Clearer image of 42100 Liebherr R 9800

42100 Liebherr R 9800 was probably among the most exciting new sets that emerged from the Nuremberg Toy Fair a couple of months ago. Bouwsteentjes has now uncovered a slightly clearer image of the set, showing its exterior in more detail.

This model will be released on the 1st of August and includes CONTROL+, a system which should enable several functions to be executed concurrently! It reportedly costs €449.99 in Germany, probably equating to around £399.99 or $449.99 given the price of 42083 Bugatti Chiron.

LEGO Star Wars video game approaching

Matthew Wood, a leading sound editor and voice actor for General Grievous and the Battle Droids, has revealed that another LEGO Star Wars video game is in development. Wood made reference to the game while discussing his 2019 projects during Star Wars Celebration.

We do not know when the game will be available but it might take inspiration from the entire Sequel Trilogy, following the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Rogue One and Solo have not appeared in a LEGO video game either.

Review: 75243 Slave I - 20th Anniversary Edition

Many vehicles from the Star Wars universe have been subject to multiple LEGO models and Boba Fett's unorthodox craft has returned particularly often. 75243 Slave I - 20th Anniversary Edition is the fourth rendition of the craft at this scale and appears to represent a significant improvement over its varied predecessors.

Moreover, the set includes an exclusive Zuckuss minifigure, thereby completing the famed group of bounty hunters who appear in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. That is an enticing prospect and this model looks superb, although its price of £109.99 or $119.99 seems rather expensive. On the other hand, the new version does contain 1007 pieces so it should be impressively detailed.

A history of Technic panels, part 2

What items go into our set database?

You might wonder what criteria we use to decide which LEGO-related items we include in our set database given we don't add everything with a LEGO logo on it.

We have a set of rules that we apply to determine if items are eligible and I thought it would be worth documenting them again, because the last time I did so was in 2011.

Part of the reason for doing so now is because there's debate in the comments of the BrickLink AFOL Designer program sets article about whether or not they should be added.

CITY minifigures renumbered

In January we reported that BrickLink had catalogued over 1000 Star Wars minifigures so was renumbering them by adding a leading zero. It caused us a few issues because of the way we link to the BrickLink data that we import.

This week the numbers allocated to CITY minifigs has exceeded 1000 so the LEGO marketplace has just renumbered them, too. Thankfully, BrickLink database administrator Hygrotus reached out to me to give warning it was going to happen so I was able to change the data here to prevent similar issues from occurring this time.

The work is now complete and everything looks OK as far as I can see but if you notice any anomalies, let me know. You might need to log off and back on, or close your browser window and return to the site in 1/2 hour or so (to allow your session to expire) if CTYxxxx minifigs are missing from your collection.

BrickLink AFOL Designer Program packaging revealed

There are now just six days in which to place a pre-order for the AFOL Designer Program sets at BrickLink. Of the 12 sets, all but three have reached their funding target so will be produced.

BrickLink has now revealed pictures of the packaging from which we can see that not only are they very well packaged, but also that the outer part of the box can be flattened and used as a backdrop for display.

Architecture landmark set Trafalgar Square revealed

LEGO has unveiled 21045 Trafalgar Square in an unconventional way by announcing a signing event for the set on Facebook, which will take place on 27th April at the Leicester Square store.

The set, which includes Nelson's Column, the lion statues and fountains around it and the National Gallery behind, looks fantastic.

Review: Bacta Suit Finn

LEGO Star Wars books usually contain exclusive minifigures and the latest edition of the LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary features one such character. This version of Finn sports an unusual bacta suit, corresponding with his appearance at the beginning of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Choosing to produce this minifigure during the twentieth anniversary of LEGO Star Wars seems odd in my opinion. However, he is quite unlikely to appear in a standard set so I am delighted to add another unique minifigure to my collection.
