Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 16
Posted by CapnRex101,The transport vehicle assembled on days thirteen and fourteen now has its driver, so it is time for another droid in need of transportation.
Let's see whether today delivers...
Day sixteen brings a Treadwell Droid, taking advantage of the droid's red and white panels in A New Hope for a dash of festive colour. The proportions of the droid are quite accurate to the films and I think it improves on past versions, as the small treads match the source material pretty well, other than the gap in the middle.
Treadwell Droids sometimes have many more arms than this, including the version seen outside the Sandcrawler, which inspired this model. On the other hand, I like that you can rotate or raise and lower the connection point for the arms. Also, the binoculars forming the droid's head are effective, so I am satisfied with the design.
Overall - This is my favourite LEGO Treadwell Droid to date and a welcome addition to the calendar.

Don’t have either of the other two sets these guys were in, so I’m very pleased with this droid's inclusion. The build for him looks really good, and I love the clever parts usage with the Aeroblade piece.
Day 16:
0 points (+ 24 from yesterday = 24): Dy - *sigh*
1 (+27 = 28): MC - Once again, the prints make the points.
2 (+37 = 39): Fr - Something for minidolls to hold in their hands. And it's two of them.
3 (+43 = 46): Ct - wants a place in the SWAC - or it escaped to LEGO City.
4 (+45 = 49): HP - Luna is an all-time favourite and she's close to...
5 (+49 = 54): SW - It was a real joy to assemble this one! And a handy, friendly fella he is!
Disney: 3/5p
Friends: Only six parts, but what a great play value and utility! 4/5p
Minecraft: There is a flat jack-o'-lantern here too 3.5/5p
Harry Potter: 3.5/5p
Star Wars: 4.5/5p
I'm moving the arms to the bottom of the droid since they come from the base and not the middle of the neck. That aside, the treadwell really has 7-8 arms, not 3. Is there anything that could be plugged into the three holes in the hex-ring to add three more arms?
A shame Zobo's head wasn't reused for this. It's been used in a surprising amount of sets outside of the Friends-theme, but that will always be Zobo's noggin to me.

There maybe different models from different manufacturers. But in Star Wars, everything is definite and definitely linked to each other.
Something like this every day is what I'd want a droid-themed advent calendar to be. Make some obscure droids instead of wasting days on tool racks and chairs
Weirdest Christmas tree I’ve ever seen
It's sort of a shame there aren't minifig-scale versions of Johnny 5 and WALL-E to put in a crowd scee with this guy and Zobo. Speaking of, @Crux said:

Yeah, besides Friends, https://brickset.com/parts/design-52494 has been used in Disney, Jurassic World, Ninjago, Speed Champions, and Star Wars. Pity they didn't design the piece so the "eyes" would accept 318 bars.
Ugh. I was building this before work, and got to the point where I needed to add the arms to the collar, and figured I’d just fold them up along the “neck” for safety. And they won’t. No gaps behind the bars on the collar, means they have limited range of movement. So I was half convinced I was going to end up breaking one of the robot arms when I mounted the post on the base.
This is great, like it a lot. Variety of droids is important for the calendar.
you placed the roller skates at the wrong corner.

Maybe it'd be too cramped, but you could add a bunch with https://brickset.com/parts/design-4697. https://brickset.com/parts/design-31561 and https://brickset.com/parts/design-25893 would be narrower, but would stick out further.

The second picture's just a view from the side.

Nope, skates roll parallel to the red stripe. They are indeed rotated 90°.

Huh. I guess I just made the same mistake.

I followed the picture on the inside of the door, which also had the skates parallel to the red stripe.
Heck, I even checked the Treadwell from the UCS Sandcrawler, but I'm not obsessive-compulsive! :D
Nice treadwell droid! Plus lot's of extra pieces! Again, a bunch of play value. I hope the advent calendar continues like this.

Knowing the base was 3x3, I just made sure to verify the orientation of the skates before adding the red parts. I looked up pictures, and on the version that has a red/white base, the red stripe does run parallel to the treads, but the base is longer than it is wide. If it was being built on a 2x3 or 3x4 base, it would be easier to keep them straight.
