Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 18

Posted by ,

Entering the final week of the Advent Calendar, I am sure we still have several droids to meet, but there are unused connection points on pieces of scenery too, in need of something to attach.

Let's see which arrives today...

Babu Frik's workshop continues to grow today, as we receive some cans of paint and additional droid parts. I appreciate the splash of colour added by the paint cans and this item of scenery is not bad, though it is far from interesting. Still, it links to other sections of the workshop scene via click hinges and I think it is gradually improving.

Overall - While not particularly exciting, this is one of the better scenery models in the Advent Calendar.

0 points (+ 24 from yesterday (and before yesterday) = 24): Dy - they gave up at some point - hence, no points for you!
1 (+32 = 33): MC - still better than Disney's
2 (+51 = 53): Ct - $100? You have LEGO truck at home (now)!
3 (+56 = 59): SW - We knew this had to pop up eventually. Only one more, and we're done with racks!
4 (+50 = 54): HP - Label and skull make it fun to look at. I want to see it in an HP minifig-environment!
5 (+42 = 47): Fr - Nova had zero competition today.

"...and additional droid parts."

*Part.* Although with the spare arms on the day with the full B-1 Battle Droid, you can assemble a backpackless B-1 at this point.

(I still recommend folding the workshop parts into a square. Trust me, it looks great.)

Disney: Tiny, simple houses, and a pearl 2.5/5p
Friends: Another fun Christmas pyjamas 4.5/5p
Minecraft: A not so pretty, but detailed house, with an underground jack-o'-lantern 3.5/5p
Harry Potter: 3/5p
Star Wars: 3/5p

So that’s a battle droid head in this one, a body and legs of the same in the box from the 9th, I’m guessing it’s arms are going to pop up in the last segment of this workshop

The transparent round tiles are sensor covers (obviously!), hence plural.

If you're going to do a droid workshop, wouldn't it be a cool idea to include enough droid parts across the 24 days to actually build some custom droids? You can only really build one battle droid from the parts in this advent calendar.

Well, it's Lego. You could just dump all 24 days of parts on the floor and a clever enough kid could make one giant hybrid droid with C-3PO's evil head running it.

They could easily be blue and orange transparent cookies and I'm now headcanoning that.

Trans- blue and orange cookies would revolutionize the pastry market, as long as the ingredients are all-natural. Like, blue or green milk.

@TheOtherMike:
So now that the third section is revealed, and an unused hinge is left on one end, I can talk about what I mentioned back on the 2nd, which is that this might be the first AC they’ve produced that has _four_ scenery pieces that clip together, vs building a single scenery piece over four days (as a CAC did once years ago). I’m only aware of them doing linked scenery pieces across two or three days before.

while the individual days haven't been too good bh themselves, all the pieces across the days (and spares) so far offer quite a lot of custom build potential. That's actually quite a step up fir an AC for me.

Threepeeo is keeping it as a reminder of the Battle of Geonosis.

These connectable scenery builds are looking nice together, but judging by the box art, it looks like they’re saving the weakest one for last.

By in Puerto Rico,

I love how it all connects, but this is just one set that LEGO couldn't make for the ST. In a way, this is a manner to run with a Calendar.

Maybe I am becoming less of a curmudgeon as we near Christmas because I am beginning to appreciate this Advent calendar when I see all the various items.
So send one euro to happy dude!

I've never actually heard the song "Shiny Happy People," but that fits the scansion of "Shiny happy people holding hands."

I’d like to see more Advent Calendars follow this one’s lead in the future — building up one big scene across multiple days and whatnot. Maybe a Dexter’s diner themed one, or a podracer, or the Canto Bight casino? Plenty of options.

By in Netherlands,

It's moderately better than Rocket's agonizingly slow turkey-roast, but then, that's not exactly high praise.

Oh my Yoda. This is so lame and disappointing. Especially after a few Days with fantastic Droids and a festive Minifigure.

By in United States,

I like this. The inclusion of the head means we can finally have a more-or-less complete second battle droid from this AC, using the spare arms from the first and the torso and legs from the first crate day, in addition to extending the chunk of scenery.

You mean like how this one is following the lead of the first HPAC?

Given that we've never gotten Dexter or Flo, I support this. I don't think Lego would be willing to make 1-2 new molds for an Advent Calendar (money says Babu will be in future sets, so I bet he's a pre-mold), but I'm happy to be surprised.
