    Samurai X Journey's to Vorton.

Written by (AFOL , rhodium-rated reviewer) in Canada,

Set #71216 Fun Pack Nya: Here she is, Samurai X in all of her glory and ready to leap into the world of Ninjago and LEGO Dimensions. This is a great fun pack if you missed out on Samurai X’s original release and want her Minifigure.

    Packaging

Everything about this type of packaging has been discussed. The instructions however could have been better thought out, I understand why they locked the content to digital only for the vehicle builds, but it might have been nicer if they’d included a code for a website to get some in-game hints and possibly access to the instructions faster for impatient players.

    Parts

The most interesting part in this set is the black unprinted R5 astromech dome piece. Some Mixel ball joints are also found here for the mech build.

    Minifigures

Nya: Samurai X is identical to the print and design found in the larger set from the Ninjago Theme, this is a much cheaper alternative to that set, especially now on the secondary market for her. It might have been nice to include a spare hair piece so she could alter her look without the helmet for different display options, but they chose not to. She includes two black katana and the back armour with the sheaths for her.

    The build

Samurai Mech: This is a quick and easy build which uses Mixel joints for the best effect, it captures the look of the larger model quite nicely for such a limited number of parts.

Samurai Shooter: This particular build looks slightly odd, and isn’t as practical looking as the first model, but it’s still a solid build easy to follow along with.

Soaring Samurai Mech: This one looks a little odd, but the build is still pretty solid, nothing falls off and the steps are fairly quick to follow along with.

    The completed model

Samurai Mech: Starting out with a strong model, this smaller version of the Samurai Mech looks great. Sadly it does not match the in-game version, but that is to be expected since digitally the parts make up a much larger mech that can fit a Minifigure. (It reminds me of the smaller Metalbeard from Metalbeard’s Sea Cow in design.

Samurai Shooter: I have no idea why, but this thing looks very ill proportioned, perhaps because the in-game model is again slightly larger in design and just looks better because it is using better elements in its construction. Either way I feel that this model is weaker in design and is not very stable when playing with it off the toy tag.

Soaring Samurai Mech: Again the in-game model looks so much better than this physical copy, but unlike the secondary model this third build is at least stable and a fun toy to play with off the toy tag. Definitely a fun little toy.

    The Digital Content

The Adventure World: Not much to add here, I mean this is the third pack out of a total of six packs LEGO made for the Ninjago Theme, this is a decent idea in practice as it lets you to pick your favorite characters to unlock the adventure world and explore Dimensions, unfortunately it does mean that there are a lot of repetitive things to say.

Character & Vehicle Abilities: Nya has similar abilities to Jay, she can use Acrobat, Fix-It, Stealth and Spinjitzu of course, but her unique ability is Laser Deflector, she uses her twin swords to deflect lasers and solve those tricky puzzles.

The Samurai Mech is a Mech Walker, which means anyone can ride in it, the first model can destroy Cracked LEGO Objects. The second model gains the ability to Destroy Silver LEGO objects and the third model adds the ability to fly access flight docks and flight cargo hooks on top of the ability to destroy Silver LEGO Objects. Definitely a versatile vehicle.

    Overall opinion

Nya is a great offering from LEGO Dimensions, mostly because it offers up the chance to get the Samurai X Minifigure much cheaper. Overall though I still recommend selecting your favorite characters and leaving the rest alone.
