Disney Advent Calendar - Day 13

Posted by ,

The last few days have featured either locations visited by Olaf in Olaf's Frozen Adventure, or something that represents the holiday traditions of the family he visits. I expect we'll see a few more of those traditions in the rest of the calendar.

Indeed we do! Today's build is a quartet of candles, which ordinarily would be considered suitable for the season in its own right. However, in the movie, one of the families that Olaf visits has a tradition where they make these circlets of candles to wear on their heads. I think they were called chandeliers.

I like that we're building items that are recognizable for the scene, even if the scale of this one is off. The circlet is almost as tall as a minidoll, and would likely set a microdoll aflame!

Do they want to "Bump off" Olaf? They're doing a good job if so!

"...would likely set a microdoll aflame!" I think there are a few Bricksetters who'd have no problem with that.

Without knowing the Frozen context, I pegged this as an Advent wreath. The candles could be "lit" at appropriate times: 3rd Sunday of Advent is tomorrow (14th Dec).

It's a tradition in Sweden (and other places according to Wikipedia), indeed on the 13th of December, so well timed. It is called "Lucia" day and involves a procession in which the lead girl (Santa Lucia) wears a circlet with candles on her head. Nowadays, these are usually electric (health and safety, you know ;)

Also tubular. I mean literally; the candles are tubes!

On the plus side, most of Olaf is anti-flammable.

By in Denmark,

I think it’s a Lucia-crown (never mind what the mouse people call it). 1. It came on Lucia day (13th). 2. All four candles are lit and the fourth advent sunday isn’t until the 21st this year (in Denmark Lucia only have 4 candles instead of the 5 she wears in Sweden).

Bonus somewhat related LEGO “news”: The Play Agents in LEGO House did a Lucia procession yesterday with brick build crown and a mix of brick build and electric candles, with extras for kids who wanted to join the procession.
