This particular king commands a great price for himself. He runs the Castle economy, after all.
Now this is a regal bearing.
Only as much printing and specialized parts as a modern figure would have but looks way better to me for some reason.
Fantasy Era Castle: one of the best castle themes still to this day, IMO.
Crown knights, love 'em!
There is even a better version of the Crown Knights King with leg printing!

Set 7097 Troll's Mountain Fortress also contains the Crown Knights King as a captive. Wonderful set.
Doesn't look so intimidating without his armour, crown and cape on.
I still find it amusing they reused a viking torso and head for the Crownie King.

It's funny to me since some kings/lords would have been viking descendants, especially in Ireland!
I didn't vote for him
Lego have done a lot of kings, but I have to say this is one of the kingiest of them
@ElephantKnight
Yeah they ran out their new mold quota before the set was done
He's no 71008, that's for sure.

Now that you mention it, Normandy, France, was settled by a contingent of Vikings following the attack on Paris. William the Conqueror was from Normandy, and is famous for conquering England. Ergo, England was ruled by Viking descendants for a period of time. These days, I believe the king is of Scottish descent.

Who made you king?... A watery tart holding aloft weapons in some farcical aquatic ceremony is no basis to establish a form of central government.

Yhe Father off the Central Bank and the pricklish prick who lost a duel to Aaron Burr?
This is one of my favorite minifigures of all time. Lucky to get him at a garage sale with his castle and a lot of other complete sets from that time period back in 15.

Well, yeah. That was the function of that big shiny hat, after all. And that's why people went to war, so their leader could win a big hat and a big chair. And the rest of us were stupid enough to follow suit, thinking "wow, that dude's hat and chair are so fancy, we're going to let these unelected sponges tell us what to do from now on, that just seems decent and fair and right, for always and ever!"

The guy looks like a "Fancy Fred" to me. Sorry - that's His Royal Majesty King Frederick the Fancy, First of His Name, Wearer of Hats, Warmer of Chairs."
I'm thinking 'Norton I, Emperor of the United States, and protector of Mexico'. Yes, he was a real person: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_Norton

That one guy who was born in the British Empire and just moved to a different part of the British Empire, but at the time was most definitely not someone anyone would have considered an “immigrant”?

Honestly at this point the British Royal Family is a bit of everything, the way interbreeding in all the European royals worked. If anything our current crown occupier is more of German descent (the family surname was Saxe-Coburg-Gotha until relatively recently) than Scottish but they do like playing up the Scotch angle
The King of the Crown Knights. What a title. What a figure. What a theme. What a clever allusion to historic british kings being descendants of normans (complete with a scooby doo like costume underneath of a viking. It must be a choice because in 7097 he does have a normal costume underneath. He used to be vik013 and vik016 before in sets 7019 and 7020).
What
IRL gold is too soft to be good armor. But that hasn't stopped Minecraft, I guess
He did receive an upgrade in 2009 with printed legs and a more unique torso. There's also a set with a dark blue plume on his crown, but that version lacks the cape... So no full version in any set!
In Lego Legacy Heroes Unboxed, he was called King Brutus and was depicted as a rather incompetent and greedy ruler (much in contrast to his official bio back in 2007).
It was interesting how Fantasy Era sneaked in so many unique figures in most larger sets:
Castle Siege: Crown King
Skeleton Tower: Evil Wizard and Crown Princess
Dwarf Mine: Dwarven King
Troll Ship and Siege Tower: Urkt the Troll Commander
Troll Fortress: Troll King and Troll Witch/Queen
Bridge Tower: Crown Queen and Golden Knight
Village Market: All the Peasants, Blacksmith
Advent Calendar: Witch (+ Jester and Villager Woman)
@Atuin:
Well, the SW design team certainly learned that unique minifigs sell sets, so it only stands to reason that other themes would follow suit. The irony of it is that back in the day, they used to bury the female minifigs in the larger genre sets because they felt that those minifigs would tank sales. And we wonder why FFOLdom largely skipped Gen X and Millennials in North America.

Plenty of European armour of the 15th and 16th centuries was gilded in whole or in part. So while not made of solid gold, it was not unusual for the wealthy to have golden coloured armour.
