Nostalgic, Though 10 Years Late... Worth It!

Written by (TFOL) in United States,

Ever since Episode 2 of Lego City No Limits dropped, I instantly remembered how amazing it was!

I picked this puppy up a solid decade late, and cheap. $40 is what I paid (I was on BrickLink). If you're looking to buy this for yourself (or someone else), I suggest BrickLink as other sellers won't opt for an easier price, trust me!

As for the build itself, going through 2 integrations for the base, I'd prefer either! Like all sets I buy, I like to give them a little bit of a structural overhaul (in this case I'd usually tile off all the exposed studs). The overall shape of the whirlybird is what I mainly kept the same. The version used in the animation was the earlier version with the studded side. I landed myself the red striped side as it was generally the cheaper option. To this day, I still ask my Mom for help with those strings, but like all elements of the copter, it was worth it! The automatic retract winch is something I hope at on point will return. The introduction of part 78333 will definitely make the assembly process a lot less fiddly for the younger generation!

The burning side build is always a cute addition. However, fire helicopters in my area don't usually operate in urban areas (unless in this case the road fire units can't reach said areas that are on fire). This heli could most likely be repurposed for an urban rescue helicopter rather than a fire helicopter, but could still provide all the necessary fire extinguishing equipment.

The minifig selection never disappoints! My main gripe with the firefighters is the common print difference between the fire suits. In reality, fire suit shading can differ greatly, but I like to keep all my fire figures the same shade, so I traded it for the more prominent variant.

To sum up, 60010 represents a time when City was generally cool and had an eye for older fans. The price-to-peice/part ratio was also a lot better if you want a golden age of the city theme in the perfect package, This is the set for you!

Kids, make sure to ask your trusted grown-up for help with the winch like me, It'll help you out a million ;)

Now all I gots' ta do is figure out how to fit it on the helipad of the new station. It's small but the sticker next to it suggests a heli this size WOULD work. Oh well, I always got some bricks layin' around!
