Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 8

Posted by ,

As we enter the second week of the LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar, the minifigures have been excellent thus far, but the models have seemed mixed in quality.

I hope day eight brings a better mini model...

Buckbeak is a splendid choice to follow Draco Malfoy and one his father will undoubtedly hear about! I am still not entirely convinced by the style of these models, but Buckbeak is somehow quite charming. The colours are appealing and the simplicity of the beak and eyes works rather well, reminiscent of the animals in various Classic sets.

Overall - This is a decent rendition of Buckbeak, but my favourite thing about it is that it follows Draco!

By in Germany,

Buckbeak was his name when he was young. Ever since Hagrid overfed him, he's called Blockbeak.

Bit of a pain to build because it’s so bulky, and there’s not much room inside the bag once you start filling out the third dimension.

I think this has been a good advent calendar so far. The builds might be a little blocky by AFOL standards, but they're great for kids.

Definitely the strongest of these goggle-eyed minibuilds so far

It's Birkbeck, actually. He's simultaneously a Hippogriff and an entire college at the University of London.

My daughter has been having fun trying to moc up ways to make these builds into hanging ornaments.

It very much improves them if treated that way instead of actual toy builds.

I’ve been saying this since Day 1. It’s really a shame they didn’t do it for real. I would suggest looking over all the builds for 41353 and 41482, as you might get some useful ideas on ways to work in a piece that an ornament hook can attach to.

By 41482, he meant 41382.
