Great figure, not so great build

Written by (KFOL) in United States,

MINIFIGURE: This is the only minifigure from the Ninjago line of Lego Dimensions that I see much value in. While I am not sure that he is exclusive, he definitely adds to the reason to buy this pack with his gorgeous, golden details on his torso and legs. If you don't have a Sensei Wu figure, now you do.

BUILD: The dragon is great looking, especially with the croissant piece used on the head. It actually just looks like a mini version of the full set for Wu's Dragon. The bad part about it is that it falls apart quite easily, and this will become especially annoying to those who simply store away their Lego dimensions items in a box or bag when not using them. Not to mention the fact that this is not the easiest build to remember and I can recall two or three times when I had to look up the online instructions.

OVERALL: Even though it isn't the most stable model, it looks great as a physical item and in game. Wu is a fun character to play as, with him being one of the fastest characters in the game, and his minifigure looks quite good.

    Master Wu joins Dimensions

Written by (AFOL , rhodium-rated reviewer) in Canada,

Set #71234 Sensei Wu Fun Pack: Ninjago got a ton of figures for LEGO Dimensions Series 1 and some may believe they had too many, but the Ninjago Team is rather large and the fact that they included the full roster is great. It is a bit sad that Justice League didn’t get a full team, still if you’re looking to add the Master of Ninjitzu on your team roster this is the pack for you.

    Packaging

There’s a lot of fun looking images on the package for Sensei Wu and definitely good product demonstration. There is as usual not much to say about the package that hasn’t been said before, do forgive me if I sound like a broken record.

    Parts

There aren’t a lot of parts in this set, but they are fairly great because they are so versatile and useful. On top of that you’ll find a white croissant in this set, which is a unique colour for the bread element and can work great if you’re looking for these things.

    Minifigures

Sensei Wu: There is a lot of details printed on Sensei Wu, I am not 100% sure which version is included here actually, I mean this Minifigure is not unique. Which is true of all the Ninjago Minifigures, they are all from the various Sub-Themes of the franchise with prints that are the same. He has his staff as an accessory and that’s pretty much it.

    The build

Flying White Dragon: This build is highly satisfying, it’s another great small scaled creature build, the wings are a bit on the stiff side since you use sword blades for the wings and there are no joints to be found in this build. It’s a highly solid looking model though.

Golden Fire Dragon: Honestly this version is only slightly altered in the build, the legs are clearly similar if not identical as is the torso for the most part, the wings are modified and the head is a very different looking design, it’s a pretty clever use of techniques to make the models look fairly similar as if they could be from the same base creature.

Ultra Destruction Dragon: I’m not a fan of this build, it uses the same parts, but it looks terrible because it lacks enough elements to make a fully realized model, compare this model to the digital version and you’ll see that they could have tried so much better, but with 3-in-1 builds I guess it just happens that being stuck with the same elements works against it, and this is the build that suffers the most because of it.

    The completed model

Flying White Dragon & Alternate Models: As I somewhat discussed during the build section the models are very impressive. The Flying White and Golden Fire Dragons are really strong offerings with great techniques that make the same basic framework look very difficult. The Ultra Destruction Dragon is a much weaker and messy looking model, it definitely fails as a toy compared to the original two.

Overall I’d say just build the first two models and ignore the third one, because the first two models are really satisfying toys and look great in a Ninjago collection.

    The Digital Content

Adventure World: Sensei Wu unlocks the Ninjago Adventure world, he’s the eighth character to do so as well so really there is not a whole lot to discuss about here.

Character & Creature Abilities: Sensei Wu has Spinjitzu as his main ability, he can use stealth the pole vault and acrobat abilities, all of them are fairly common amongst the Ninjago Cast and so aren’t really much to discuss.

Flying White Dragon has the Flying ability when you ride him, he cannot interact with Flight Docks or Cargo Hooks. Golden Fire Dragon adds Special Attack to his power and Ultra Destruction Dragon gains a Special Weapon. A pretty limited number of abilities.

    Overall opinion

As I’ve said before with these Ninjago Fun Packs I would recommend picking your favorites and go from there. If you want to buy everything in the Theme for LEGO Dimensions I’d strongly recommend picking up Sensei Wu. The dragon models are mostly strong and look great with all the Ninjago mini models in the Theme.

So ultimately this is a fairly decent pack and when you put the entire Team together you get a lot of fun dialogue out of it and a lot of great mini model toys to play and display with.
