are there remade classic Space figs waiting in the wings for example?

There's a pirate one and a classic space one @Brickalili - I have the space one and this one.

I do like the ballista, and this made me think it would be nice to have castle return (I didn't collect it originally - I have no idea why). Now look what we have a decade later...

I'll take this opportunity to say Happy Father's Day to all dads and 'dad adjacent' people on Brickset - may you enjoy building with your offspring today!

I know it's just a classic smiley face, but this chap really looks a happy chappy! A very cheerful fellow :)

Great minifigure from a great Lego theme!

There have been several reissues of classic Spacepeople over the years, most of them using a version of the helmet-mould that was introduced in the nineties for Futuron. We wouldn't get proper re-issues of the old helmets until around the time of the Lego Movie, with Benny's cracked version being the prototype.

70841 gave us a nice selection of spacepeople, including a new pink one. It had Benny's cracked helmet, but 71708 had an uncracked version so you could make a classic blue spacedude.

10497 gave us a reissue of the red spacedude to go along with his friends, above. Between https://brickset.com/sets/71032-11/Space-Creature in CMF22 and https://brickset.com/minifigs/hol319/lunar-new-year-parade-participant-male-red-tang-shirt-dark-purple-legs-space-helmet-and-air-tanks (plus any pair of purple arms and a classic smiley face), you've got your secret purple spacedude, CMF24 gave us https://brickset.com/sets/71037-3/Brown-Astronaut-and-Spacebaby and https://brickset.com/sets/ISBN9780241409695-1/LEGO-Minifigure-A-Visual-History gave us an orange spacedude.

You can make most of a classic green spacedude using the minifigs that came in 21109, but there is no accompanying classic-styled helmet in green. CMF17's https://brickset.com/sets/71018-13/Rocket-Boy has a classic light grey spacedude-torso, but there's no helmet to go with it, and there might not be a bley set of airtanks either. Lastly, one of the upcoming Dreamzzz-sets has a classic helmet plus airtanks in black, but there is no updated black spacedude-torso (that I know of).

By in United States,

I remember when this little dude and his set were released--around the low point of my LEGO-buying. I very much wanted it, but did not get it. If I had known then the glut of nostalgic remakes we'd be getting, I think I'd not have minded as much.

The reason I wanted him is that my first Castle sets--and Castle has always been a favoured theme--included 6081 and 1463. Considering their age, those sets are in pretty good condition, but getting a new entry to that theme (something I'd not had a shot at since getting the 10000 Guarded Inn in 2001) was exciting. You can imagine that 10305 was as much a must-get when it was released as a $400 set can be.

Grey pants on this fellow doesn't feel as "right" to me as red hips-and-black legs, or just straight blue pants, but it has historical precedent, and some diversity in your medieval armies is arguably a good thing if you want a couple more fig leaves of historical plausibility.

See, if they’re using the later 90s helmet piece I’d argue they’re not really reissues, they’re homages or callbacks. Same goes for Benny himself really; the guy in the article is using all the same parts and patterns and would fit in seamlessly with actual 80s/90s knights while Benny’s modern face and deliberately scuffed logo would make him stand out.
That said, the yellow and white guy from the Space Squad and the red ones from the updated Galaxy Explorer look like they’d fit in pretty well with the original crowd

Yet this image is lower quality than the vast majority of older figure pictures.

He also has the newer torso mold (post 1997) with the cross supports. Also, mine at least did not feel as shiny as usual, more like the early CMF torsos and similar ones from the first years of chinese minifig torsos.

Well. Yeah. Which is why I only listed the ones that have the updated classic space-helmet, which is basically the old, old, old helmet (only not as flimsy). Exception being the green and grey ones, which don't have their equivalent yet. For those, we're still stuck with the integral-helmets.

No one's arguing this, my guy.

Just calling back to your first paragraph where you mentioned them. Not really arguing, just discussing. And trying to strike a contrast between the actual redone helmet that everyone else in the Space Squad wears and the deliberately retro “cracked” one that Benny himself wears

I got all three of these sets, but still haven't opened any of them. Two should still be sealed, but one of them had a tape tab that wasn't properly centered, and popped open before it had even arrived.

By in Canada,

If you have this set sealed in the package so you can’t access it, do you really have it?

Schrödinger's Set? How can you truly know it's in there, if you haven't opened the outer package?
