Random minifig of the day: hp063
Posted by Huwbot,
Today's random minifigure is hp063 Hermione Granger - Gryffindor Stripe Torso with Time Turner Necklace, Dark Bluish Gray Legs, Black Cape, a Harry Potter figure that came in one set, 4754 Hagrid's Hut, released during 2004.
Our members collectively own a total of 2,429 of them. If you'd like to buy one you should find it for sale at BrickLink, where new ones sell for around $36.80.

looks like an old lady
the old HP graphic design was interesting- to say the least lol
Definitely doesn't look like her age in the films
I was just about to say, the first-run faces for the HP minifigs left a little bit to be desired.
It kinda feels like, they tried to make a realistic face, but without noses it was a wasted effort.
I love it when a Hermione figure has a long, wordy name. It's appropriate!

And yesterday's didn't, despite Bricklink calling her a grandmother.

Side effect of time-travelling too much.
Hands are upside-down.

LOL! That is so funny!

Maybe this depicts her under the effects of the Cruciatus Curse?

Somehow they look disproportionately large to me.
Combined with the face, it's creepy
One of the first fleshies!
I have the capeless version from the 2004 castle. It's a shame the capes were dropped as a standard feature from HP figs from then on.

Today’s and yesterday’s could swap heads and it would seem way more appropriate if a little colour mismatched
Graphics design from 1995 till about 2010 really was so bad at Lego ...
The head makes it look like a knockoff figure where the printing went wrong.
Btw today is Hermione's birthday.

It's also Talk Like a Pirate Day, so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3p_Kewu7jc
That must be one of the worst lego faces ever made :D
Looks more like Umbridge than Hermione.
I'm just happy Ma Fratelli finally got a minifigure.
My favorite version, probably because of nostalgia. But at least we can probably all agree this is better than the 2005 version (in 4762 ) (which doesn't come close to how horrific Ron is in that set)
HERMIONE CAN'T DRAW
HERMIONE CAN'T DRAW
HERMIONE CANNOT DRAW
SHE ONLY READS BOOKS AND SHE CANNOT DRAW
EVEN IF SHE'S READING A HOW-TO-DRAW BOOK
...I promise my previous post is actually a relevant reference here!
I was never into this franchise when I was a kid; for a variety of reasons, it just didn't attract me. But in my first year at university, what I did watch was the fan-made Very Potter Musicals on YouTube, because I had a couple of online friends who kept referencing the jokes from those videos, and I wanted to understand them.
Despite having no context for the franchise at all, I still surprised myself by mostly enjoying the videos. My favourite character was their (somewhat comedically exaggerated) portrayal of Hermione; and I also stumbled across a post online which pointed out that this minifigure of the character actually looked like a better match for the musicals' version (where as part of the joke all the characters regardless of age were played by college students) than for the actual movie actress. Even in my dark age at that point, that was sufficient motivation for me to hunt down a cheap copy of the minifigure on eBay specifically because of how much I had liked that portrayal.
These days I've been keeping my distance from the overall franchise again, based on more recent developments. But I still have this figure, and have fond memories associated with her ^^
Hahaha that face, maybe it could work as the head of a scary doll in a haunted house

Still better than 90% of the figs from the $1k Dumb Star.
I actually miss when themes had their own unique art styles for minifigures. Say what you want about Hermione’s face, but it’ is certainly more memorable than any Hermione figure from the past decade. Most female characters Lego puts out nowadays look practically identical because they’re too afraid to stray from their current aesthetic.
Ugh! Lego people are yellow with distinct facial proportions. But this poor figure has this weird unnatural skin color, and the eyes and mouth are weirdly stretched away from one another, kind of like they've been stepped on. It looks freakish.
It’s not ideal for product development, or the bottom line. Nearly every CMF already gets a 100% unique face (the very first instance I know of a CMF reusing an existing face was 71026-3, and I’m not aware of any others offhand). They also had characters played by the same actor who had completely different faces for every theme their characters appeared in. The “can’t repeat” mentality has also led to instances where characters had only the most minor differences in print (I know one half of such a pairing is from PotC), and just that one minor difference means a whole new set of printing pads needs to be made, which isn’t cheap. And each of those heads has to be stocked separately, which also isn’t cheap.

An excuse to link to another song? Don't mind if I do! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrGtxf-8ISc
