Golden Ninja Returns
Set #71239 Lloyd Fun Pack: Here we find the final Ninjago set from LEGO Dimensions and it involves the return of the Gold Ninja which hadn’t been seen since 2013 if I’m not mistaken. It’s a pretty decent offering, but again if you want to explore the Ninjago world I still suggest picking up your favorite character and ignoring the others.
Packaging
Lloyd in his Gold Ninja form is slicing with his swords on the front of the package and the temple is visible in the background. It’s pretty much the same looking packaging as every other Fun Pack.
Parts
Green and pearlescent gold elements are included in this set and it’s a pretty decent set of parts for a set of this type, not much really to say about this sets parts list aside from the toy tag there isn’t anything really unique looking in this set.
Minifigures
Lloyd: This is the Golden Ninja Minifigure seen in 2013, it features all of the same prints, accessories and weapons from the character and has a unique printed Toy Tag… Not much else to say really, I covered a more detailed description in my Golden Dragon review.
The build
Lloyd’s Golden Dragon: The build for this model is quite enjoyable, similar to Sensei Wu’s dragon build this one uses the parts quite well to make a flying dragon in miniature scale. The limbs are not moveable with this build, however it does match the digital model quite nicely.
Sword Projector Dragon: This build reuses the parts in a rather unconventional looking model, the build is a bit similar parts use why when constructing this model.
Mega Flight Dragon: The re-use of parts this time takes a bit getting used to and unfortunately the digital model just does not match up with this build. It could have used a bit more polish as I am not a huge fan of this build.
The completed model
Lloyd’s Golden Dragon & Alternate Models: The primary model looks great, it is a very convincing golden dragon however I feel more gold elements should have been used instead of sticking all the green in there. The secondary model of Sword Projector Dragon is a tad unusual looking, but still somewhat interesting and a fun toy to play with.
The final model is just a wreck. It uses horrible parts compared to the digital model which looks much better, I would suggest taking the parts from your collection to make the digital version first before making this official model because the digital model actually is bigger and better designed than what they came up with here.
The Digital Content
Adventure World: It’s the Ninjago Adventure World, what more can I say?
Character & Vehicle Abilities: Lloyd has the Spinjitzu ability naturally, he’s also capable of Acrobat, Stealth, Laser Deflection and Illumination powers, a rather interesting selection of abilities for him to rely upon.
The Green Dragon is a Flying vehicle, but has no other abilities. The secondary form gains a Special Attack ability and Special Weapon is added to the third model… considering what others can do it’s a rather limited selection for this pack.
Overall opinion
If you missed out on the Golden Ninja Minifigure this set is a must get for Classic NINJAGO collectors since it does include a relatively rare Minifigure. Other than that this set could easily and safely be skipped if you’d prefer to get one of the other Ninja, I think Jay and Nya have more interesting abilities and Zane can travel underwater, so really Lloyd isn’t necessary since a lot of other characters can do what he does. The models are also somewhat lacking, I’d say get this if you want everything from LEGO Dimensions, but it is safe to skip and I’m getting a tad repetitive. Mildly recommended for fans who want Lloyd in their game.
