Review: 30678 Minions' Jetboard

Posted by ,

30678 Minions' Jetboard is a new polybag that's now available from specialist retailers.

I recently purchased it and 30685 TIE Interceptor from UK-based authorised LEGO retailer Brick-a-Brac, which is one of the best places to source the elusive collectable bags at normal retail prices.

The titular jetboard looks suitably comical and impractical, with a huge engine on the back.

The included minion is not named, but I believe it to be Tim and, unless I am mistaken, this is the only set that he comes in attired in regular blue dungarees.

He's much the same as Kevin, but with a logo printed on his pocket which seems to be common on those in this year's sets.

He comes equipped with a ray gun of some sort and a spanner.

If, like me, you have no intention of buying the larger Despicable Me 4 sets, it's an excellent way to acquire one of Gru's yellow helpers. The rest of the set will go in the parts bin...

It's currently available from Brick-a-Brac for £3.49.

Harsh summary, but I feel the same way. It's more a parts pack than anything for most besides the children.

By in United States,

Is it available in the US? Would go well with 30387 for those of us who just want inexpensive plain Minions.

(Nevermind, Google tells me Kohl's has it. I'll have to stop at one tomorrow.)

"He comes equipped with a ray gun of some sort and a spanner."

Reading books all my life and working with tools, still did not expose me much to the British variant of 'spanner.'

"Chewie bring me the hydrospanner!" This always seemed like exotic Star Wars lingo. Turns out, it was mostly just British.

Thanks Huw.

For us, a wrench is an adjustable spanner. Spanners tend to be non-adjustable.

I hate to say it, but I still think Mega did a better job with the Minions property. Even if just for the fact that they went whole-hog with the variety of Minions thanks to their blind bag releases.

Also, why hasn't Lego done a blind bag Minions? Even better, it could even be a completely random blind bag release... Even though the movies concentrate on only a handful of name Minions, there are supposed to be hundreds or thousands of them.

Random blind bag to include:
- exclude extra wide minions like Otto to simplify randomization. (all other standard Minions tend to be 2x2 round brick sized)
- random head (tall/short, one/two eye, random expression)
- random body
- random accessory.
- Need to sweeten the pot? Add 1-3 chase Named Minions mixed in per series.

Wahla! printing money and everyone can create their very own endless Minion Army.

Or a great insult for someone who’s been a right idiot

By in New Zealand,

What? You mean you won't put it in a wicked bricks display case and have it as the front and centre display at Brickset towers?

I like it, it's not a monstrosity of a minion, there are some neat parts, for me at least (red 1x3 jumpers, lt blay cone, white studded gun).

By in Germany,

Great little polybag for those trying to amass some minions. Plus some of the parts can be useful for space MOCs.
What's not to like?

Of course, if you dislike minions then you wouldn't have read the review to begin with, let alone wasted time on posting a comment, now would you? ;-p

By in Switzerland,

I found it last Thursday at Müller in my shopping centre for CHF 4.95.
I purchased 30680, 30682 and 30685 together.
The 30683 was also available.
