City Advent Calendar - Day 21

Posted by ,

We have clearly entered the festive final stages of the City Advent Calendar, which should mean we receive a couple of seasonal characters in the last four days.

They are rarely back to back, so the first of them could be today...

Mrs. Claus first appeared as a minifigure in 10245 Santa's Workshop, released only just over a decade ago. The character has become far more common since then, found in multiple Advent Calendars and looking pretty consistent. The white hair element and friendly double-sided head have remained identical between the last three City Advent Calendars, for instance.

However, the torso has been updated this year, now lacking the hip printing. The design of the belt and white fur remains the same though and this component also appears in 41483 Family Christmas Tree Decoration. Unfortunately, the minifigure lacks the printed dress piece supplied with Mrs. Claus in the Christmas tree, which I find very frustrating.

I mentioned this minifigure's nice double-sided head and I want to highlight the expression with closed eyes in particular, which looks delightfully peaceful. The pretzel is a great accessory too, complementing yesterday's food trolley.

Overall - I am happy with Mrs. Claus today, but I really miss her decorated dress.

Wow. Wasn’t aware that salmon wellington was a thing. Individual salmon parcels, yes, but nor salmon wellington. Hope it is well received.

They also added shading to the fur trim on the front of the torso. More interestingly, the CAC Mrs. Clause appears to be gaining weight. In 2023, she looked fit and athletic. Last year, she still had a cinched waist. This year, even that's gone.

No printed skirt is frustrating.

So there have been seven Mrs. Claus minifigs (plus the minidoll). It was cool that they finally did one for 10245, but that and the green BAM version that were patterned off it look better in an indoor setting, which makes them harder to work into a layout. I did pick up one copy of 60381 to get a more outdoorsy version, but ironically never put it in a display. The version from 60436 looked more recognizable, and I got two copies of that CAC just for the minifigs. I don’t like the plain skirt on this one, but I think it’s better than the new print on the skirt from 41843, which makes her look like she has a front bustle. And the current BAM version, with the sweater and flared skirt, looks like a frisky grandma.

The waist doesn't quite matches the torso but the figure shape looks great.

Eating pretzels that size, I'm not surprised.

Santa’s supposed to be fat. There’s no official guidelines for Mrs. Claus, but if she cooks for him, well…

And getting first dibs is a cook's prerogative.

Duty. You have to make sure it tastes right before you serve it.

And sometimes you have to check repeatedly.

By in United Kingdom,

I actually think she looks better without the skirt deco, and an unprinted red skirt brick is far more versatile - and far rarer, having never appeared in a set before! (it was available as a BAM part in 2019 and that's it)
