Review: 21583 Steve's Taiga Adventure

Posted by ,

LEGO Minecraft was launched in 2014 and has extensively covered many biomes found in the game. The chilly taiga biome has only featured in a handful of sets, most prominently in 2020's 21162 The Taiga Adventure.

The similarly named 21583 Steve's Taiga Adventure arrives six years later and is also quite small, but looks promising, primarily due to the inclusion of an accurate fox head mold! Despite its modest size, this set seems like a nice start to the first wave of 2026 sets.

Summary

21583 Steve's Taiga Adventure, 79 pieces.
£8.99 / $9.99 / €9.99 | 11.4p / 12.6c / 12.6c per piece.

A great pocket money playset for fans, but nothing essential

  • New fox, bunny and chest
  • Cheap way to get an updated Steve
  • Can't go wrong with more Creepers!
  • Good scenery for a display
  • Not very unique or exciting

The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author.

Minifigures

Steve has appeared in dozens of sets over the past decade, but mostly with a light skin complexion that isn't really accurate to the game. That changed in 2025, with a nougat minifigure appearing in a few sets. That version appears here, making this set the most affordable way to acquire him so far. He looks great, though the head printing on my copy is noticeably a little off. The player character is equipped with a trusty diamond sword.

A lone Creeper is included to antagonize Steve, with no difference from prior appearances of the hostile mob. That is not an issue for me, as you can never have too many Creepers!

A new fox debuts here, which is very welcome. The prior variant used a head mold originally intended for cats and ocelots, which didn't look quite right. This mold is a major improvement, perfectly replicating the game's design.

The new head mold features an anti-stud that fits right onto the body, as seen below.

A second animal is also provided: the baby bunny. This is the first instance of a white one; a dark tan version appeared in 21144 The Farm Cottage and 21181 The Rabbit Ranch. Not much to say about it, but it is adorable...

The Completed Model

The main model of the set is a bit of scenery. I like the combination of greens, the white snow and the grey stone. The medium blue ice block also provides some extra variety in color.

A spruce tree takes up a decent chunk of the piece count. This makes sense for the taiga biome, of course, and it looks reasonable, with a familiar LEGO Minecraft tree design.

Common too is the hidden catapult which, as you would expect, simulates a TNT explosion! Comparable functions have been in previous sets and never get old for me.

From the back, you can see the new chest, which has been a long time coming. Chests in the game are most frequently a single block, so the 2x2 dimensions here make more sense than the 2x4 double chest used since the theme's inception. I am surprised that it took this long, but it was well worth the wait.

It seems Steve has been mining for diamonds, which explains the diamond sword he is wielding! If the mischievous Creeper gets in the way, though, his precious stash may be lost...

Overall

This is a superb little playset, and one I don't have many complaints about - it's perfect for both kids and adults on a budget. Including a new fox, bunny and chest certainly helps!

Sure, Steve and the Creeper are a little generic, but it is nice to have an easy way to get both of them together, especially with this Steve being a newer variant. The taiga terrain is minimal, but a good start to a LEGO Minecraft display or addition to an existing one.

Larger sets are more exciting, but the contents here are appealing and the price of £8.99, $9.99 or €9.99 represents fair value, so I have no hesitations in recommending this set.

Look out, Steve!

Nice little review, thanks.
I haven’t come across that 2x2 container w lid holding Steve’s diamonds. Anyone have the part name/id, or any other occurrence of the part?

That container is brand new, it will make its debut in quite a few of the 2026 Minecraft sets. It’s supposed to represent the single chests from Minecraft which previously we only had double chests, in the Lego sets.

"Not much to say about it, but it is adorable.." Adorable? That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on! Look, that rabbit's got a vicious streak a mile wide! It's a killer!

This is nicely loaded up for the price range. And the catapult feature! That alone can be plenty of fun.

Nice review of a nice little Minecraft set!
I particularly like the new fox head mold and the new single chest parts!

And if we also take the other versions of taiga biome into account (Old Growth Taiga and Snowy Taiga¹):
"However, the taiga biome has only featured in the tiny 21162 The Taiga Adventure from 2020, until now."

(A decent or smaller part of) a taiga biome has been featured in the following minifigure scale sets (in order of appearance):
*in 2017 in 21137 The Mountain Cave
*in 2018 in 21142 The Polar Igloo
*in 2020 in 21162 The Taiga Adventure (which you mentioned ;-)
And really tiny bits of taiga can be found in the following sets, at least IMO (but I could be confused, please correct me when I'm wrong):
*in 2015 in 21120 The Snow Hideout
*in 2022 in 21178 The Fox Lodge
*in 2023 in 21243 The Frozen Peaks
*in 2025 in 21277 The Pickaxe Mine

As a 50+ veteran (survival mode only) player of Minecraft Bedrock (yes, never grow up!), the 2026 line-up of LEGO MC sets is going to take my money for sure!

By in United States,

This isn't the first Minecraft set to contain a baby bunny, 21144 The Farm Cottage contained one as well.

Thanks for the corrections, guys! I love Minecraft, but I'm definitely not an expert. :-) I'll have to tag those sets as being taiga biomes in the database.

That's not a taiga, that's a fox.

My gosh, how long has it been since we had a part using *that* hinge system?

Both are orange and white, so close enough!

@TheBrickPal, given how the Creeper minifig is put together, and given that the main body part has never been printed, it'd probably be better to show a side photo instead of a rear photo if you can only show one of those. That will give a better look at the actual shape of the fig, plus if Lego ever prints the side tiles, they'd show up in the side photo.

You can both be adorable and a killer. I know from experience.

As a veteran (Mostly survival) 1.8.9 java (and dungeons) player, and as someone who loved the old minceraft sets, the 2026 line-up of sets is a bit... odd(in a bad way)

Funny I think this is THIRD YEAR of zero bad minecraft sets.
All of them have solid value for what you get.
