More images from Nuremberg

Posted by ,

A lot more images from the German toy fair have surfaced overnight on flickr.

Several AFOL websites have done a good job of providing commentary on them all so I'll just provide you with links to them rather then repeat it all verbatim here:

Neoape -- Arctic, Creator bike shop, trains, Technic Volvo
TheBrickFan -- Ultra Agents, Friends, Ninjago
TheBrickFan -- Legends of Chima

See what I mean about the Chima? It's weird... :-)

@ Theopylos: They are on the Neoape link.
Chima looks weird, but the exception is the Phoenix temple. That looks pretty sweet. Also, the mammoth walker looks like an AT-AT.

The Phantom is bigger than I expected.

The Arctic stuff looks good too.

Where are Hobbit sets?

If Lego made that mammoth, why not an Oliphant?

Chima looks awesome. It seems kinda steampunk. So how many tribes now? 16?

The Chima Sets look Epic! :D, I really hope they'll be available in June instead of August, but I guess Argos will get them in July :)

Also that Tiger minifigure looks Awesome,I also really like those Phoenixes ;)
Is Li'ella a Lioness?, I really can't think what else it could be :P:)

Instead of steampunk, we can call it CHIMPUNK! And if they add a chipmunk tribe, we can call it chipmunk CHIMPUNK!:) it looks like agents have been using chi too with the trans blue detail.

Wow, those chima sets look fantastic. I like seeing that they took some risks with the styling, I think the risks really paid off.

I was excited about the bike shop/cafe but for $90 that looks .... disappointing. Love the dog sled team from the arctic sets though.

I think the presence of the Mammoth is a good indicator that we will see an Oliphant soon. I am very excited about the Chima stuff, but mostly because of parts. I think the Cafe/ Bike Shop will go nicely with the other modular buildings as transitional sections. Very cool.

Chima's weird? Now you're catchin' on!

If anthro/tribal warriors wasn't enough, maybe anthro/zombie warriors would be better.
I have to say that Chima has surprised me. It has reportedly done as well as any normal action theme (the expectation of being the next Ninjago shadowed that fact) and has managed to peak my attention in some form or another.
What the Summer wave is adding to the table is a concept Lego has never explored, posing mythical Phoenixes against zombie Ice Age creatures in a battle of Fire and Ice that will ultimately determine the fate of the world. Each set has it's own shape altering function, whether retractable flames, a full appearance transformation or a "hidden" vehicle. All three are vehicle concepts that have always been successful in its own way.

Bottom line: Am I excited for Chima? More than ever! It however is at the bottom of my must have list, being preceded by:

The Lego Movie: Let me give you three words: Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! I have always wanted to own my own Classic Space(-esque) vehicle and now is my chance! The Constructo-mech is excellent in its own right, but it would be even better if it turned out to be (at least) a 2 in 1 set (i.e. not Rescue Reinforcements [beautiful, but no alternate build]). Despite looking much like a Star Wars ship of sorts, the SSP Dropship includes Johnny Thunder, and really, what other reason do you nee to get that set?

Ninjago: The Battle for Ninjago is somewhat similar to the (Ninjago) Fire Temple, and the inclusion of the Overlord from the TV show makes it all the more a must buy!

Ultra Agents: We've only seen the smallest and largest sets. I'm more than pleased with the both of them and I can't wait for clearer pictures of the minifigures.

Mixels: Let's face it, they're adorable. And their TV show doesn't look half bad either.

Hoping for more pictures today, so I can make a final verdict!

Still no superheroes?

Those train set prices are outrageous. $65 for that train station? Is that correct? $150 for the passenger train? It's almost like they are pricing them so that TRU doesn't have to jack up the prices anymore.

but why always a bike shop???

Were the other star wars sets, besides the ghost and phantom, not at the fair?

I noticed it says $3.99 for the Simpsons CMFs. Ouch. Yes it's licensed but that is still a significant increase and a foot in the door to again raise the cost per packet across the board.

I figure I ought to share the Flickr photostream where most of these pics seem to have come from: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/

There you can see all the pics at full size, including some less-beloved themes like Hero Factory.

I wish we had gotten some more pics of the Hero Factory sets for the summer. But there were enough to get me excited! The Chima sets also offer lots of fantastic parts for constraction building.

Overall, the new Chima stuff looks awesome, but the Legend Beasts are still my only "must-buys" for the year. Glad we've finally got female lions!

City looks pretty great. The new train station is nice, even if it's not a big, ornate station like I was hoping for. The Arctic stuff is fantastic.

The LEGO Friends mall and the Ultra Agents truck both look pretty phenomenal. I'm a bit sad there aren't more photos of either theme though.

Overall, my plans for what to get this year are still much the same as they've been for a while: Hero Factory, LEGO Movie, Ninjago, and Chima Legend Beasts!

Would like to know if we get at least one more Scooter in a different color than the ones in the Parisian Restaurant and the Friends set?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Saving tons of money this year. Agents look like a mess. Chima is still Chima, aka horrible with awesome mini figures. I don't know why they didn't expand on the fox and skunk tripes. Trains are nothing special / unique, and the station is a little off putting to me. Like it's half built and missing the set floor. Those poles on the side are just weird and useless.

@Huw: Ah! I must have missed the direct Flickr link because I expected to see it by itself like the article links. My mistake.

A part that I'm sure none of us can get enough of, 1x1 round plate with hole, is in red in Emmett's mech. Woooo hoooo!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I love those new giant Chima chi figures. Not so keen on the Tiger, but the Panther and Phoenix look fantastic!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Arctic looks absolutely wicked. The story line may be really weird but boy does the Helicrane look good!! Also, I guess the Ice Breaker is the exclusive set that we won't see until its release. Kind of like to Coast Guard Plane? Are there any ideas on the city flagship model for this summer???

By in United Kingdom,

City Arctic range looks excellent, realistic with lots of playability.

Agents, looks okay I guess.

Creator, bike shop looks amazing.

Ninjago doesn't look bad IMO.

Chima is just weird and after a pretty good range of first wave sets this year, Iam rather disappointed in the result.

By in United States,

Chima in general is weird.

By in Australia,

^ I could deal with the animal-people running around fighting. The motorcycle-races-through-the-jungle was a bit of a stretch, but Lego has given us weirder storylines (to facilitate merch sales). Even the giant-sized Chi figures were pretty awesome (I made a storyline where they were the deities of the various Chima races. Like from Mt Olympus, kind of thing).

It's the zombie woolly mammoths that's throwing me.

And then they throw in phoenixes. Can we at least get dragon-people for 2015?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ugh, that orange on Arctic. I hate that color, other than minimal use for accents. Why not dark orange? Or FYO? OR ANYTHING but that shade of orange.

The Ultra Agents truck looks boss.

Other than the Phoenix Temple and the Ultrabuilds, the Chima lineup looks like a total mess... and I say that as a huge Chima fan! Looks like a cornucopia of cool new parts though.

The only sets I'm interested in out of this lot are the Arctic ones and personally I'm impressed with what I've seen so far.

Gravatar

Impressive builds, bad story lines. (cough cough Chima)

By in United States,

The trains look great but wow are those prices bad. I don't think the train station is that bad though, I don't get why everyone hates it?

But the real question here is why is the bike shop $90? It looks like a $30 set, but it claims to have over 1000 pieces? I might be looking at the wrong thing but that certainly seems weird.

I wonder why the revealed the two worst SW sets too? I guess because they're part of Rebels and they want to showcase that, but ew, those sets were bad. I wish they would continue with Episode III sets but no, we're just getting some bad ones. I'll probably withhold judgement until I see the Star Destroyer, AT-AT, and Cantina, but its not looking good this year.

Chima looked surprisingly good, I might actually have to pick a set up just to see if its worth it. Ninjago looks great as always, and I'm definitely expecting to pick some of those sets up. Maybe I can use all the money I won't spend this summer on what I'm missing from last year.

By in United States,

i don't usually buy chima as i only have 1 or 2 but I actually think the chima sets look very good this year with a lot of new pieces. I am also all about the minifigs. GO PHOENIXES! the star wars sets look interesting. the artic I would get just for the vehicles. agents could've been better and ninjago im not queit sure about but i will wait till later to finalize that verdict. the huskies look very good but im upset that there were no images of the hobbit sets.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Star Destroyer looks partially like the older one but its missing the "escape pod" thingy and the bridge... and i think it got smaller in comparison to the old version

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Woot! Managed to log on again:) I think Arctic looks great. Need to get the huskies!!! But other than that my money will go to the retro spaceship (YAY!) and the awesome looking (despite the rather vague image I saw so far) Seacow.
