    Solid Build

Written by (AFOL) in United States,

I have to say for a ~100 piece set, this one is engaging and uses a lot of interesting & technical steps. Love the build and it makes a really well done rhino all around. I dont have the mario starter course (or any) but picked it up for a small downtime build because it's Rambi! All around great build and I took my time (15 mins) and really enjoyed putting this figure together and have him standing in between some of my other sets. I dont wanna say it's perfect but it comes close!

Great set with a slight flaw

Written by (TFOL) in United States,

$10 sets have always been a staple for Lego. Not only have they historically been a good value, but also have included many desirable parts and builds. This set is no different. Though Lego has bumped the price, I feel the $11 price point is still ok value wise. The build is fairly large and includes many great pieces. One example is the toad hat piece, which has been recolored to represent boulders. This part usage is genius, and makes the tumbling play feature better than if it had used basic bricks. Rambi makes use of a new eye print, as well as a nice rubber tooth piece used for his horn. All these pieces work together to make a good-looking model.

The action feature in this set is nice too. Rambi can run into the boulder stack and knock it over to reveal a hidden banana. It's surprisingly fun to do this. Rambi is also bulky and a little heavier than I expected, exactly how a rhino should feel.

However, as with any set, it's not perfect. The one downside to this set is the large gap in Rambi's back. This is present so that Mario can ride Rambi, but when Mario is absent, it leaves a gaping hole. I wish this set included some pieces to fill in Rambi's back when Mario is not riding him, just like how Lego includes bricks for horses' backs when minifigs aren't riding them. In addition, the Donkey Kong figure included in the treehouse set is challenging to pose on Rambi. I found a pose that works, but it doesn't look natural. I feel like more thought should have been put into this. Afterall, it is DK that rides Rambi in the games, not Mario.

Despite the problems with Rambi's back, this set is still great, even at the $11 price point. I feel that this set holds up better than most after the price increases. If you're into Donkey Kong at all, I feel that this is an easy pickup, especially for the 20% off sale this set will inevitably get in the months to come.
