Quick look: 60448 Sports Car
Posted by benbacardi,
60448 Sports Car is one of this year's smallest City sets, aimed at young children who have started to move on from Duplo and need some more challenging sets than the 4+ range.
With just over 100 pieces, the car comes together quickly and easily, and includes a minifigure and a handful of other accessories.
Summary
60448 Sports Car, 109 pieces.
£8.99 / $9.99 / €9.99 | 8.2p/9.2c/9.2c per piece.

A great little sports car with a fun minifigure, that hides its 5+ nature very well.
The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.
The single minifigure reminds me of 71018 Yuppie from Series 17 CMFs—aviator sunglasses, a "cool" expression, floppy black hair, and a mobile phone (a printed tile, shown in later photos). I love the open brown jacket above the flower-print shirt, which appeared in a handful of sets last year.
The car itself is a sleek red sports car with low-profile tyres, black accents, and a tinted windscreen. For a 5+ set, it looks surprisingly good—perhaps not to the level of a Speed Champions design, but it works—and that's without any stickers!
A pair of exhausts are represented at the rear by a brick with technic holes, and they've even managed to squeeze in both headlights and tail lights.
The windscreen can be removed, revealing space inside for a single minifigure. He can fit in while still holding his phone, however ill-advised that is!
The front and rear of the car attach using a pair of clips and a "brick 1x2, rounded, w/ 3.2 shaft"—something LEGO's done in a number of sets recently, and it seems to work well.
Being a 5+ set, the majority of the chassis is a single large piece, but one that's hidden very well by the rest of the car. My son built this, and I wasn't aware it was in there until I came to take these photos.
Finally, the boot (trunk for those of you across the pond) can lift up, revealing a storage compartment between the rear wheels. Inside you'll find a sponge and a spray bottle for cleaning the car.
These little sets are amongst some of the best LEGO makes. They're low-priced, build excellent models, and often come with a great minifigure or two. 60448 Sports Car is no exception, and it's an easy pick-up for any child who either loves cars, or just likes putting together a small LEGO set to pass some time.
60448 Sports Car is available from LEGO.com for $9.99 / £8.99 / €9.99.

Nice little car. Can't wait until it hits 20% off.
It totally transforms when you remove the light grey colour blocking (3 pieces) and maybe choose different hubcaps! I used a set of caps from the SC Countach and also swapped the 2-pin technic brick for license plate holders. Voilá, something you can take seriously!
Love little sets like this and 60285. Really nice to add to a city.
I love these inexpensive 6-wide cars. They are perfect scale for my modular city.
Very nice set! It looks very sleek and sporty, with plenty of interesting contours. I definitely appreciate that they retained the modular "mix and match" play feature of the cars from many other recent 6-wide car sets. The little sponge and water bottle also feel like a very appropriate extra play feature to store in the trunk, suggesting a car owner who really cares about maintaining that luxurious shine!
I honestly quite like this new chassis piece. Despite its size, I feel like its simple rectangular shape makes it more versatile than parts like https://brickset.com/parts/design-4212 and https://brickset.com/parts/design-52036 from my childhood, which had shapes and proportions that felt a lot more specific to building single-occupant wheeled vehicles.
By comparison, this new one feels like it could be used for all kinds of purposes: a structural element for a bridge, a catamaran hull, a catwalk above a show stage or factory floor, a slide/chute, a gangway at an air terminal, etc. To say nothing of the varied sorts of road vehicles we've already seen it used for in this year's City sets!

I'm not a car person, but these sorts of comments always bewilder me… do a few grey spots and simple unprinted hubcaps really make it that impossible to take seriously as-is?
Quick comment. F$%in' yuppy scum.
Nothing like getting kids ready for a mid-life crisis or post-divorce purchase later in life
That is an outstanding little red car for that price. My son would love the modularity and the trunk.
A terrific little set for $10! A buy for sure for my boys and myself.

"A man has become an influencer in LEGO City! HEY!"
"Build the rented sports car. Record the social media videos. Then back to the dealership!"
"The new hustle culture collection from LEGO City!"
Finally, a Speed Champions set without stickers!
Remember, don't text while driving!
Quite an odd shape. I'll stick with my 60285.
Oh, that's a SPONGE! I thought he had a piece of bread for some reason.
I like this car. Reminds me of my old 2003 Nissan 350Z (although that was more of a maroon). I miss it.
Oh I am TOTALLY here for the late-Millennial yuppie minifig. They're on their way to enjoy a $28 shrimp po' boy at the newest food-truck pop-up while they text one of their four "situationships" and ain't NO school zone gonna slow them down!

This is for comments like this that I'd like to have a photo gallery inside Brickset. People could show their mods of existing sets. The recent Blacktron mod by Huw also comes to mind.

echoing the sentiment of needing pictures!
Also did the longest comment thread on the fabuland set get deleted? cant find any evidence of it!
A minifig in a reasonably priced car.
I wouldn’t think cars would have much use for biscuit joints. Well, unless it’s Splinter, the wooden hypercar.
I have an impression that it is rather rare to have a lego set without any printed piece or stickers. But I'm not sure. I think I will buy this one, it sells for 8,30$ with a discount in my country.
I really like this set! My favorite aspect of it is the trunk, really hope LEGO continues to make cars with them.

Maybe I was unfair here. The stock version is already pretty good. Yet, this car really enters 6-wide Speed Champions territory if you use black pieces instead of light grey. It looks less disrupted. As for the hubcaps: the undecorated tiles aren't my taste, but being able to change stuff as you like it, is the appeal of LEGO in first place, isn't it?

Well I liked the sound of your modifications, and made a note of them for when I buy this set! You can’t please everyone all of the time, but I thought you made good suggestions, and with it being a 5+ I’d expect to need some changes for grownup display

I wasn't planning to get this set, but now I'm tempted to, just to see what it looks like with the front and rear ends from 60389 swapped in.
Well priced and you get a nice detailed car...
What is sad is that this will probably be one of LEGO's 'Best Buys' for the year.

There are a number of 5+ sets that don't use these big specialized chassis bricks, like 60369, 60402, 60404, or 60412. 60402 is actually complex enough that I think the only reason it isn't considered a 6+ set is because it doesn't have any stickers.
It looks like the front and rear can be swapped with those of the two cars in 60472 Scrapyard. Mix and match vehicles seem to be a popular theme lately.
Nice build and good looking. If the canopy had a hinged mechanism, it would have been even better.
The big annoyance however with this set are the instructions.
109 pieces = 100 (!) pages.
This doesn't even border but simply passes the line of idiocy and simplicity.
Not only is it ridiculous and a complete waste, it is a true insult for 5+ kids as well.
Added blotch is that the booklet is so thick you need a paper weight to keep it open. So we don't want to go back in time where kids had less elaborate but a bit more challenging instructions; we decided however to go back in time even further and make the kids aquinted with the charm of a paper weight... as if.
The first thing I thought of upon seeing the trunk's contents is:
Wax on. (waves one arm)
Wax off. (waves other arm)
This guy must secretly be in training under a Karate master!
One of the nicest shaped 6 wide LEGO cars in recent times.
75890 Ferrari F40 Competizione was one of my favorites , but next to this , it looks really quite weird, due to the many studs and stickers.

I tried swapping parts with 60395 Combo Race Pack and 60396 Modified Race Cars but it doesn't 100% line up with this set , but those are also 2023 sets (but could probably be adjusted a bit)
The scrapyard cars do look 100% compatible however.
My main issue with this car is that it shares some design similarities with the cars from 60408 Car Transporter, but they didn't make it the same size as those cars. The wheel size and wheelbase are different. Considering the Car Transporter has spaces for more cars, this would have been ideal as an add-on set to fill up the transporter, but they seem to have dropped the ball here and missed a good opportunity
Wow! Such cool little set! Adore these types of cars.

I'd prefer a star ;-)
In any case, a really nice set. Easy to build, fun to play with, fair price. What's not to like.
Great little set, amazing minifugure.
